Dear Families,
Gratitude fills my work at Bright Water School. All members of our
community shine: the inspiring, hardworking teachers who engage
students in thoughtful learning and help their strengths emerge every
day; the parents who support our faculty and contribute their energy,
skills, and resources so generously; the committed Board members
who have collaborated with me at critical junctures during the past year, helping me
strategize for the school’s long-term well-being.
We have encountered some financial challenges as a young school. The 2014-15
school year began with a need to raise sufficient funds to not only balance the budget,
but create a robust financial plan for the sustainable future of Bright Water School.
We presented our goal and you exceeded it! Your generosity was contagious, with
100% participation in the Bright Water School Community Fund. This is a proud
benchmark few schools reach. Thank you.
Providing financial aid is a fundamental value of Bright Water School – one that
enriches the diversity of our community. Last year, we needed the means to honor the
commitments we made to families. You rose up as a community once more through
the Spring Gala and helped use raise funds to keep our community strong. This
display of confidence was immeasurable in its impact.
Initiative and joy continues to define BWS as we move along the school year together.
We are pleased to report that we have made significant gains in improving the school’s
financial picture. Success begets success.
One of the best parts of my work is hearing from our graduates. The Class of 2015
has relayed stories of how well prepared they feel as they step into a high school
curriculum and environment. It is not only about their academic preparation, but
the inter-personal skills they developed at BWS that are serving them well as they
navigate new terrain. This spirit of resilience is evident in everything that Bright
Water School does. We have a clear plan to continue to grow the school with care,
following the compass of what matters most for our students.

The 2014 – 2015 school year was a banner fundraising year for BWS. In the
fall, we launched the Bright Water School Community Fund – renaming our
school’s annual fund drive to more accurately represent what it supports
– our school community. The name also speaks to how we as a school
community are united in our passion and commitment for Bright Water
School. True to that passion and commitment, 100% of our families, trustees,
faculty and staff stepped in to support the Bright Water School Community
Fund – a significant accomplishment in the history of our school. By popular
demand, we resurrected the annual auction as the Spring Gala & Fundraiser.
The evening of community and celebration raised funds to support our
school’s operation, as well as just over $45,000 to support our vital Tuition
Assistance Fund. Well done, Bright Water family!
