Welcome
Lilliput Lane is known worldwide for its miniature cottages, made famous for their fine detail,
unmatched quality and authenticity. From chocolate box cottages to homes of the famous
and buildings of historical importance, all aspects of the vernacular map of the British Isles are
included in the product range.
The first Lilliput Lane cottages were introduced in 1982 and they
immediately impressed with their authenticity and attention to
detail. From then on, whether recreating the intricate thatch motifs
decorating the roofs of traditional country cottages, capturing the
majesty of Buckingham Palace, or reflecting the sacred character of
the smallest church, the Lilliput creative team of sculptors, designers
and artists have delighted collectors with their miniature designs. With their fascinating
insights into many aspects of Britain’s heritage, the cottages evoke nostalgia for bygone times.

Handmade in Great Britain
Capturing the nostalgia and charm of
our heritage, as only Lilliput Lane can…
Welcome to the January 2015 Lilliput Lane Catalogue
featuring many old favourites as well as a fantastic
selection of new product offerings and themes, all, of
course, handmade and hand painted in our studios in
the Scottish Borders.
In the Club…the 2015/16 Collectors’ Club year will
commence in March and this year’s cottages all have a ‘brewing and beer making’ theme. Once
again, three delightful cottages have been produced exclusively for members, each capturing
a different process of beer making — and this year’s Special Event Cottage, The Malt House,
continues this theme too, so be sure to go along to an event near you this year to get yours!
Show them you care…with both Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day just around the corner we
have two delightful new cottages — Lucky in Love and No Place Like Mum’s — that will fit
the bill perfectly if you are looking for that something special for your loved one this year.
Centenary Celebrations…and whilst we are on the subject of great British institutions, this
gorgeous new piece has been made especially to celebrate the fact that this year marks the
100th anniversary of the WI (Women’s Institute) and what better way than with a fabulous
village hall from Old Warden, Bedfordshire?
As ever, there is so much to discover — enjoy!

Anniversary Collection
What’s new down Lilliput Lane?…featured on the cover and only available during this year,
is the 2015 Anniversary Cottage, Days Gone By. This beautiful building has been inspired by a
lock-keeper’s cottage situated at the bottom of the famous Hatton Flight group of twenty-one
lock gates, near Budbrooke, Warwickshire. And there’s another new piece with a canal theme
being introduced this year too, this time from Wales — Junction Cottage, from Pontymoile.
The red brick walls of the cottage
have been painted white and it
has a clay-tiled roof. We have put a
coal barge on our piece as the canal
was an important waterway for
transporting locally-mined coal.
L3733 DAYS GONE BY
WARWICKSHIRE, MIDLANDS
Height: 8.5cm Length: 12.0cm
This lock-keeper’s cottage is situated
at the bottom of the Hatton Flight
group of twenty-one lock gates on
what is now the Grand Union Canal,
although when it was built it served
the Warwick & Birmingham Canal,
which opened in 1799.

From Concept to Cottage
1. Each and every Lilliput Lane miniature is completely
hand crafted by our skilled artists in Langholm, in the
borders of Scotland.
2. The cottages are based on real buildings and many
collectors enjoy touring the country lanes in search of
the actual houses.
3. From photographs, the internet and sketches, up to forty
different processes then follow to produce a complex series
of moulds from the original sculpture. There is no room
for error, as the original wax sculpture is lost during the
the process!
4. Every tile, slate and flower is individually applied by hand
to build up the different textures and details.
5. Flexible silicone-rubber moulds are used to cast faithful
replicas of the wax original in a specially licensed material
called Amorphite™. Once this has set, the moulds can then
be carefully peeled away to reveal every last detail on the
cast model.
4
6. After being sealed and dried once again, the model passes
to one of our painters.
7. Up to thirty different colourways can be tried and
checked for authenticity before a master version is chosen
for each cottage.
8. Every skilled painter has to match each of the models they
paint to the master version, to ensure that each is consistent.
9. Finally, cottages are baized and labelled, before a final
quality check ensures that they leave Lilliput Lane in
perfect condition.
No seconds are ever kept; if they do not
pass our strict quality checks, then they
are destroyed.

L3720G CAERPHILLY CASTLE
CAERPHILLY, WALES
Height: 5.0cm Length: 14.0cm
This magnificent castle is one of Europe’s largest
fortresses and the largest in Britain after Windsor

with large-scale water defences is noted as the
first truly concentric design in Norman defensive
building and heralded as a masterpiece of military
architectural planning.

The next arrival at platform one is the Lilliput Lane Full Steam
Ahead Collection, a series of buildings designed specifically
with the railway enthusiast in mind! Now, model railway
displays across the length and breadth of the nation can be
enhanced by cottages and buildings scaled to size for N-Gauge
sets by the manufacturers of the world’s favourite cottages.
