We’ll start off the new year with The Woman in White, a Gothic mystery and popular “sensation” novel of the Victorian era. Any interested readers are invited to come to the book discussion, relax, meet new people, and talk about this first “mystery novel” that started a genre. Copies of the book are available at the library to purchase or to check out. All four 2014 titles will be available in CD audio format for those who prefer to listen to their classics! The three remaining titles are Bleak House by Charles Dickens, The House of the Seven Gables by Nathanial Hawthorne, and Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe. The group meets on the second Tuesday of January, April, July, and October. Newcomers are always welcome. Discussion leader is librarian Jill Cook. Call the library for more information. Holiday Decorating at the Library Perry Library is fortunate to have an active and supportive Friends of the Library organization that performs many important functions at the library. In addition to financially supporting our library programs and projects and holding book sales, the Friends maintain the many green plants in the building and take care of the holiday decorating. The Friends also provide special holiday “gifts” for us to hand out to children who check out books during December. We thank all our Friends, once again, for the beautiful holiday decorations! They lend a festive air that all our patrons can enjoy throughout the season. Starting in December, patrons will begin to see some changes at the library, all part of our Re-utilisation Project, which will be completed in spring 2014. The first stages of the project will include the moving of bookcases, some painting, and new pieces of furniture. The planning for this project began in January 2011, with input from library staff past and present, board members, and members of the community, and we are very fortunate that the expenses for the project will be fully funded by grants. More information about the project will be released soon, a little closer to the completion date. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we begin the transformation! 3 Holiday Items at the Library Did you know that the library has over 71 holiday and Christmas themed DVDs in its collection? Or, if you were to search our catalog by the key words “Christmas” or “holiday”, you would find at least 866 and 368 items, respectively? If you haven’t looked at our magazine or cookbook collections recently, you may be surprised at the number of holiday recipes you have at your disposal! Looking for that Christmas carol you heard recently? Check out a holiday music CD, and listen all season long. Don’t forget to pick up a great Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukah story to read while you’re here! Get into the holiday spirit at Perry Library, and take home some holiday books, music CDs, and movies to enjoy with friends and family this holiday season!
