College Now
College Now
Most CUNY schools have free, pre-college programs in a variety of courses. This is a great way to earn free college credit and
get experience with college-level learning. Check out all the courses available on the website, then see the specific program
requirements for each school.
Students must have a 75+ on the ELA Regents to be eligible and a cumulative GPA of 2.0+ or 2.5+, depending on which school
you apply.
College Now courses are available in the Summer (July – August), Fall (August – December), and Spring (January – May) so
there are many opportunities for students to participate in these courses and earn credit.

College Focus Summer Program – College Now
The College Focus Summer Program is designed primarily to help high school students avoid remedial coursework
at the CUNY level and qualify for admission to a four-year CUNY college. Students participate in pre-and postassessment, and complete 60-hour course over five weeks.

Free, pre-college courses about digital design, debate, or social justice. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA
above a 2.0, and can earn college credit through participation.

Free programs at Lehman College where students earn three or more college credits. Previous courses have
included media studies, theatre, science, and mathematics. Applicants must have scored about a 75 on the English

Medgar Evers College – College Now
Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn has courses focused on social sciences and history. They usually do not offer
summer classes, and most classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. This is a great option for our
Brooklyn students to take classes that are more conveniently located.

York College – College Now
Free, pre-college courses at CUNY York College. Students can take jazz, theatre, music history, or social science
classes and earn up to six credits for college. An audition is required for some of the performance-based courses.

KIPP College Partners
Davidson College - July Experience
Students participate in the Davidson Experience, a long-running program at Davidson College. Davidson is a small,
highly selective liberal arts college and summer students enjoy the individual attention and multiple course
options available. There are limited spots available for this partnership program and interested students should
talk to their career counselor.

Franklin & Marshall University
KIPP students have participated in this pre-college program for many years and have always enjoyed the
experience and appreciate the special attention that F&M provides. Students take two courses, participate in
college readiness activities, and interact with KIPP students from around the country.

speak to their career counselor.

Georgetown University Summer Program
This partnership pre-college program is unique from the other pre-college programs that Georgetown offers. There
is a small group of students (about 50) from partner schools and students take
classes and participate in college readiness activities. KIPP students have
participated in the past and enjoy this experience on a beautiful campus in
Washington, D.C.

LEAD Business Program at U. Penn
The Summer Business Institute (SBI) at University of Pennsylvania program exposes students to business
principles and the skill sets needed for successful business careers. The program challenges them through applied
learning experiences often facilitated by college professors, links students to corporate executives in business
fields, and peers with similar aspirations and abilities.

Leadership in the Business World at U. Penn (LBW)
Leadership in the Business World (LBW) is an intensive summer pre-college program at University of
Pennsylvania for rising high school seniors who want an introduction to the fundamentals of leadership in
business. This four-week summer program features classes at Wharton Business School, company site visits, and
activities designed to give students opportunities to learn about leadership in 21st century business organizations.

Management & Technology Summer Institute at U. Penn
In the Management and Technology Innovation Summer Institute (M&TSI), students will be introduced to core
engineering and business disciplines, as well as the academic and career opportunities available in the fields of
engineering and business, with a focus on coding and computer programs. This program takes place at the
University of Pennsylvania, and applicants must have taken pre-calculus or a higher level math.

University of Notre Dame: Summer Scholars Experience
Summer Scholars participants spend two intense weeks in one of the programs of study listed in their catalog.
Students will complete work for their track outside designated class times. There is also ample time to enjoy the
social facets of college life, especially those unique to Notre Dame.

Wharton Sports Business Academy at U. Penn
Sponsored by the Wharton Sports Business Initiative (WSBI), the Wharton Sports Business Academy (WSBA) is a
summer program that provides an opportunity for talented rising high school juniors and seniors to study sports
business leadership at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. This program will examine how
various academic disciplines, such as management, law, negotiation, marketing, and
leadership apply to the sports industry with an overview of the business and legal
aspects of various intercollegiate, Olympic, and professional sports enterprises.

General Pre-College Programs
(HS)2 and (MS)2
Three-year summer residential programs in math, science, and engineering. Students apply in their freshman year
and continue in the program each summer for three years. The HS(2) program is based in
Denver, CO and the MS(2) program is based in Andover, MA--both programs have a
similar focus.

Bennerson
Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE)
This full-time, seven week program includes: college level workshops and seminars, a high level research
experience in participating NYU faculty labs, and mentoring by a graduate or postdoctoral student. Students will
also receive training in presentation and public speaking skills.

Barnard College
There are various pre-college programs available at Barnard College. Girls can select to participate in a one-week
leadership institute that focuses on training young women leaders or an entrepreneurship program. Students can
also participate in one- or four-week liberal arts courses, where you select two classes (from a range of options)
and decide whether to live on campus or at home.

Brown Leadership Institute
The Leadership Institute is designed for highly motivated and intellectually curious students who are interested in
complex social issues. Applicants should be excited to learn and want to make a positive difference in the world.
Examples of classes include global development, human rights, diversity and
leadership, and environmental leadership laboratory.

Career Explorations at Johnson & Wales
Three-day residential program to experience college life and learn about the culinary arts. You can choose from
classes in business, psychology, hospitality, culinary arts, or technology. This is a great program for students that
have other summer commitments (summer school, job, travel) because it is a short program to get experience on a
college campus.

Carnegie Mellon University - Summer Programs for Diversity
Competitive residential pre-college programs in architecture, art/design, drama, music, and the math/science
academy. Applicants should have strong academic and extracurricular experiences and have a strong interest in
their goals and reasons for applying. This is a very competitive program and the college highly prefers that future
applicants participate in their pre-college programs.

CATALYST at Cornell
The CATALYST at Cornell is a one-week program at Cornell University for high school students who excel in math
and science. The goal is to advance diversity in engineering and related fields and the program is for students that
may not have had prior opportunities to explore engineering, and want to learn more about the many
opportunities in engineering in an interactive atmosphere.

Civic Leaders Program at Hostos Community College
Free, pre-college course about government and civic leadership. Participants learn about local issues and perform
community service. Students earn three or more credits for college, for no charge. Students need to have a GPA

Biotechnology Summer Camp at Stony Brook University
