What is well-being?
Well-being is the balance of your mind, body, spirit and community.
When you focus on enhancing your well-being, you can experience
many health-related benefits.
At the Parkview Center for Healthy Living, we can help you enrich
your mind and body through engaging community events like
exercise classes, cooking demonstrations and a physician-lead
lecture series. We also offer well-being nurse navigators to help
you jump-start, or continue, your well-being journey, as well as
personalized massage therapy sessions. Taking care of your mind
and body is important to your overall health and well-being.
Here’s why:
Mind
Enriching your mind and emotional health can enhance many aspects of your life. It can help you become better prepared
to handle life's everyday stressors, build strong relationships and lead a productive and fulfilling life. Nurture your mind
and emotional health by carving out time in your day just for you. Take a walk, chat with a friend or sit back and take an
imaginary trip to your favorite vacation spot – even if it’s just for a few minutes. You’ll be glad you did.
Body
Eating well helps your body function properly. Healthy, nutritious food and beverages can help you fuel your body and
feel good. Try eating at least one fruit or vegetable at every meal. And remember every plate is a new opportunity to give
your body the nutrition it deserves.
Getting enough sleep also helps your body function at its best. Try making those eight or so hours on the pillow a priority.
You can do this by establishing a bedtime routine that includes winding down with a quiet and relaxing activity like
reading. And, yes, that means shutting down your electronic devices. It will help you feel truly rested and ready to take on
the world – or at least your to-do list.
Staying active is key to disease prevention and longevity. Aim for 30 minutes of physical activity every day. But don’t
think of it as exercise or work. Rather, find something you enjoy doing and get moving – it could be a yoga class or daily
walk around the block. If a lack of time keeps you from moving, try incorporating it into your daily routine. You can walk in
place while watching the news or stretch while waiting for dinner to cook.
The Parkview Center for Healthy Living encourages you to take time to celebrate “you” because you’re worth it. And if you
need to make some changes in your life to improve your health and well-being, we’re ready to help. Let’s make 2015 your
year to be well!

Pathway to Easier Movement
Thursday, June 18, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
This class focuses on connecting your mind and body
using the Feldenkrais Method. This method uses gentle
movement and directed attention to help increase your
range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination
and rediscover an innate capacity for graceful movement.
Wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. All
fitness levels are welcome.
The Feldenkrais Method is named after Dr. Moshe
Feldenkrais, a Russian physicist, judo expert and
educator. After suffering a serious knee injury, he was
faced with a 50 percent chance of recovery, as well as
the possibility of depending on a wheelchair. Unsatisfied
with his prognosis and available treatment options, he
developed his own therapeutic treatment program which
later became known as the Feldenkrais Method.
