CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE GHOSTBUSTERS HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE Dwayne Johnson was once a bullied geek, but he’s now a lethal CIA agent. Home for his high school reunion, he enlists former “big man on campus” Kevin Hart, who’s now an accountant, on his current mission. Before the sedate numbers guy knows it his unpredictable new friend drags him through an increasingly dangerous world of shootouts, doublecrosses and espionage that could easily see them both killed. Four of the funniest chicks around – Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones - are here to bust ghosts, 30 years after the original team first saved New York from all manner of spectral shenanigans. Paranormal activity is on the rise once again, so a Columbia University academic, her ghost-chasing friend, the friend’s business partner and a transit employee join forces to save the great metropolis – again! Ricky, a rebellious city foster kid raised on hip-hop, gets a new start in the New Zealand countryside. He soon finds himself at home with Aunt Bella, Uncle Hec (Sam Neill) and a dog named Tupac. Over to more family-friendly fare, two videogames go to the movies this month with The Angry Birds Movie and everybody’s favourite Lombax and robot duo in Ratchet & Clank. TV time sees more Arrow, The Flash and the arrival of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Then The Walking Dead shamble in, so maybe you’d Better Call Saul, or even the guys from Supernatural?! We’ve all this and ever so much more, so spring into your Video Ezy this month and be entertained! BROOKLYN TERM LIFE THE TRUST With employment options scarce in 1950s Ireland, Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) heads to America hoping to find a life with more prospects and opportunities. She settles in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of New York, home to many Irish immigrants, where she meets Tony (Emory Cohen), who falls for her at first sight. But when a tragedy happens back home in Ireland, Eilis returns to her homeland carrying a secret with her... Nick (Vince Vaughn) discovers that planning bank heists is risky when he’s framed for the death of his latest client, leaving him on the run from a cartel kingpin. His subsequent decision to swipe up his estranged daughter Carrie (Hailee Steinfeld) to protect her may be questionable. However, Nick’s thinking ahead and takes out life insurance, before trying to live long enough for it to be cashed in by his little angel... Many get bored with their jobs and look for an out. But when you’re a Vegas cop, and the way out involves breaking the very laws that you swore to uphold, it’s moral quandary time. Not that Lieutenant Jim Stone (Nic Cage) cares about the latter. He comes across a dodgy bail receipt and subsequently discovers a drug dealer with a very large vault secreted inside an industrial freezer. So begins a heist plot that unravels from the very get-go... GEM 2 A ‘Hidden Gem’ is a treasure that you may not have known was right under your nose. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR WARCRAFT: THE BEGINNING RENT OR BUY* August 31 • DIRECTORS Anthony Russo, Joe Russo • STARS Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson GENRE Action/Sci-Fi • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Avengers: Batman v Superman: Age of Ultron Dawn of Justice RENT OR BUY* September 22 • DIRECTOR Duncan Jones • STARS Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster GENRE Fantasy/Action • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King The two titans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe go head-to-head in this latest from the Russo brothers, who previously helmed the espionage thriller-like Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Captain America: Civil War conforms more to the big budget superhero extravaganza mould than the second instalment and, arguably, is all the better for it. After a mission in the country of Wakanda goes awry, government forces slap sanctions upon the actions of superheroes. They find unlikely support from Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), who feels that the collateral damage of their battles with villainous forces has reached unacceptable levels. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), still searching for his missing former friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) after he was revealed as the Winter Soldier, disagrees with Tony about the proposed limitations to be placed upon the Avengers, which sends him on an ideals-driven collision course with one of his closest allies... Featuring high octane action sequences, plus the long-awaited MCU debut of one of Marvel’s mainstays in Spider-Man, Captain America: Civil War is quite possibly the most accomplished superhero film yet, with the ramifications from the fallout of this one’s events promising to be felt throughout the rest of the third phase of Marvel movies. Sean The questionable track record that movies based on videogames have is the stuff of legends, and breaking that curse is no easy task when audiences have been numbed over the years by the likes of Super Mario Brothers and Street Fighter. But this first instalment in what’s planned to be a series of movies based on the Warcraft universe sets out to change that perception right from the get-go. While most everybody is familiar with the decade-old, gigantic online game World of Warcraft, this movie draws its story from earlier times, the very beginning of the Warcraft story which played out in the 1994 game of the same name. The various Orc clans of the planet Draenor bond together as the Horde, desperate to escape their dying planet. With the aid of the pithily evil warlock Gul’dan, they travel through a portal to Medieval England-like Azeroth, with plans to start anew. The citizens of Azeroth have to fend off an invasion of terrifying ferocity... Beautifully rendered visually with some very familiar elements from World of Warcraft realised in incredible detail, Warcraft: The Beginning benefits from director Duncan Jones’ undeniable skill as a filmmaker. It’s a fantasy epic, not a videogame movie, and is all the better for it. Anthony “I know we’re not perfect, but the safest hands are still our own.” - Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) “Our hope is destroyed, there is nothing to go back to. Is war the only answer?” - Durotan (Toby Kebbell) “ 4 * If nominated title is unavailable for rent. * See back for conditions ” “ * See back for conditions ” 5 MOVIES *Not final artwork MOVIES TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS RENT OR BUY* September 15 • DIRECTOR Dave Green • STARS Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell GENRE Action/Adventure • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Transformers: Age of Extinction Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael return to save the world from evil once again, and this time they’re going to need some help to defeat an even more powerful and villainous foe. One year after defeating the evil ninja Shredder, the turtles remain beneath the sewers, too cautious to reveal themselves to the world. But after Shredder escapes from prison and joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world, it becomes clear that they won’t be able to stay in the sewers eating pizza forever. With a newcomer ally in the form of the hockey stickwielding Casey Jones (Stephen Amell, TV’s Arrow), it seems that nothing will stop the Turtles in their quest to save the day – well, until an even more menacing threat appears, making Shredder and company seem like nothing in comparison... Break out the slices for this bodacious action flick, dudes and dudettes! Scott * If nominated title is unavailable for rent. NOW YOU SEE ME ME:2THE SECOND ACT RENT OR BUY* September 14 • DIRECTOR Jon M Chu • STARS Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson GENRE Action/Adventure • RATING M CTC • IF • IF YOU YOU LIKED LIKED Ocean’s Ocean’s 1111 Rock star magic types The Four Horsemen are bored. It’s over a year since their last big thing, and they’re in hiding awaiting further orders. Henley even got so fed up that she left! But the Horsemen are soon a quartet again, with Lula May (Lizzy Caplan, The Interview) joining Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg, American Ultra), Merritt (Woody Harrelson, Seven Psychopaths) and Jack (Dave Franco, Unfinished Business), who soon find themselves with a new gig. They’re tasked with exposing a shonky businessman named Owen Case (Ben Lamb, Divergent) whose new software secretly mines personal user data. The Horsemen manage to infiltrate the software’s launch party, but somebody else hijacks proceedings, leading our four to make a hasty escape. Well, that was the plan, but a spot of kidnapping sees them land in Macau, to have a meeting with another tech type in Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe, Victor Frankenstein). It seems the dodgy software is hidden under a local casino, and Mabry wants the Horsemen to get it for him... Come for the ace tricks, but stay for the Ocean’s-influenced heist story – with a bit of a revenge tale thrown in to boot. In Now You See Me Me:2The a Second Act, magical ensemble a magical cast ensemble pulls another castthrilling pulls another adventure thrilling out of adventure their hats. outAmy of their hats. This second movie in the Mythica series shows our would-be hero Marek (Melanie Stone) not only fighting Szorlok, but also herself as she’s pulled closer to the powerful yet corrupting perils of dark necromancy magic. This makes things difficult when trying to stop Szorlok from getting his hands on the Darkspore... Look out for Kevin Sorbo (Hercules of the epic ’90s TV series) continuing as Marek’s one part wise and two parts kickass sorcerer mentor. A winner for all fantasy fans, this series shows no signs of stopping with two more movies on the way! Conrad * See back for conditions 7 MOVIES MOVIES WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT RENT OR BUY* September 1 • DIRECTORS Glenn Ficarra, John Requa • STARS Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman GENRE Dramedy/Biography • RATING MA15+ • IF YOU LIKED Our Brand Is Crisis DVD FOR ONLY Sometimes the best way to shake up your life is to do something that you wouldn’t normally do. For some that might be as simple as taking a different way home, but back in the early 2000s TV journo Kim Baker (Tina Fey, This Is Where I Leave You) decides upon an altogether more extreme course of action, accepting a gig as a war correspondent in Afghanistan. Hey, it’s only for three months, how bad could it be? After making a couple of friends she settles into the role well, going that extra mile to source incredible, very human coverage. Soon that three months turns to several years, Kim’s tour dragging on seemingly endlessly – much like the war... If you’re expecting 30 Rock Does Afghanistan then you’re on the wrong track, as the comedy in WTF is very much of the everyday variety, like we saw glimpses of in Good Morning Vietnam and Rock the Kasbah. But if you crave captivating, relatable human drama then you’re right on track. Amy $4.95# *Not final artwork SSP EA BUY LETHAL WEAPON WHEN YOU RENT OR BUY THE NICE GUYS THE NICE GUYS RENT OR BUY* August 31 • DIRECTOR Shane Black • STARS Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice GENRE Action/Comedy • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Kiss Kiss Bang Bang It’s hard to argue that Lethal Weapon wasn’t ground zero for the modern day buddy cop action flick template. That was created by a guy named Shane Black, who’s scarcely been prolific since, although he did deliver us the fab Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. He may not pump them out like many Hollywood types, but when he does come up with something new it’s worth taking notice. The Nice Guys is no exception. Set in a wonderfully authentic 1977, it’s the tale of an enforcer and a private eye (American Gangster’s Russell Crowe and Drive’s Ryan Gosling, respectively), the latter’s young daughter, a porn star, a car crash, a short-sighted aunt, a missing girl, a blue-faced thug and his mate, a dodgy movie director, a projectionist, smog protestors and a relentless hitman. The result? A funny, thrilling Shane Black buddy movie with onscreen chemistry to rival Lethal Weapon – plus possibly the greatest cinematic squeal ever... Amy MONEY MONSTER RENT OR BUY* September 1 • DIRECTOR Jodie Foster • STARS George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell GENRE Crime/Thriller • RATING M • IF YOU LIKED The Wolf of Wall Street As they’re both set within the financial world, it would be easy to compare director Jodie Foster’s Money Monster to The Big Short. Yet while both movies focus on the US monetary market, an epic economic crash and some incredibly big losses, that’s where the similarities end. While The Big Short was more of a history lesson, Foster’s movie takes a different tack, shaping up as more of a dramatic thriller – and boy is it enjoyable! George Clooney (Gravity) plays Lee Gates, a charismatic Wall Street guru and the host of financial TV show Money Monster. As Lee goes live to air, with producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts, Secret in Their Eyes) in his ear, disgruntled investor Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell, Unbroken) crashes the set toting a gun and explosives, taking Lee and the crew hostage. Broadcasting across the globe, Kyle tells Lee and millions of viewers that he lost his entire life savings on an investment that went belly up. Will everybody survive this? Srinivasa (Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire) is living in pre-World War I India and using his natural intelligence to teach himself complex mathematics. But when it becomes clear that he needs additional support to further his learning progress, he seeks admittance to Cambridge University in England, where the curious professor GH Hardy (Jeremy Irons, Night Train to Lisbon) personally vouches for his entry. Upon arrival, Srinivasa is an amazement to his professors, but international tensions brought about by the war soon stir unpleasant prejudices which threaten his research... This is a top biopic. Scott Susan Sarandon (Tammy) is brilliant in her role as Marnie, a newly widowed woman who relocates to LA to be closer to her daughter, Lori (Rose Byrne, Bridesmaids). A lonely Marnie begins to drive Lori crazy by bombarding her with constant phone calls, texts and unexpected visits. But when Lori travels to New York for work, Marnie is forced to meet new people, including new love interest Zipper, (JK Simmons, Whiplash)... The Meddler is a journey of love, loss, grief and finding life again, and a highly enjoyable one at that. It’s hard to believe that such an entertaining, well-written and well-acted movie managed to get away with minimum fanfare. Despite flying under the radar we have nothing but praise for The Meddler. Krysten ALSO OUT THIS MONTH... *Not final artwork Emilia Clarke (TV’s Game of Thrones) and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games series) are wonderful in this movie adaptation of Jojo Moyes book about a small town girl who forms an unlikely bond with the man she’s taking care of. Clarke plays Louisa ‘Lou’ Clark, a quirky and creative 26-year-old who lives in an antiquated town in the English countryside. With no clear goals or direction, Lou goes from one job to the next in order to help her family make ends meet. Her chirpy personality is challenged, however, when she’s presented with a new job. The wandering young woman finds herself caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a rich young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically as a result. No longer the gung-ho adventurer he once was, the bitter man has given up on life. Well, until his new caregiver gives him a reason to start living again... In this slow-burning drama, Matthew McConaughey stars as Arthur Brennan, a depressed man driven to Japan’s mysterious Aokigahara Forest to contemplate life and death. After entering the forest Arthur soon loses his way and eventually encounters Takumi, a Japanese man who is similarly lost. Unable to leave Takumi behind, Arthur invests his remaining energy into returning the man safely outside the forest. The two men then embark on a journey of reflection and survival, which helps an unsuspecting Arthur reconnect with his life at home... It’s the tale of a kitten – a very, very cute kitten - that comes to the door of Rell (Peele) one day, and changes his life. Then Keanu’s catnapped, triggering a riotous action caper as Rell and super-straight cousin Clarence (Key) brave the criminal underworld of Cheddar (Method Man, Trainwreck) to rescue the little fluffy ball of ultra-cuteness. Luckily our pair are remarkably resourceful... LOL funny and also likely to change your world view of Mr George Michael forever, Keanu is most excellent (dudes!) Amy MARAUDERS RENT OR BUY* September 14 • DIRECTOR Steven C Miller • STARS Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni, Dave Bautista GENRE Action/Thriller • RATING MA15+ • IF YOU LIKED Triple 9 Hidden GEM If you think it rains too often where you are, be thankful that you don’t live in Cincinnati. Judging by this slick action/thriller the rain there never seems to stop! It’s worth quickly getting over this omnipresent precipitation though, for the story here is many-layered. Masked bandits storm a bank branch. They’re an organised lot, using pre-recorded messages rather than risking their voices being identified. They’re in, they rob, they execute a guard and they’re out. Needless to say, bank boss Jeffrey Hubert (Bruce Willis, also in this month’s Precious Cargo) isn’t happy, especially as he’s keeping secrets for powerful types in his vaults. As if to reinforce Hubert’s fears, when the FBI are called in they soon realise that this job was about more than money... Continuing their march towards becoming A-listers, Christopher Meloni, Dave Bautista and Adrian Grenier give their all to their roles as FBI guys here, deducing their way to a shocking conclusion. Amy Hidden GEM PRECIOUS CARGO RENT OR BUY* September 7 • DIRECTOR Max Adams • STARS Bruce Willis, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Claire Forlani GENRE Action/Crime • RATING MA15+ • IF YOU LIKED Setup It’s an ’80s TV star face off as Moonlighting’s Bruce Willis goes up against Saved by the Bell alum Mark-Paul Gosselaar in this action-packed underworld tale. Crime boss Eddie (Willis) is out to find the seductive thief Karen (Claire Forlani, Antitrust) who failed him. In order to win back her former employer’s trust, Karen employs her ex-lover and top thief Jack (Gosselaar) to steal a horde of precious gems. But when the job goes down all trust goes out the window and Jack, Karen and Eddie find themselves staring each other down in a deadly Reservoir Dogs-style standoff... We love him as the heroic John McClane, but Bruce Willis always does a great villain – and his turn here is no exception. Clint Hidden CRIMINAL RENT OR BUY* August 31 • DIRECTOR Ariel Vromen • STARS Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot GENRE Action/Crime • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Face/Off Ryan Reynolds swaps bodies (well, kind of) with Kevin Costner in the enthralling Criminal. Costner (The Guardian) stars as the crooked Jericho Stewart, a man with brain damage that makes it impossible for him to feel emotions or distinguish right from wrong. Reynolds (Deadpool) stars as Bill Pope, a CIA agent who dies before revealing where he hid a computer hacker. A CIA station chief (Gary Oldman, Paranoia) comes up with the idea of grafting Pope’s brainwaves onto Jericho’s brain, so that they can utilise the info within the dead man’s mind. But after the surgery is done, Jericho escapes custody and starts racing around London trying to complete Pope’s last mission... In addition to Reynolds, Costner and Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones is also here, playing the neuroscientist who is behind the brain grafting, while Batman v Superman’s Wonder Woman Gal Gadot plays Pope’s wife. For a good time, call Criminal! Clint 12 * See back for conditions *Not final artwork *Not final artwork GEM KILL COMMAND RENT OR BUY* September 7 • DIRECTOR Steven Gomez • STARS Vanessa Kirby, Thure Lindhardt, David Ajala GENRE Sci-Fi/Action • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED The Terminator Set in the near future, where technology rules all, Kill Command focuses on a group of soldiers, led by Captain Bukes (Thure Lindhardt, Into the Wild), who are dropped off on a remote island for what’s supposed to be a fairly routine training exercise. It’s immediately evident that things aren’t what they seem though when, out of nowhere, a pack of killer robots emerges, turning on Bukes and his team. The routine training exercise has now turned into a battle for survival. Will anybody be left standing at the end of the day? One of the most dazzling looking and well plotted science fiction movies in recent memory, Kill Command is highly reminiscent of early James Cameron – in particular 1984’s The Terminator. Clint * See back for conditions 13 MOVIES *Not final artwork MOVIES MY MOTHER RENT OR BUY* September 15 • DIRECTOR Aaron Kaufman • STARS Pierce Brosnan, Justin Chatwin, Danny Masterson GENRE Thriller • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Flatliners RENT* September 7 • DIRECTOR Nanni Moretti • STARS Margherita Buy, John Turturro, Giulia Lazzarini GENRE Drama • LANGUAGE Italian, French • RATING M • IF YOU LIKED For Your Consideration See Pierce Brosnan as you’ve never seen him before in this unique thriller about a charismatic nightclub owner peddling a designer drug that can’t be taken more than once. Urge sees four friends from New York headed to a tropical island for a break. Brosnan’s club owner introduces them to a mysterious new drug called Urge, which makes users incapable of controlling their impulses. Though the group are warned that they can only take it once, most of them ignore this and begin taking it again and again... Joining Brosnan is a terrific line-up of young actors including Danny Masterson (TV’s That ‘70s Show), Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect 2) and Justin Chatwin (TV’s Shameless). Clint An amazing clash between Margherita Buy and John Turturro makes this movie a joy from start to end. A film about making a film, My Mother (aka Mia Madre) chronicles the chaotic production of a movie bearing the title We Are Here. It tells of factory workers staging a sit-in to protest against a new owner’s planned layoffs, but it’s slowly driving director Margherita (Buy, His Secret Life) mad. Maybe if her personal life wasn’t in such tatters – she’s dealing with a break-up, a sick mum and her brother Giovanni, who’s annoyed at his sister for putting her work commitments before her gravely ill mother Margherita could more readily handle the production, and her spoilt American actor (Turturro, Rio, I Love You)? Clint *Not final artwork URGE THE SWEENEY: PARIS RENT* September 22 • DIRECTOR Roel Reiné • STARS Scott Adkins, Robert Knepper, Rhona Mitra GENRE Action/Thriller • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Close Range RENT* September 14 • DIRECTOR Benjamin Rocher • STARS Jean Reno, Alban Lenoir, Caterina Murino GENRE Action/Crime • LANGUAGE French, English • RATING MA15+ • IF YOU LIKED Heat This latest action movie from Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2) won’t disappoint you, oh no! With lots of incredible fight scenes and six pack abs, you might have to forfeit that second cuppa, because you won’t want to leave your couch. Wes ‘The Jailor’ Baylor is a disgraced mixed martial arts fighter who accepts a job offer, a one-off fight in Myanmar for a one million dollar prize. He ends up in Southeast Asia ready for the fight, only to find out that his ring is a hundred square miles of jungle. He’s forced into becoming the target of a human hunt, and to survive he needs to outsmart the heavily-armed group that's paid money in order to kill him. But as the fight continues, the hunters might just become the hunted... Emilia The terrific Jean Reno (The Professional) leads this action-packed remake of 2012 British crime flick The Sweeney. Like Nick Love’s movie – which was a reboot of the 1970’s TV show that starred John Thaw and Dennis Waterman - The Sweeney: Paris focuses on two cops, but this time operating out of the City of Light. Reno and Alban Lenoir are veteran copper Serge and wet-around-the-ears sidekick Cartier. Sick of middle-management politics, Serge decides to take matters into his own hands by punishing criminals himself. When an execution at a jewellers leads to a mass shootout, and Serge’s squad faces being dispersed, it’s up to Cartier to step up... Reno puts in an amazing performance in this action-drenched thrill ride. Clint RAMPAGE: PRESIDENT DOWN ATTACK ON TITAN PART 1 & 2 RENT* September 21 • DIRECTOR Uwe Boll • STARS Brendan Fletcher, Steve Baran, Ryan McDonell GENRE Action/Thriller • RATING MA15+ • IF YOU LIKED Assault on Wall Street RENT* September 7 • DIRECTOR Shinji Higuchi • STARS Haruma Miura, Hiroki Hasegawa, Kanata Hongô GENRE Action/Fantasy • LANGUAGE Japanese • RATING CTC • IF YOU LIKED Battle Royale German filmmaker Uwe Boll has amassed an intriguing body of work. Specialising in videogame adaptations like Far Cry, Postal and In the Name of the King (based on Dungeon Siege), he’s also produced original tales such as the unadulterated malevolence of the Rampage movies. This third one sees the return of vigilante Bill Williamson (Brendan Fletcher, The Revenant). With his attempts at destroying the system in Rampage: Capital Punishment having failed to go off as he’d hoped, he’s back with more murderous rage. He’s in Washington DC again, but the ante is upped as Williamson takes out the US President, initiating nationwide instability... Boll says this will be his last movie. He’s certainly going out with a bang... Amy Based upon the hit manga and anime series, these two live action Attack on Titan movies boast intense action and a fresh take on the themes seen in the source material. After the sudden arrival of voracious gigantic beings known as the Titans, humanity is plunged into chaos as it struggles to contend with the towering invaders. 100 years after their initial appearance, the threat of the Titans has been mitigated somewhat by giant barriers that protect the last human survivors. Childhood friends Eren and Mikasa reside in the relative safety of the gated community until a Titan manages to break through the wall, forcing them to take one last stand with the fate of humanity itself hanging in the balance. This season zips back and forth between Earth 1 – the universe in which The Flash is primarily set - and Earth 2, which features alternate versions of the characters we know and love, as well as some who we’re not so fond of. An evil speedster named Zoom has broken through into our world, with plans to steal The Flash’s speed – and destroy mankind! But with the help of visiting Earth 2 hero Jay Garrick, and the real Dr Harrison Wells (not the fake one who terrorised the crew in season one), the team of Star Labs pool their resources, determined to send the speedy scoundrel back from whence he came. He’s causing chaos for the newly-engaged Oliver and Felicity, who were preparing to cut down on their crime-fighting and look to a more relaxed future. Darhk isn’t just out to cause chaos for the city, however, for he’s also targeting Oliver and his alter-ego Green Arrow, with his actions ultimately resulting in a tragic loss for the good guys. Meanwhile, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman, Torchwood) settles into his new role at the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra's al Ghul, and Constantine swings by to help Team Arrow topple their latest foe. Finding sanctuary in Alexandria, Rick has been elevated to the position of protector for much of the community, staging missions to lure away hordes of walkers and repelling attacks by hostile survivors known as the Wolves. After walkers manage to overrun the community and kill multiple residents, Rick realises that the entire community needs to band together if they stand any chance of surviving. Seeking out food supplies from another nearby group of survivors located in Hilltop, Rick offers up his services as a mercenary and stages an attack on a compound housing the Saviours, who’ve been extorting the people of Hilltop. However, little does he realise that his actions to help save the Alexandrians will inadvertently place them all at risk as the Saviours’ brutal leader, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Watchmen), seeks out revenge for the attack... Showing no signs of slowing down, The Walking Dead’s sixth season further expands upon the moral decay afflicting the survivors, particularly Rick’s struggle to remain a decent man in an indecent world. Consisting of popular comic stars the Atom, Firestorm, Hawkgirl and more, the Legends of Tomorrow seek to right the wrongs of both the past and future in order to prevent the destruction of time itself. As with any group of superheroes, however, they’re opposed by an equally powerful villain, in this case immortal dictator Vandal Savage, who’s spent millennia trying to take over the world, and who’ll be successful unless the Legends manage to change the future... Despite evidence that linked OJ to a double homicide, celebrity lawyer Johnnie Cochran (Courtney B Vance, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) convinced the jury that police framed OJ because of his race. Of course, both sides of this argument went nuts, sparking riots nationally... Cuba Gooding Jr is incredible as OJ, joined by legal eagles David Schwimmer (Friends) and John Travolta (Pulp Fiction). We see how the whole case was put together despite the tensions, suicide attempt and more controversy than we were ever remotely aware of. Conrad The last time we saw Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy, The Dark Knight) he was preparing himself for his inevitable death. The British Government forced him to carry out a covert mission and he knew that Major Chester Campbell (Sam Neill, The Daughter) would do everything in his power to ensure that Tommy wouldn’t get out alive. We were prepared to say goodbye to our beloved character when he was on his knees ready to meet his maker, only to find out that Mr Churchill decided to spare his life. But, of course, nothing is free... In this season we realise that even though Tommy is a father and husband, and his ideas for the future of the company raised the Shelby family’s social status, the fight is far from over. Emilia Supernatural needs no introduction, now up to its eleventh season and showing no signs of slowing down. Faithful followers will be thrilled to know that much-loved characters return, including the Winchester brothers, for arguably the best season yet. It follows Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), accompanied by their allies, who find themselves fighting the most powerful supernatural force that they’ve ever encountered – and that’s saying something! This season has been highly anticipated by fans, and with an enthralling new threat and compelling storylines you’ll be hooked before you know it. The darkness has arrived and who knows what it will do? Of course there’s only one way to find out! Krysten Blending a gripping story of the supernatural with the chilling backdrop of the brutal Salem witch hunts, this is sure to scratch your horror itch. Set in 17th century Massachusetts, the government of the time is made up of superstitious and hysterical Puritans hell-bent on ridding their lands of evil by hunting and killing socalled witches. One such witch, Mary Sibley, is the most powerful sorceress in Salem, and seeks to advance her agenda while avoiding persecution at the hands of the government. However, matters are complicated when a lost love interest returns, plunging Mary’s plans into turmoil and threatening her grip on the throne... Salem is a horror delight that’s absolutely perfect for binge viewing. After experiencing the first season, however, it quickly dawned that this was more than just another spinoff, as Better Call Saul was brilliant. When we left Saul – aka Jimmy McGill - he’d been offered a gig by law firm Davis & Main. Upon catching up now, he’s decided to turn the offer down and leave the world of law, confounding Kim. The pair still have a blast of a night out however – can Kim change Jimmy’s mind? If she does, of course, there’s Saul’s brother Chuck and his lack of brotherly support to contend with... Even stronger than season one, if you’re after top notch TV then hey, Better Call Saul! Amy The exciting Blindspot focuses on a tattoed young woman who’s completely lost her memory. FBI investigators soon realise that each tattoo on her body contains a clue to crimes that they’ll have to solve in order to progress the case. Jaimie Alexander is ‘Jane Doe’, the young woman kept in FBI protective custody as they investigate her identity and try to decipher the inked messages. Due to her wide variety of combat and language skills, suspicions are that Jane may be a former Navy SEAL, whose identity has been kept secret because of a special operation... Australia’s Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back) plays an FBI agent who’s called into the investigation when his name is mysteriously found tattooed on Jane’s body. Clint He’s one of the most likeable blokes on the planet. He’s hilarious Scotsman Billy Connolly, and it may surprise you to learn that he’s spent almost half of his life in America. Realising that he’d scarcely scratched the surface of what the country has to offer in the places you tend to fly over, Billy decided to rectify matters. This three-part series sees him taking the train from Chicago to New York, a trip which would normally be around 700 miles. Instead, he does it the “wrong way round”, clackity-clacking some 6,000 miles through 26 states. We’re privy to meetings with everybody from cowboys to the homeless and Elvis fans to frog princesses, all met with that uniquely humorous and eminently lovable Billy style. Amy The classic ’80s miniseries is updated courtesy of some of today’s greatest actors and filmmakers. A historical portrait of American slavery that recounts the journey of one family and their will to survive and carry on their legacy despite hardship, Roots comes to life with a new vision that’s inspiring and undeniably entertaining. Malachi Kirby is amazing as Kunta Kinte, a young educated man sold into slavery who challenges his fellow slaves to stand up for their freedom. The all-star cast also includes Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Forest Whittaker, Laurence Fishburne, Anna Paquin and James Purefoy, while the directorial roster includes Aussies Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) and Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm). Loaded with nerd humour and celebrating all things geeky, it turned up just at the right time, as the rise of the internet made the idea of a comedy starring a group of comic-reading, sci-fi-loving science geeks a word-of-mouth hit. Now up to its ninth season, we pick up with Penny trying to come to terms with Leonard’s naïve confession that he’s kissed another girl. Sheldon, meanwhile, is a ball of stress (well, more than usual) after his own relationship is put on hold. The jokes come thick and fast as always − yes, the spark is still here in abundance. Anthony We’ve all played it on our mobiles, our consoles, and maybe even our toasters (OK, we’re being silly there). Yes, Angry Birds has been everywhere for years now, but have any of us ever wondered why the birds are so grumpy? In The Angry Birds Movie we meet Red, Chuck and Bomb before they’d encountered the piggies from the games. All the flightless birds are living happily on their own island, except for our three friends, as for different reasons they aren’t super popular. But when mysterious green piggies visit that seem friendly at first but turn out to be rather nasty, it’s these three birds who turn into heroes to save Bird Island – and its future population - from their greedy invaders. Yes, it’s Red, Chuck and Bomb time, and it rocks! Amy One of the coolest duos in videogames history jump from our PlayStations to our movie players (well, unless you watch it on your PlayStation!) in this tale of the origins of Ratchet and Clank. As you probably know, Ratchet is a Lombax, and one who’s super-keen to join Captain Qwark’s peacekeeping forces, the Galactic Rangers. When Qwark visits Ratchet’s home planet Veldin our furry friend thinks that he’s in with a shot, but he’s turned down. Meanwhile, super-clever robot Clank escapes from a warbot factory on planet Quartu, hoping to warn the Rangers of evil Chairman Drek’s plans to destroy entire planets. This leads him to Veldin, where he meets Ratchet, they team up and then set out to save the universe − Qwark or not. Go team!
