Localization of the RCM of Joliette
Localization of the RCM of Joliette
T
he RCM of Joliette is located at the
heart of the greater Lanaudière
region and is considered the
regional capital. The RCM of
Joliette and its central city,
Joliette, is considered to be
the region’s commercial
and industrial hub.
The RCM of Joliette’s
geographical location
certainly adds to its
appeal as a
prosperous area that
while in a natural
setting is nonetheless
close to the major
road arteries!
Conveniently located
near the major road
arteries, the city
of Joliette is only
15 kilometers away
from Autoroute 40 via
Highway 31. It is located
35 kilometres from
Montreal’s east end, less
than 40 minutes away,
and 95 kilometers west
of Trois-Rivières, representing
less than an hour’s drive.

The road network in Joliette is well developed.
It is made up of two main arteries and a secondary road in addition to Highway 31. Highway
131 crisscrosses the region from the northern Lanaudière region to the regional capital;
Highway 158 links the RCMs of D’Autray and Montcalm to the urban centre of Joliette,
and Highway 343 provides easy access to the RCM of l’Assomption and the north-western sector
of the Lanaudière region.
The road network is fluid, well maintained and gives commuters from the outlying regions
and major centres quick and easy access to Joliette.

commercial centre for the northern region of Lanaudière, its client and worker base is much bigger
than its population. Given the small size of the RCM (400 square km) and its geographical position
in the Lanaudière region, its client base and workers make up close to 300,000 people.

The RCM of Joliette has a highly diversified economy made up of a number of large manufacturing
enterprises, several industrial SMEs and numerous commercial businesses and services. In addition,
as regional capital, the MRC of Joliette has attracted a number of regional government branches
such as the CSST, Courthouse, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions, Emploi-Québec,
the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation, the CSSS du Nord
de Lanaudière and the Centre hospitalier régional de Lanaudière
Quality of life
L
he MRC of Joliette is undeniably a
wonderful place to live, raise a family,
earn a living and enjoy the advantages of
both rural and urban living. The RCM of Joliette
with an appeal all its own also happens to be
close to the major road arteries for easy
access to Montreal and other large centres.
For the benefit of your children
Each municipality in the area has a good
quality primary school under the supervision
of the Commission scolaire des Samares.
Whether from a French-speaking or Englishspeaking background, the school
administrators and staff go to great lengths
to provide quality schooling in an enriching
environment.
A regional hospital centre close by
The Centre hospitalier régional de Lanaudière
(CHRDL), located in Saint-Charles-Borromée,
offers general health care services and a diverse
variety of specialized services. Located at the
heart of the Lanaudière region, the CHRDL meets
the needs of its immediate population (over
150,000 people) and provides specialized
services to the region’s population (over
350,000 people).
Thanks to the devotion of both past and present
contributors, the CHRDL has developed and
acquired a reputation for excellence and quality
of care. It employs 3,403 people, including 109
specialists and 125 general practitioners.
In addition, the region’s family practice unit,
the Unité de médecine familiale du Nord de
Lanaudière, which is part of Laval University
family practice department, hosts resident and
external physicians who have chosen the UMF
du Nord de Lanaudière to pursue their training,
which ensures a constant renewal of the
medical staff.
There are also reputable primary and
secondary private schools in the area. Parents
may rest assured that their children are in good
hands with tailored schooling and a variety of
extracurricular activities (sports, cultural and
academic).
A cultural centre full of life
Lovers of music and culture will want to know all
about the festive, artistic nature of the RCM of
Joliette! Any time of the year, visitors to the area
can count on a selection of festival and major
events for their enjoyment and entertainment !
• Festival de Lanaudière (classical music)
• Festival Mémoire et Racines (traditional music)
• Les Dyades (music, fantasy and circus)
• L’October Blues (blues music)
• Les Marchés de Noël Joliette-Lanaudière
(handicrafts, music, exhibits, etc.)
• Festi-Glace (sports and popular music)
Big name concerts and events are held year
around at the Centre culturel de Joliette’s
Salle Rolland-Brunelle. And the RCM of Joliette
is home to the region’s biggest museum, the
Musée d’art de Joliette. Its permanent and
visiting exhibits appeal to both residents
and visitors from across the province.
The RCM of Joliette is also where you’ll find the
Amphithéâtre de Lanaudière, an architectural
marvel. Stage performances are held here with
over 1,900 covered seats and 5,000 seats
on the grass. For more information on tourist
attractions and cultural events, visit
www.tourismejoliette.com.
Joliette’s town centre, revitalized and improved!
Major work was done in 2008 to revamp Joliette’s town centre. Characterized by green spaces
and leisure areas, the town centre with its many boutiques and shops hosts a variety of cultural
and commercial events.

City of Joliette
T
he city of Joliette has two industrial parks :
one that is private (Nazaire-Laurin industrial
park) and one that is public and divided into
two sectors (J-A. Roy sector and St-Pierre Sud
sector).
Nazaire-Laurin Industrial Park
At the moment, the Nazaire-Laurin industrial park
has over 5 million square feet of property that is
ready for construction and which has a
complete range of municipal and public
services including water, sewer, natural gas
and high-speed internet.
The public industrial parks (J-A. Roy and St-Pierre
Sud sectors), with approximately 5 million square
feet of land, offer a complete range of public
services. The lots cost $0.50 per square foot in the
J A. Roy sector and $1.50 per square foot in the
St-Pierre Sud sector. Since the city of Joliette
owns an electricity distribution network on part
of its territory, the manufacturers in the J-A. Roy
sector are entitled to a rate discount program
based on total payroll. The discount may be as
high as $ 2.28 per kilowatt over a 5-year period.
Details of the Hydro-Québec program are
appended.

Notre-Dame-des-Prairies
T
he city of Notre-Dame-des-Prairies has an
industrial and commercial park with two
components. The first, which is private, is
mostly held and developed by a construction
contractor. This part is located south of the
industrial park and is accessed by the Rue des
Entreprises.
The second part, which is public, is made up of
lots belonging to the city of Ville de NotreDame-des-Prairies. It has a commercially zoned
area as well as a large light industry sector that is
almost 5 million square feet in size. The public
sector encourages the construction of industrial
buildings, principally manufacturing businesses
creating sustainable employment, over 15,000
