THE NBA WELCOMES A NEW ENTERTAINMENT OPTION TO
E-news of the NuLu Business Association Issue #17 │ September 2016 BUSINESS ASSOCIATION THE NBA WELCOMES A NEW ENTERTAINMENT OPTION TO NULU BOARD OF DIRECTORS President Gill Holland Vice President Rick Murphy Secretary Karyn Page Treasurer Bud Simmons INTRO BY RICK MURPHY The NBA welcomes a new entertainment option to NuLu. Our NuLu neighborhood offers residents and visitors a wide variety of great food, shopping and entertainment options. A brand new form of entertainment is now being offered that may interest and possibly thrill participants. Jacob and Jenny Floyd, local paranormal investigators, have been writing about and conducting historical and haunted tours in other parts of the Louisville area. Now they are bringing their interest in history and the paranormal to NuLu. Continue reading to learn more. THE NULU HISTORY AND HAUNTS TOUR ARTICLE BY JACOB FLOYD Ever wonder about some of the old buildings as you walk up and down the bustling streets of the ever-growing NuLu district? Ever try to imagine what they looked like in the 1800s when East Market was flourishing with industry and entertainment? If the walls within the structures could tell stories, I imagine their vibrant narratives would serve as enthralling treats for any history aficionado. Not to be considered archaic, but stylish in their enduring manner, the establishments lining the NuLu corridor certainly derive character from their endurance and intrigue from their longevity; and, such a time spent overlooking one of Louisville's oldest streets would undoubtedly make for a series of fascinating tales. But, buildings can't tell stories. Or can they? Maybe the walls can't talk, but the past just might be able to. It seems a few of these constructs may just be itching to let us in on some of their secrets. After already forming the Shepherdsville History and Haunts Tour, we came to these streets to find out what sort of spirit--or spirits--may still be lingering. After talking to some local business owners, we were put on to some leads that enabled us to sweep together a few ghostly tales to throw in with the historic accounts of NuLu's eclectic past. From a street-walking specter to a nice old ghost hanging out in a local bar, take an evening stroll with us and we'll tell you a few of the reasons NuLu is staying spooky after all these years. Tours begin on the corner of East Market and South Hancock at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. It is only $10 per person and we can only accept cash. Please call for reservations or message us on Facebook at https:// www.facebook.com/eastmarkettour. ▪ Board Members Gordon Brown, Phil Dearner, Joyce Garner, Scott Howe, Mike Maloney, Bill Marzian, Rebecca Matheny, Trudy Miller, Jeff Rawlings, Chuck Swanson, Janet Vaughn Newsletter Editor Autumn Lucas Meetings are held in the Parish Hall of St. John United Church of Christ on the 2nd Wednesday of every month (629 East Market Street) WANT TO JOIN THE NULU BUSINESS ASSOCIATION? $100 Businesses │ $50 Non-Profit Organizations │ $25 Individuals/Resident For more information, please contact Phil Dearner: [email protected] LINKS FACEBOOK NULU WEBSITE TWITTER INSTAGRAM FIRST FRIDAY HOP NULU ART PROJECT STREETSCAPE PLANS GAME NIGHT AT GOODWOOD Event: Game night at Goodwood with Know thy Neighbor and Quickie! on the Republic Bank First Friday Hop When: Friday September, 2nd from 7-11:00 p.m. Where: At Goodwood Brewing Company in NuLu Join us at Goodwood for some great brews and a chance to play a few rounds of the best adult card games Louisville has to offer: Know Thy Neighbor and Quickie!
