1 Panel from Caterwauling Tales
1/8 yard Blue Dot on Purple (Star Spikes)
1/4 yard Solid Black (Star Background & Sashing)
26 Scrap Pieces from Panel (2 of each 13 unique ones)
1/4 yard Flowers on Black (Borders)
2/3 yard Frame Toss on Black (Backing)
2/3 yard Black Handspray (Inside of Pillow)
2/3 yard Batting

1/4 yard Green Dot on Pink (Star Spikes & Sides)
1/4 yard Blue Filigree (Star Background & Border)
1/8 yard Pink Stripe (Sashing)
2/3 yard Blue Stripe (Backing)
2/3 yard Pink Handspray (Inside of Pillow)
2/3 yard Batting
Cutting Instructions:

Cut to be 7” squared
8 - 3 3/4” squares
4 - 3 3/4” squares
4 - 3 3/4” x 7” pieces
4 - 1 1/2” x 13 1/2” pieces
2 - 1 1/2” x 30 1/2” pieces

Rip fabric at fold to form 2 even pieces
Trim 26 scraps - 1 1/2” x 7” pieces
2 - 7” x 13 1/2” pieces
Pieced Side Panels (Black Pillow Sham Only):
Piece the colorful strips together in the order shown
to the right. (Diagram 1) Make 2 sets. Ignore the extra
background that may be around the sides after cutting,
they will be sewn into the seam. Press.

Sewing the Star:
Place a Star Point square on the edge of 7” x 3 3/4” background piece right sides
together. Sew diagonally across. (Diagram 2) Cut out the center triangle and
press triangle into corner. Make 4. Now place another square on the opposite
side and sew diagonally across. (Diagram 3) Cut out the center piece and press.
Make 4 total flying geese. (Diagram 4)

Sew the 2 remaining background squares to each side of two of the flying geese.
Press away from the geese. (Diagram 5)

Sew the remaing two flying geese to the top and bottom of the panels. Press towards the panel. (Diagram 6) Sew the flying geese from Diagram 5 to the panel
pieces. Press outwards. (Diagram 7)

Sewing it all together:
Sew two f the 13 1/2” sashing pieces to the left and right sides of the star piece. Press. Sew the side pieces to each
side of the panel. Press. Now sew the two remaining 13 1/2” sashing pieces to the outsides. Press. Sew the two
long sashing pieces to the top and bottom of the pillow. Press. Now sew the border pieces to the top and bottom
and Voila, you have a pillow top! (Diagram 8)

Layer pillow sham top, batting and inside lining fabric.
Quilt as desired. (Skip if you woud like thinner shams)
Take one of the backing pieces and fold one side over 1/2”
and press flat with an iron. Fold again and press. Pin it in
place and stitch down the fold, sewing about 1/4” in from
the folded edge. Repeat with the second back piece. Lay
the sham front side up and place on back piece along the
outside with the folded side in the middle of the sham.
Stitch around the three outside sides. Back stitch along
the folded parts. (Diagram 9) Repeat on the opposite side.
Trim edges and corners. Flip to the right side. Top stitch
along the edge, insert pillow and Enjoy.
