This last newsletter for 2014 is an important time and place to recognise members of our community who have contributed to the
school during 2014. To our School Council President and parent
and DEECD members, I personally thank you for your time and
tireless efforts devoted to the betterment of the school. Without
the council’s and members’ individual efforts the school would be a
lesser place.
Similarly, I thank the school’s staff for their support and high level of
professionalism in delivering and monitoring administrative and support processes; and teaching and learning programmes.
Furthermore, I thank the community organisations, which have
been a central part of our teaching and learning programmes. Each
has played an important part in the school’s success.
Finally I thank our students who individually and collectively have
achieved much and made significant progress in several areas.
Please enjoy the Christmas break safely.
Regards,
Junior School

Team Yellow
So this edition of the school newsletter marks the end of another fantastic
school year here at Kensington Community High School and in Yellow
group we’ve finished off on a really high note. Students haven’t just been
working hard to complete all their work requirements before terms end
they’ve been having a lot of fun outside of the classroom. We really cleaned
up at the 7 – 10 Awards Ceremony and would like to congratulate all the
students who won an award, a special mention should go out to Dale
Rowe and Odhinn Owens for their amazing musical performance during
the delicious BBQ lunch. Aside from this students finished off the Advance
program by completing a Safe Food Handling Certificate at MCIE which
gave them a taste of the TAFE programs which await those who are going
up to red group next year. To finish off we would like to wish everyone a
safe and happy holidays and look forward to hearing everybody’s vacation
adventure stories in the new year.

All schools have a Student Engagement& Wellbeing Policy that describes the responsibilities and behaviour expectations of staff,
students and school community members. Our policy has recently
been reviewed and has been presented to school council. If you
would like a copy to review please contact the school.
To support individual students experiencing wellbeing or behavioural
issues, the school also provides a range of support including a welfare team, a school nurse and access to a Speech Therapist and Psychologist. If your child is not currently accessing these services and
you feel that your child would benefit from these support services in
2015 please contact your childs teachers to discuss.
In addition, all students with a disability, in out-of-home care and
students with a Koorie background were placed on an Individual
Learning Plan last term. The results of the individual plans for semester two will be sent home with your childs report.
The DEECD website recommends
“If you feel that your child is having difficulties it is important to
discuss your concerns with them and ask for help when you need it.
Talking and listening to your child at the end of their school day will
help you find out what they have done at school, any positive experiences and also any difficulties they may be experiencing.
When talking with your child:
 try not to criticise or lecture
 try not to overreact but listen and share your ideas
 try to treat them with the same courtesy and respect that you
show adults
remember that talking face-to-face sometimes doesn’t work during
these years – so try to make the most of other times, for example
when you’re side-by-side while in the car.
Also, remember to speak with your child’s teacher about any concerns you have about their behaviour.”
