Over Mother’s Day weekend, our U10 Girls Black team won all three of their preliminary games to advance to the finals of the Novi Jaguar Invitational tournament. They defeated Livonia Meteors, Gators and Canton Celtics. The final game against the Vardar 98 Girls was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, and ended after 2 overtime periods with a win for Vardar. The girls played brilliantly in the driving rain for coaches Eddie Baker and Mircea Handru. Rules of The Game PAGE 2 Direct or Indirect? another player before it can go into the goal – that is the kicker and a second person. As a parent on the sideline, you can tell whether the kick is direct or indirect by looking at the referee. For an indirect kick, the referee will hold one arm straight up in the air until the second person touches the ball. No arm up, it’s a direct kick. There are many soccer rules around what causes a direct or indirect kick. In general, a direct kick comes from a contact foul or hand ball. Everything else is indirect. T H E P A C E S E T T E R S O C C E R C LU B SUMMER 2008 PAGE 3 Pacesetter Announces Introduction of SCRIP Program To learn more about Scrip click on www.NOSA.us. The FAQ section provides answers to many general questions while the Merchant Information link contains details about all the retailers that participate in the program. How to register? Pacesetter members should register at www.NOSA.us. Until a separate designation can be prepared members should register under the WTPSPA registration and list the school name as “Pacesetter Soccer Club”. Once registered, and a password is assigned, members can immediately order online through the same website. However before their order will be processed payment needs to be made as described below. How does each purchase earn credit? Gift certificates are purchased at a discount (which varies by merchant) then it sells them to its member families at full price. After a small $40 fee which covers some of the program expenses is deducted at year end from your earnings the difference is then applied to the purchasing family’s account. How does it work? Simple, on or before any given Wednesday (unless it is an Holiday weekend) by 5:00 p.m., a member family submits an order, at the Scrip Drop-Off Center (in either the indoor drop-off box or the outdoor black WTPSPA drop-off box) at our location at the Corner of Central & Cheltenham at 2828 West Central Avenue, Basement, Toledo, Ohio, for the scrip they want (see sample order form on page 7) with a check payable to the WTPSPA for that amount. The order is processed and the check is cashed Thursday morning. The order is then ready for pickup, in the family’s own pick-up box at the Jeff Traudt’s Insurance Building, the following Friday by noon. Pick-up is available Monday to Friday - 9:00 am. to 5:00 p.m. and not available on weekends and holidays. What are the fees and how much do I have to pay to start? The fees deducted from your account are a flat $40 from the gross amount of credits collected in a year. This is taken from the first $40 earned. THERE ARE NO PREPAID FEES. If a family does not earn $40 in tuition assistance then the remainder of the $40 fee is waived. After the deduction of the $40 fee the remainder is issued in the form of a check at the end of each fiscal year, April 30th. The percentages on the order form are EXACTLY the amounts of tuition assistance being generated by the member family. The fee structure has been designed to, with economy in mind, cover the costs of the extensive hours of data entry and compilation, e-mailing, communication to member families, sorting, shipping, office supplies, copies, rent, maintenance of the physical site, anticipated website, internet access, equipment maintenance, computer hardware/software maintenance and upgrade as well as other ordinary costs of doing business.
