National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc Undergraduate Scholarship Awards





Qualifications: senior; male or female who plans to attend college for training in the field of
education; evidence of need
Amount: Up to $6,000 in increments of $1,500 maintaining 2.5 GPA pursuing education

Deadline for the Stage 1 College of Engineering New Freshman: January 26th

HENRICO COUNTY/VCU ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
 Qualifications: Must be a senior planning to pursue a program of studies in engineering
(chemical, mechanical, electrical, biomedical); must be admitted to the VCU School of
Engineering; must be permanent Henrico and Virginia resident and United States citizen at
the time of application; pursuing an Advanced Studies Diploma; minimum GPA of 3.30;
minimum SAT I score of 1130; currently enrolled in or have completed Calculus I or
Calculus II; evidence of demonstrated leadership, and service to school and community;
involvement in extracurricular activities
 Amount: $10,000 per year. The scholarships will be renewed annually for the next 3 years,
based on successful performance in the program.
 Deadline: No applications will be taken after the 27th of January.

Pamplin Leader Award (Virginia Tech)






Qualifications: Must be a senior enrolled at a Virginia public high school; planning to
attend Virginia Tech; 3.8+ overall GPA and/or be ranked in the top ten percent of class;
open to students in all majors. Must agree to attend University Honors.
Amount: $5,000 one-year merit-based scholarship
Deadline: 1/28/15 by 4 pm to Mrs. Terry

all supplemental materials are due to Mrs. Terry by 4 pm on Wednesday, January 28th .
Three students will be chosen by the scholarship committee to represent HHS in the VA
Tech selection process for the one scholarship. **DO NOT MAIL YOUR OWN
APPLICATION.
Info: The scholarship will be presented annually to one student from each public high
school in Virginia who has applied to Virginia Tech, is admitted and accepts the offer of
admission. In Pamplin Leaders, we seek students with a record of outstanding academic
achievement that is balanced with a commitment to community service and leadership
experience. Announcement of winners for this scholarship will be made no earlier than
April 1, 2015.
Additional Info: In the Spring Semester of their first year at VA Tech, all Pamplin Leaders
will be invited to apply for the Pamplin Scholar Award, a merit-based scholarship equal to
tuition and fees for four years at Virginia Tech.

The program provides funding for tuition, books and lab fees to people living with bipolar
disorder, schizophrenia and related schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, so they may pursue and

Central Virginia Chapter-South Carolina State Univ. Alumni Association Scholarship





Qualifications: college-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic
achievement, and the student’s community service record.
Criteria: The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors who
reside in Virginia and intend to continue their education at South Carolina State
University. Consideration will be given to academic achievement; at least a 2.5 on a 4.0
scale; and the student’s community service record. Students should submit a scholarship
application on the form provided by the Scholarship Committee of the Central Virginia
Chapter of South Carolina State University Alumni Association.
Amount: Each scholarship awarded will be a minimum of $800 annually.
Deadline: The application must be received or postmarked no later than January 31, 2015.

Virginia PTA Citizenship Essay Project
2014-2015 Theme: "I can positively influence my peers by..."
Deadline: February 1, 2015 - postmarked/time-stamped to District Director
Virginia PTA and Virginia529 proudly sponsor the 2015 Citizenship Essay Project, with the theme "I can
positively influence my peers by..." This essay project allows students to express their views and opinions
on "Character or Citizenship". Virginia PTA and Virginia529 are committed to promoting a sense of
citizenship and responsibility in the lives of our children—tomorrow's leaders.
Who Can Enter?
All Virginia students in grades K – 12 presently enrolled in schools with active PTA/PTSA units in Good
Standing. A PTA in Good Standing is one who has paid state and national dues by December 1, and whose
bylaws are current, having been revised within the past five (5) years.
Criteria
• Students in grades 9 – 12 must write a minimum of 750 words, typed and double-spaced with Times
Roman 12 Font and 1" margins.
• Students in grades 6 – 8 must write a minimum of 500 words, typed and double-spaced with Times Roman 12 Font and 1" margins.
• Students in grades 3-5 may submit a maximum of 250 words, typed or handwritten;
• Students in grades K-2 may submit a maximum of 100 words, typed or handwritten.
• Special Writers may submit entries typed or handwritten.
• In all categories, adherence to the theme, originality, clarity, thought, and skill in standard written English
will be judged. The theme must be used as the essay title and cannot be changed or altered in any way.
Awards
Awards in all age groups (primary grade K-2, intermediate grades 3-5, middle school grades 6-8, high school
grades 9-12 and special writers). Winners are notified in April and featured in one or more of the Virginia
PTA's official publications: VOICE and www.vapta.org. 1st Place – $529 inVest account / 2nd Place – $250


Qualifications: Graduating high school senior who has achieved academically but is
financially unable to attend college; academic achievement, extracurricular activities, good
character; must plan to attend one of Virginia’s public or private colleges or universities.
The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program
…is currently accepting applications for the 2015 cycle. The deadline for applications is
February 1st.
This is a full scholarship program. Current high school seniors, and rising college sophomores and
juniors are eligible.
The Award
Scholarships are awarded annually and must be used at one of the eighteen 1890 Historically Black LandGrant Universities. Each award provides full tuition, as well as room and board for the term of the
scholarship. The scholarship may be renewed each year, contingent upon satisfactory academic
performance and normal progress toward the bachelor's degree.
General Eligibility
To be eligible for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program scholarship a student must: Be a U.S.
citizen, Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale), Have been accepted for admission or
currently attending one of the eighteen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Universities, Intend to study
agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or other related academic disciplines, Demonstrate leadership
and community service. Submit an official transcript with the school seal and an authorized official's
signature. Submit a signed application (original signature only).
Who Should Apply
The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is available to high school seniors entering their freshman year
of college and rising college sophomores and juniors.

Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal’s Award
Attention Seniors: Are you a leader, academically successful, and committed to serving your
community? In a one-page essay, tell us why you deserve to be Henrico High School’s Herff
Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal’s Award Nominee. Submit your essay and resume
to Mrs. Terry by Monday, February 2nd at 4 pm. If selected, you will complete an application
online and compete for a scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $12,000.

Lee-Jackson Educational Foundation Scholarship Program
 Qualifications: Virginia resident, junior or senior; cannot be a previous Lee-Jackson
scholarship winner; plans to attend a four-year accredited college or transfer to one after
community college
 Amount: One $2,000 and one $1,000 scholarship for best essay in Region. Additional
$8,000 to the student whose essay is judged best in the State. See info for other monetary
awards related to best essays.
 Deadline: 2/6/2015 to Mrs. Terry

 Qualifications: Area high school seniors; academic achievement, leadership potential,

 Deadline: Must be received by 2/12/2015. Mail no later than the first week of February.

2015 LAW in SOCIETY Essay Contest for High School Students
Qualifications: All Virginia students enrolled in grades 9-12 or a home-school equivalent are
eligible to submit an essay after reviewing the hypothetical online “A Graduation Ruckus in
Rocktown.” Must read the hypothetical online and respond to it specifically. Essays must be from
750 to 1,000 words or it will not be judged.
Amount: Cash Prizes for the top 8 entries; top prize is $2,300
Deadline: 2/12/15 by 4 pm. Don’t forget! The essay and entry form must be received at the
offices of the Virginia State Bar by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 by 4 pm, to be
eligible for judging.

Col. Charles E. Savedge Scholarship/Virginia Student Journalist of the Year
If you are interested in being nominated for the Col. Charles E. Savedge Scholarship/Virginia
Student Journalist of the Year, please submit an essay to Mrs. Terry in the counseling office
by February 13th (no more than one typed page, double spaced) describing the significance that
participation in publications has had in his/her life. Specificity and anecdotal information about said
significance greatly facilitates the Selection Committee’s task in choosing a recipient. Keep in mind
the following qualifications: 1. Be a graduating senior with a minimum of two years as a participant
of your school’s publications staff (either yearbook, newspaper/newsmagazine or literary

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Scholarship Award
Through its Education and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson Foundation provides
scholarships of up to $24,000/four years to minority high school students showing leadership potential and
demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.

Qualifications: To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
Be a graduating, minority high school senior; Plan to attend an accredited and approved four–
year institution within the United States; Show leadership potential; Demonstrate a dedication to
community service; Present evidence of financial need; Be a United States citizen; minimum
SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT
score of 21; Not possess a degree from a 2 or 4–year College when applying for the scholarship.



You are invited to enter the 8th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest and win

The Scholarship Endowment Fund of The Tuckahoe Woman’s Club
 Qualifications: Graduating high school seniors in the Richmond area; GPA 3.5+; financial
need (annual family income of $85,000 or less); strong participation in school activities
and community service; letter of recommendation and essay required.
 Amount: more than one $3,000 scholarship
 Deadline: 2/26/2015 (MUST BE AT the TUCKAHOE WOMAN’S CLUB BY 3:30 pm on 2/26 so since
school is in session at 3:30, it is recommended that you submit it by 2/25/15 at the latest)






Qualifications: High School Seniors and current undergraduates; plan to enroll full time at a
four-year college in 2015-16; plan to major in a field of study focused on engineering,
technology, design, or business, with an interest in the automotive industry or related field;
US citizen or permanent resident; demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and
financial need. Special consideration to: first-generation college student, female, minority,
military veteran or a dependent of military personnel

Virginia PTA Scholarships
Deadline: March 1, 2015
Virginia PTA offers scholarships to graduating Virginia high school students planning to enter
teaching or other youth-serving professions in Virginia. Two special scholarships are given.




A $1,200 scholarship memorializes M. Freida Koontz, the executive secretary of the
Student Cooperative Association from 1922-50.
A $1,200 scholarship honors S. John Davis, Virginia's Superintendent of Schools from
1979-89.
Additional $1,000 scholarships are also offered, the number of which depends each year on proceeds from
special Virginia PTA projects, functions and donations. All revenue from the PTA Presidents Honor Award, Life
Membership, Student Leadership, and Distinguished Service Awards presented throughout the state each year
go directly to the Scholarship Fund. Virginia PTA also holds functions at our annual conference to provide
additional revenue to the Scholarship Fund. Donations in honor or in memory of special individuals are always
welcome, as well as contributions to the fund.
Eligibilty: The student's school has a PTA or PTSA in good standing. Must be a resident of Virginia
graduating from a public Virginia high school. Must be planning to pursue a career in teaching or

Colonial Agricultural Educational Foundation Scholarship Program 2015
Please have your students visit our website at:

be submitted to us. Notifications will be sent by email to the students. Also, attached is a flyer for you to

endowment. In some cases, the criteria are so limited that there may only be a few applicants, which will
increase a student’s chances of being chosen.

2015 SWE RICHMOND SECTION SCHOLARSHIP
The Richmond section of the Society of Women Engineers is pleased to announce our 2015
scholarship. The SWE Richmond scholarship is a one-time award open to women entering the field
of engineering. The eligibility requirements for applicants are as follows.
1. The applicant must be a woman in the Richmond area who has been accepted for
enrollment at an ABET-accredited school. She must be entering her first year of school.
2. The applicant must be in a position to accept the scholarship toward studies leading to
a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in the school year of the award presentation.
3. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
The application is in Schoolspace and also available on our section’s website at

emailed to [email protected] no later than March 1, 2015. We offer up to two scholarships worth
$500 – $1,000. The local scholarship was established in 1989 by Dominion Virginia Power and has

encouraging engineering as a career choice for young women.

The 2015 GRASP Last Dollar Scholarship Application is now available on their

scholarship to a deserving student in each of our schools. Additional awards will
range from $500-$5,000.

Application Procedures

The newsletter will specify application procedures for each scholarship. The newsletter will
direct you to either:
o Pick up the application from the School Counseling Office file cabinet.
o Download the application from School Space “Scholarships.”
o Apply online.
Follow the newsletter or application instructions for mailing the completed application or
submitting it to Mrs. Terry. IF submitting to Mrs. Terry, place all COMPLETED application
materials in the box by Mrs. Terry’s door in the School Counseling Office—if it is on the due
date, make eye contact (when possible) and mention the name of the scholarship!!

Pay close attention to scholarship deadlines! Incomplete and/or late applications will not be
considered.
In some circumstances, the deadline in the newsletter may be different from the deadline
on the scholarship application. Follow the deadline in the newsletter and/or the earlier
deadline.
Scholarships that are due to Mrs. Terry should be submitted by the close of the school day
(4 pm) or the application will not be considered.
Transcripts
If a transcript is needed for the scholarship, submit your transcript request to your
counselor, especially if you need a letter of recommendation. Counselors’ must submit
transcript requests to Ms. Moss, school registrar, by Wednesday in order to be picked up on
Friday. Don’t wait until the last minute!
