courses offered in Elora, Fergus, and
Guelph areas. A guide listing courses

ICONOLOGY
This series of lectures will add to your
pleasure and understanding of the works of
art from the Renaissance to the 17th Century.
We will view a selection of paintings from
this period and discuss their history, stories,
objects, symbols and meanings and “how
and why” they came to be used.

make. On the first night you will learn measurement techniques and how to calculate
correct yardage. In the remaining classes

How does solar energy work and how do you
set it up? This course covers the different
kinds of solar systems that are available, and
how the average home, cottage or business
owner can decide if their location is optimal
for solar. It also provides information about
the Green Energy Act, how it affects solar,
and why solar is now a great financial investment. Accessing government rebates for
installing solar will also be discussed. Class

Professional Engineer, who will answer these
questions and any others you may have
regarding this environmentally friendly topic!

URBAN CHICKENS
In this two night course, you will learn the
basic fundamental principles of landscape
design by a talented, experienced landscape
designer, Matthew Morris. Hardscapes
through to soft landscaping, surveying and
topography and the use of extras to make a
garden unique will be discussed mainly in the
first class. The second night will be more
hands on. Bring your own property layout,
pen, paper and any photos necessary for
class.
Join Matthew for a night on plants and gardening tips. Focus will be on best colour and
plant combinations. Tips on plant care: fertilizing, dead heading, disease control and
transplanting success.
In many municipalities chickens are fast
becoming urban residents. Learn about how
to care, feed, and house your feathered
friends to keep them happy and healthy. Find
out how easy and rewarding urban chickens
can be.

LOW MAINTENANCE GARDENING
Plan for an exciting year of blooms, birds and

Do you ever wish that your MAC laptop computer came with a “hands-on” orientation

Although MAC computers have some very
good tutorials, there is nothing like having

received the true value of his plays by seeing
them performed. The Winter’s Tale is one of
Shakespeare’s most bittersweet dramas and
has an extraordinary reunion, one that rivals
many of his other works. Students will spend
three sessions working in partnership with
the instructor and a professional actor
exploring the play. We will discover strategies that help to demystify Shakespeare
through various drama techniques. The
fourth session will be held in Stratford on
Saturday, May 29, where students will see

dimensional web pages and learn to design original artwork for Flash movies. The development
and creation of on line applications for business
and personal use is also covered.
Over the course of 9 weeks, students are introduced to basic file management principles in a
Windows environment. Basic introductory and
intermediate theories are studied with a practical
software application to Simply Accounting.
Students further develop their accounting skills
studying advance theory and application concepts in Simply Accounting for small and medium
size businesses. Upon successful completion of
this course, students should be able to perform
most accounting duties.

Specialized Language Training Course for Food Preparation
and Food Service Occupations
This Specialized Language Training course for ESL students covers topics related to food service
occupations training. It will benefit learners who are looking for work in a variety of food service
settings including kitchens of restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes and educational institutions, or
those planning to start a catering business. Students will develop their listening, speaking and
reading skills using vocabulary that will prepare them for work in food service and food preparation.
They will improve their understanding of written and oral instructions in a food service and preparation setting. The information covered will include points related to all stages of the food service
industry from the acquisition of and preparation of food to the interaction with clients and the serving of the meal.

Specialized Language Training Course for Skilled Administrative
and Business/Clerical Occupations
This Specialized Language Training course for ESL students covers vocabulary and idiomatic
expressions related to the word processing software of Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows XP.
Students will learn conventional presentation formats (formal and informal) and punctuation used
in business letters, memos, reports and emails. They will improve their ability to understand
instructional texts relevant to office procedures as well as improve their ability to understand verbal
instructions in an office environment. Students who graduate from this course as well as complete
CLB Level 6 will be eligible for admittance into the Computer Skills in the Workplace program at
the Wellington Centre for Continuing Education.
