PAGE-10 The Echo of India Kolkata Saturday June 11, 2016 CREATIVE WORLD ‘Censor Board’ is torturing filmmakers: Deepak Tijori MUMBAI, JUNE 10 /--/ Bollywood actor-director Deepak Tijori feels the Censor Board is bullying filmmakers to follow their guidelines after his latest "Do Lafzon Ki Kahani" had to bear certain cuts by them. Tijori says he was asked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to edit an 18-second long kissing scene by almost 75 per cent from the romantic-drama, which stars Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal. "When we went to the censor, they offered to give the film a U/A certificate and asked to reduce an emotional kissing scene between a blind girl and an ex-MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter. It was dif ficult to convince them (the Board) not to do that," Tijori told PTI. "They said they will give U/A because there are fight sequences and blood. They wanted to cut those scenes," he said. "I argued that today kids are watching MMA fights online and are exposed to it. Even otherwise, the content was not graphic at all," he claimed. The filmmaker said he eventually settled to shorten the kissing scene but was surprised when the board also asked him to remove the word "saala" from the film."There was an 18-second kissing scene which they initially asked to reduce by almost 75 per cent. Later, we agreed to edit it to nine-second. The board is becoming even more ridiculous day by day," he said. "They even asked me remove 'saala' (a slang), 'kutta' (dog) from the film... My film is a lo ve story, it does not have a single abuse. They (the Board) are torturing filmmakers. Today it has got nothing to do with the content but only guidelines," Tijori added. The film, which is based on the 2011 Korean movie "Always", is set to release tomorrow. Tijori says he has been fighting against the board since his first movie "Oops!" "I have been fighting with the censor since my first film 'Oops!' which was way ahead of its time. They had objections with that film too and I had to beg them to retain certain scenes. They almost killed the creativity of the film." Yesterday, many filmmakers came out in support of "Udta Punjab", which is embroiled in a major controversy over censorship and voiced concern over the way censor board was functioning. (PTI) Whitney Houston was bisexual: Bobby Brown TE3N: Thrilling but not that unpredictable Debanjan Mukherjee KOLKATA, JUNE 10 /--/ Unexpected loss of somebody very close to the heart often turns even the most softest people in the world wild, and once they are in that mode, it becomes difficult to predict their plans of actions.......this in the nutshell is a hint of what Ribhu Dasgupta's thriller TE3N is all about. John Biswas (Amitabh Bachchan), a Kolkata-based Anglo old man refuses to give up hope of finding a clue about a person who had kidnapped his grand-daughter, eight years back. He keeps visiting the police station everyday in hope of ray of light, just to get back home with his dejection. Father Martin, (earlier Martin Das) who was a cop and was in charge of Biswas' grand-daughter's kidnapping case also discourages his quest but Martin keeps his hunt on. However, things start changing as one day Biswas spots a little deaf and dumb girl wearing a woolen cap which actually belonged to his granddaughter Angela, who was killed in the rescue process. And then begins Biswas' mission for reaching the bottom of the mystery tank. As the old man's probe continues another kidnapping of same nature takes place in the city and special officer of Kolkata Police Sarita (Vidya Balan) takes up the case. Kareena sets aside rumours of pregnancy MUMBAI, JUN 10 /--/ Actress Kareena Kapoor, who will be seen in upcoming film "Udta Punjab", has dismissed rumours about her pregnancy. Some of the actress's pictures had recently sparked rumours that she is pregnant. When asked if the news of motherhood is true, Kareena said, "God willing hopefully. I am a woman. But right now there is nothing to say about it." When prodded further if the news of her pregnancy was false, the "Ki and Ka" actress said, "The fact that you all are talking about it is making me super excited." Kareena will be seen next in "Udta Punjab" alongside Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh. The film is mired in controversy with the Censor Board for its content and language. The Abhishek Chaubey-directed film is scheduled to release on June 17. (PTI) Clueless about her next step, Sarita meets Father Martin at the church and seeks his help, since he was an expert in handling kidnapping cases and the x-cop, after a bit of dilemma comes forward to take up the challenge, which in Sarita's words is a second chance offered to him by God to prove his level of intelligence. This time the kidnapped little boy is the grandson of Manohar Sinha (Sabyasachi Chakraborty) and during the investigation process, happenings make Martin come to the conclusion that it is the same criminal who had kidnapped Martin's granddaughter. Proving Martin right, a ransom call of same pattern reaches Sinha's home which is being received by Sarita and the police force, this time more cautious; ultimately man ages to get hold of the criminal. They knock him down on a railway track, put handcuff on him and as they turn his face, which was being rubbed on soil, they are surprised and we reach the ‘Interval’. Who is he? No, this is not fair to look for the answer in the review. Go to the theatre to find it out. The second half of the movie is more gripping and fast paced and thanks to the scripting, scenes from the past and placed one after another in such a way that it becomes difficult at times to figure out what's going on. But that's why you watch a thriller, don't you? The actors are brilliant in their roles. Amitabh Bachchan as a vulnerable yet determined old man is brilliant, Nawaz is composed as usual and Vidya Balan as a cop who is handling a kidnapping case for the first time is perfect in giving the required expressions. The scenes where Nawaz and Vidya share screen bring back memory of ‘Kahaani’ and so do the scenes showing the immersion of Durga idols in the Ganges, the interior of tram at night and the random movement of torch light inside dark rooms. Doing justice to the mood of mystery, the skyline of Kolkata appears cloudy and blur throughout the movie and the music make the scenes more thrilling. If holding the audience at the edge of their seat is the definition of success of the maker of a thriller then Ribhu Dasgupta has surely succeeded, except in one scene, where the walking style of a mysterious character does a spoilsport. If it was done intentionally by the director, he knows best why he did so but if he has failed to notice it, it is a big error. However, that does not make a big damage to the storyline. TE3N is surely a visual treat for people who are fond of thrillers and for fans of Amitabh Bachchan the movie kindle nostalgia. I won't say more but will end with adding to the mystery with one line: Thanks Mr Bachchan for bringing back David, after ages. ‘Don’t plan your career’:Naseeruddin to Randeep MUMBAI, JUNE 10 /--/ The very well known actor Randeep Hooda says that his actor friend Naseeruddin Shah has advised him not to plan his career ever. Randeep Hooda has been associated with theater since the beginning of his acting career and is an active member of Naseeruddin Shah's Motley Theater Troupe. He considers Shah as his mentor, friend and confidant. "There was a time when I wished to get a break and I got a break for three years, not because of lack of work that came to me but because of lack of quality work. Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) bhai once told me when I was lying with a broken leg on bed, that the one thing that I am doing wrong is planning my career," Randeep told PTI. "He said, don't plan your career... It will take its shape, so that is what I have been doing. I want to do good stuff and there is so much diversity in my work," he said. Now when the "Sarbjit" actor is doing well in his career, he doesn't intend to take a break. "I wished for a break. I did not have work for three years and I don't want to wish that upon myself again. There are two-three things that are cooking. Let's see what happens first," he said. With films like "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster", "Highway", "Jism 2", "Kick", Randeep has always tried to do different kind of roles and he is happy that the industry has been good to him. "I think, may be it will take few more films in a row for me to get acceptance. But I cannot complain about the industry as I have always got work," he said. A successful film usually brings offers for the actors and Randeep is fresh out of the success of "Sarbjit". "'Sarbjit' was a hyped film but my performance in 'Laal Rang' was equally appreciated; it was one of my favourite films. So all this is going to accumulate into my filmography which will be seen by people. I hope I get better films. Every successful film can get me one more opportunity to show my work," he said. The 39-year-old actor will be seen next in "Do Lafzon Ki Kahani", where he plays an MMA fighter. "I did my upcoming film 'Do Lafzon Ki Kahani' before I did 'Sarbjit'. I gained weight (for 'Do Lafzon Ki Kahani'). I weighed 95 kg for 'Do Lafzon Ki Kahani' and came down to 65 kg for 'Sarbjit'; it was heartbreaking," Randeep said. The "Highway" actor is happy that the film has a good blend of romance and action. "The film has romance, action, good songs. After "Jism 2" and "Murder 3", this is one film in which the songs are best," he said. The actor has seen the Korean film "Always" on which "Do Lafzon Ki Kahani" is based. "I wondered why no one is making this film 'Always' in Hindi. Then Deepak Tijori (director) came with this story of two lovely lonely souls living in a foreign country. They meet out of fate and realise they have a connection," he said. After being in the film industry for around 15 years and showing his versatility, Randeep reveals he still gets petrified to do any role. "Every role that I get makes me feel petrified...thinking if I will be able to do it. This happens after I have acce pted a film. I have not decided what I will do after 'Sultan' but I will try to do something different," the actor said. This year Randeep would be seen in three films, of which "Sarbjit" has already released and is garnering good response. The other two being "Do Lafzon Ki Kahani" and "Sultan", Randeep feels having backto-back releases is hectic. "The promotion part is very tiring. But I think positively about it. The 39-year-old actor will be seen next in Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, where he plays an MMA fighter.(PTI) Benegal panel set to submit second part of report next week LONDON, JUNE 10 /--/Bobby Brown is convinced his late ex-wife Whitney Houston would still be alive if she did not have to hide her relationship with her best friend Robyn Crawford.Rumours about the superstar's sexuality circulated for several years prior to Whitney's death in 2012, with gossips suggesting she was bisexual and involved in a very private relationship with Robyn, who was also her assistant. "The I Will Always Love You" singer always denied the rumours, but Brown is now confirming they were true."I know. We were married for 14 years. There are some things we talked about that were personal to us," he said. Bobby is sure Whitney kept the relationship hidden because her mother, Cissy Houston, would have been completely against it. In 2013, the 82-year-old told Oprah Winfrey she would not have accepted her daughter being gay or bisexual."I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney's life, Whitney would still be alive today," Brown added. NEW DELHI, JUNE 10 /-/ The Shyam Benegal panel is likely to submit the second part of its report on reforms in film certification process to the I&B ministry next week. The Benegal committee had got a two-month extension for submitting the first part of its report which is already being vigorously being examined by the I&B ministry Jaitley had on Thursday said that movie certification norms have to be liber al and "some very radical changes" will be announced over the next few days. (PTI) ‘Housefull’ makers keen on making another MUMBAI, JUNE 10 /--/ With "Housefull 3" garnering good business at the box office despite mixed reviews, the makers of the franchise are keen to come up with another installment. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the comedy, which released on June 3, stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernande z and Nargis Fakhri. When asked about the possibility of "Housefull 4", Nadiadwala told reporters last night, "It is a g o o d franchise.Definitely we will be doing ('Housefull 4') very soon." On the occasion, Akshay said the scripting of a possible "Housefull 4" will take time, as it is not an easy subject to make. "We will sit and talk about it. It will take time. There was a gap of nearly four years between 'Housefull 2' and '3'. The script takes a lot of time. It is not an easy task to assemble everyone in one home, you need a strong reason for that," Akshay said. "So, it is not an easy subject, it is difficult to make. It will take one, one-andhalf years to begin," the "Airlift" star said. The film, helmed by SajidFarhad, is the second movie of the directorduo with Akshay after "It's Entertainment". Unlike the notion that heroines aren't necessary in the "Housefull" franchise, Akshay said they are needed to complete the script. Even in part three we are in love with them later on and that is why the script gets complete. (PTI)
