PERFORMING ARTS
THE POWER TO TRANSFORM LIVES
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 Performing Arts Season at the Weidner Center for
the Performing Arts.
This season expands upon the Weidner’s success as a preeminent destination for
the best of Broadway, family fare and comedy. The musical menu includes ‘Midtown,’
Motown, Mannheim Steamroller and more. From Dracula to Celtic
Woman, from Green Bay’s own Doctors in Recital to the
Peking Acrobats, it is a varied, crowd-pleasing lineup.
At UW-Green Bay, we are deeply proud of the Weidner
Center’s ability to extend the University’s educational
mission and place the transformative power of live
performance within easy reach of every corner of this
region. There can be no real understanding of the
human experience without deep and abiding
appreciation for art, music and theatre. In elevating
the arts, we elevate our own capacity for innovation,
creativity and problem solving.
We are excited to present this attractive,
entertainment- and education-rich
season, and we look forward to seeing
you at the Weidner Center throughout
the coming year.
Enjoy!

Before Twilight and True Blood,
only one vampire commanded
“the children of the night.” In this
bloodthirsty tale of unholy terror,
Count Dracula slips into Victorian
London with a cargo of his native
Transylvanian soil – so he can rest
between victims. The city seems
helpless against his frightful power,
and only one man, Dr. Van Helsing,
can stop the carnage. But to do
this, he must uncover the vampire’s
lair and pierce his heart with a
wooden stake.

Enter the world of Pedal Punk, a
Steampunk-inspired place where
cycling is the way to escape the
technology-obsessed society. In
Pedal Punk we experience the
excitement, artistry and thrill that
occurs when a wacky bike shop
mechanic interacts with cyclists
and bikes. He repairs more than
broken pieces, he creates wondrous
machines and inspires the cyclist in
all of us to become a Pedal Punk.
Creative Director Chris Lashua
spent most of his career on a BMX
bike or inside a German Wheel.
His fascination with bicycles
and passion for cycling are
evidenced in this new production.
The synergy between man and
machine, the hallmark of Cirque
Mechanics, is exposed in a
magnificent way in Pedal Punk. It is that synergy that The New
York Times called “exceptional,
evocative, eye-catching and
grossly entertaining…in a
word, excellent.”

This beloved American holiday classic comes to
captivating life as a live 1940’s radio broadcast.
With the help of an ensemble that brings a few
dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic
George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his
life one fateful Christmas Eve. Set in New York City’s
Studio A at WBFR Radio on Christmas Eve, 1946,
you will become members of a studio audience for
a live radio broadcast, complete with live music,
commercials and sound effects in the tradition of
the period.
