Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park Newsletter SIKSIKA RUN AS ONE MARATHON & YOUTH CONFERENCE HOSTED AT BCHP Blackfoot Crossing hosted the Siksika Run A s One Marathon and Youth Conference from August 8-11, 2016, organized by Siksika Health. The August 8 marathon started at BCHP and spread out in four directions for 10 km. During August 9-10, youth took part in classes that taught tipi-raising, song-writing, and how to make fry bread and moccasins. There were also nature walks, language and cultural classes, a film festival, and a formal banquet. This was all part of Siksika Awareness Week as a whole to kick off the Siksika Fair, Rodeo, and Pow-Wow Days on August 11-14. We would like to thank everyone involved who helped out and cleaned up afterward. Page 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS/UPCOMING EVENTS GLOBAL FEST Once again, Blackfoot Crossing participated in Global Fest Calgary, a cultural and fireworks festival. Unfortunately, rainy and cold weather interfered, leading to cancellations and postponement of the dates BCHP was scheduled to appear along with other vendors. The bad weather also contributed to a drop in attendance. In spite of that, we distributed the July/August edition of our newsletter, which has been the most popular edition, thus far. Those disappeared quickly along with brochures. Due to limited space at the festival grounds, only a small tipi was set up. We’d like to thank Mariah Crow Chief, Mylia Red Gun, Makara Sleigh, and JR Water Chief for putting on a dance demonstration. We’d also like to thank Clint Turning Robe, Clarence Wolf Leg Jr. (Skip), and “Mr. Jackson” for participating as drummers and singers. Blackfoot Crossing is proud to represent First Nations at the cultural and fireworks festival every year.
