This two-day event is co-chaired by Winnetka resident Rob Zmudka and Buffalo Bills Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning Mary Owen, both members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s National Advisory Board. Chicago Salute to Greatness kicks off Monday, June 16, 2014 with an evening cocktail reception, dinner, Hall of Fame program and auction at the Glen Club, 901 W. Lake Ave., Glenview, Ill. Media partner 87.7FM The Game’s afternoon show, Jarrett, Harry and Spike, will broadcast live 3 p.m.- 7 p.m. from the Glen Club. The Chicago Bears are strong supporters of Chicago Salute to Greatness and are donating items for the auction. Tuesday begins with a Glen Club golf outing breakfast before a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. The two-day event concludes with an awards reception following golf. This event supports the Hall of Fame’s Mission Statement: Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values, and Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE. Both the Chicago Bears and the Buffalo Bills’ Ralph C. Wilson Foundation are supporters of Chicago Salute to Greatness. Hall of Famers who will be in attendance are: Dick Butkus, Dave Casper, Dan Hampton, Ted Hendricks, Marv Levy, Floyd Little, Tom Mack, Randall McDaniel, Anthony Muñoz, John Randle, Andre Reed, Jan Stenerud, Thurman Thomas, Dave Wilcox, Ron Yary, Jack Youngblood and representing their fathers, George Connor, Jr., son of the late Chicago Bear George Connor and Jarrett Payton, son of the late Hall of Famer Walter Payton. One of the goals of the Hall of Fame, through the Chicago Salute to Greatness is to impact the community where the event is held and this year’s benefactor is the Beyond Sports Foundation. The Highland Park organization prepares student-athletes to succeed in life by harnessing the power of sport to help student-athletes transform athletic ability into life opportunity. Beyond Sports student -more Page 2 Hall of Fame athletes typically come from under-resourced families in under-served communities in Chicago, and will need financial assistance in order to attend college. Many of the foundation’s student athletes are from populations that are under-represented on college campuses. “This year’s event plays an important role in the growth of the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” says Zmudka, co-chair of Chicago Salute to Greatness. “We are proud to have Beyond Sports Foundation as our partner. This organization exemplifies what working with young athletes means in helping them prepare for the future and perhaps become future Hall of Famers.” Prior to Monday’s festivities, new Pro Football Hall of Fame President David Baker will be featured at a Chicago Sports Commission “Business of Sport Speaker Series Event” forum focusing on football.
