Writing a good composition is just creating another piece of good
Art. A budding writer must understand this that when it comes to
writing, the work most often appears to be difficult, as how to
begin, what to begin with, and if it has been done, then
sometimes another struggle arises, how to end it ?
I tell you students — You actually need to visualise and write to a
plan. Do not attempt for superfluous language, with big difficult
words.
For the above grounding I may first of all begin with the first stage
of our job —the subject. Let our subject for today be Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru. The month of November is much publicized
about this gem of superior brilliance, adorning the pages of
Indian history. Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14th November, in
Allahabad.
However, Nehru's education at Harrow and Cambridge, his
drawing into India's struggle for Independence, his being
President of the Indian National Congress time and time again, or
his being a great spokesman for Third World Countries — None
of these are going to lead my topic here.
The topic would be Nehru's launching on "The Discovery of
India". It's his magnificent work of writing skill. It's a beautiful
survey of India's history, eddying from an informed and sensitive
mind.
You have to grow such a state of mind for creating a qualitative
piece of writing.
Subhasish Bhaumik
Letter of appreciation and heart felt thanks from the Editor's desk to :
Mr. Bhupesh Kumar Vice Chairman, for his unstinting support,
encouragement, his belief in us and for being generous with the financial support.
Mr. P. K. Srivastava, our Principal, for being generous with his words of
wisdom, inspiration and valuable advice.
All the students and members of the staff who have contributed to the
publication of this magazine
T
he Stalwarts of this Academy
School organisation consists in making all necessary arrangements for the growth of the Academy,
ultimately shaping the growth of the child. Therefore, organising is primarily a matter of making
arrangements – arrangements for housing school; as for Lucent it's being done by some very
proficient persons from Patna.
They are Mr. Vinu Shah, Mr. Manish Mouar, Mrs. Indu Srivastava, Mr. Pappu Kumar Sinha and Miss
Suparna.
No reason remains why they should not be called the stalwarts of Lucent International School. Their
Joist altogether has given background to this academy, against which normal work proceeds.
In fact a person like Mr. Vinu Shah, I must invariably say, has swayed my heart to call him 'Vinu Bhai'.
For months we have been talking over the phone, and I know sitting here in Dehradun, how much he
had been working to get the printing done, leaving no stone of effort unturned. Vinu Bhai, Pappu Jee
and Indu Jee have been working for Lucent International since its inception. They have really done a
wonderful job in showing the hilly track of Lucent International to the avid parents in Patna.
So, now after hearing from me, dear reader, don't you feel that they should be reverentially
considered as the stalwarts of Lucent International School, Dehradun ?
I am sure you do.

hairman's Message
It gives me immense pleasure that Lucent International School is bringing out its maiden
year book — ‘The Prelude’
In this fast changing academic scenario there is a need to promote the art of writing among
students. ‘The Prelude’ will provide ample opportunity to the budding students to express their
thoughts and feelings through words.
The book reflects all the activities of the school and its achievements.
It is gratifying to know that the school is doing well in academics, sports and
co-curricular activities.
The sportsmen have brought laurels at the National, State and District levels in Pistol
Shooting and Martial Arts. The students have also excelled in Inter School Dance competitions.
I am confident that with the best efforts put together by the students, teachers and nonteaching staff the school will turn out to be an ideal temple of learning.
I send my best wishes and falicitations to all on this occasion.
Tripurari Saran, I.A.S.
V
ice Chairman’s Message
This is a proud moment for me to announce the publication of Lucent International School
year book, 2013 named ‘The Prelude’.
I am delighted to witness the steady growth of the school in all spheres within a very short
span.
I had a cherished dream for an educational edifice having its pillars on strong, firm and
committed ground based on moral and ethical values. Lucent is the culmination of that dream.
I congratulate the sportsmen who have brought laurels and excelled at the National level in
Pistol Shooting and Martial Arts. Others have done extremely well in Inter School Dance
Competition.
The scholars are not far behind. They too have done very well in the academic field.
I am sure students, teachers and non-teaching staff — all will put their best, as they have been
doing so, in making the school a modern temple of knowledge and learning.
With best wishes to students, staff members and all those who have played their part in the
publication of ‘The Prelude’.
Er. Bhupesh Kumar

ROM DIRECTOR'S DESK
Lucent On the Pathways of Excellence
I joined as Director, this small but high dreaming school
on 11th May, 2012. It had 176 boarders, 395 day scholars and
40 teachers on roll, which now has grown to 369 boarders,
394 day scholars and 46 teachers on present roll.
The school had seen many ups and downs since year
2009, when it was taken over by Bhupesh Kumar Shikshan
Sansthan, headed by young visionary, IIT aspirant career
builder, versatile and dynamic educationist Shri Bhupesh
Kumar. It is under his able guidance that this school has grown leaps and bounds not only
horizontally, but vertically as well and made its presence conspicuous on the arena of good
institutions of Dehradun.
Lucent International School is bringing out its first school magazine.
I wish the school a great future.

P
RINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
The Principal of a school is not only a professional man
but he is professional leader too, because he inspires,
guides, directs and manages the whole educative process. As
a Principal, I take pride in stating that I lead a team of
motivated educators. The school offers a host of interesting
and exciting programmes to raise teaching /
learning
standards. The 'IIT Foundation Course' and Communication
and Personality Development are the best seen as involved
in planning and facilitating the process of delivering such
teaching / learning standards.
Accomplishments : Good order is sometimes mistaken for good discipline as I must say. It is
however nothing more than a cover for indiscipline, because we have sometimes great turmoil
under calm surfaces. A good order in that case may be bad discipline; but a good discipline is always
a good order. Lucent International School has brought this to consistency, where the pupil chooses
the right course of action and discards the wrong one. This has been possible by organising the
student's council in the form of 'Prefect Body'. It is thus an organisation of students which gives them
a chance to learn the skill of electing their leader and conducting their deliberation on democratic
lines. In this way the Lucentians get an ample scope for self-expression, evaluation and judgement.
This 'Prefect Body' is being seen inculcating so many values in our students (mostly the
boarder students). Such values can be stated as —
(i)
Promoting student activity
(ii)
Developing harmonious relations between students and staff.
(iii)
Assisting in the management of the school
(iv)
Providing a forum for the expression of students' grievances.
(v)
Developing student initiative and responsibility.
All these accomplishments mentioned above wouldn't have been made without the constant
guidance and support of our Vice Chairman, Mr. Bhupesh Kumar and the honourable members of
the governing body of the school.May I implore all parents and faculty to hold forth their
constructive cooperation in supporting every child in achieving this education for life.
P. K. Srivastava
M
essage to the Parents
Human personality develops in a social environment. In the childhood the
personality of an individual is very susceptible to change and variation. He can be
turned in practically any desired direction. In view of the fact that the experiences,
habits, etc., acquired in childhood are so extremely important, the family situation
also becomes important because the childhood of the individual is spent within the
precincts of the home.
However, it is incorrect to believe socialization to be dependent exclusively on
the family. School and other institutions or any association outside the family also
wield influence on the development of man. The child in the school is in addition to
the effect of education, vulnerable to the influences exerted by the personalities of
his teachers and friends.
Therefore, we should not clear off from the above facts. Rather, School and
Parents, must reciprocate each other for the progress of the child.
Thank You
A
bout The School
Mr. Bhupesh Kumar pioneered the foundation of Lucent International School here at
Manduwala, in Dehradun.Situated in the foothills of Garhwal Himalayas, amid a dense forest of saal
trees, this sprouting school overlooks the Himalayan species of flora and fauna. Under the esteemed
guidance of Mr. Bhupesh Kumar, the school gives more emphasis to the study of Science and
Mathematics. Dedicated teaching by the visiting teachers from Patna is bringing the school to a
respectable position among the schools of Doon Valley. Similarly, it is very perceptive of the
Principal, Mr. P. K. Srivastava to continue the legacy of Lucent International School, by imparting true
education, confidence, foresight and idealism to the future citizens of our country, studying here.
The foresight of Lucent International School : It says — 'Discipline' should be maintained
through positive measures and not through negative ones. True discipline is never a matter of setting
arbitrary rules and regulations and demanding their strict obedience and compliance. The school
promotes self discipline through student councils. We should know that self discipline is not a matter
of a day or two. It requires time. Watchfulness and patience is the part of our Principal, who always
seeks co-operation of pupils, parents and teachers for developing self-discipline in the school.
Sunbeam of Success : The 'IIT Foundation Course' that has begun under the leadership and
supervision of Vice Chairman Mr. Bhupesh Kumar, has given key challenges to any lacuna in the way
of success. Erudite visiting teachers like Er. Bhupesh Kumar (B.E.) for Physics, Dr. M. G. Ali (Ph.d) for
Chemistry, Dr. Anjani Tiwari (Ph.d) for Mathematics, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma (M.sc Research
scholar) for Biology and Mr. Ehsan Siddiqui for Mathematics teach the students their subjects with an
enlightened approach to teaching. Students realise that such an education is as much about
preparing them for a brilliant success in life. This 'Foundation Course' commences at class 6
onwards.

ROUND-UP
OF ACTIVITIES
Lucent International Says, "Life is a do it yourself project." Your life
tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make
today. So the students (Lucentians) have brought this saying to a happening.
Apart from Shooting, Horse Riding, Dance, which are to be found in many of the
schools in the valley, fine art, craft, dramatics, debate & declamation have so far, brought the biggest
accomplishment about our school.
Dramatics, debate & declamation are apparently making the students eloquent. Whereas
creative writing has acquired much regard in the recent year, students have begun to learn about the
values of story telling, elocution contests and mock-up discussion, which all takes place after
dinner, almost every day.
The boarder students have shown an enthusiasm in these activities. Their height of
enthusiasm could be felt while seeing them acting and declaiming during the summer camp that
went on from 6th June to 15th June in the current session.
The boarder students have shown their learning zeal in the English class for communication &
conversation too. They have always found this class very engrossing, with spelling bee, orthology,
comprehension, homophones, synonyms and group
discussion.

know more about what happened at Lucent
International over the year.

HE PASSING OUT PARADE
Students of Lucent International School had an eventful
morning on the 6th June 2013. 50 students accompanied by 4
teachers reached Indian Military Academy at 6 : 00 AM to witness the
passing out parade at the Chatwood grounds, IMA, Dehradun.
The ceremony which was scheduled for 6 : 30 AM, got delayed by one hour due to downpour.
At sharp 7 : 30 AM the chief guest, AIR Chief Marshal, N.A.K. Brown (AVSM) arrived at the
ground. Soon the parade started. Everybody was very impressed with the impeccable foot works of
the Gentlemen Cadets during the parade, who were soon to be commissioned as officers by the end
of the ceremony.
The most awe inspiring moments were the 'Antim Pag' (Last step) ceremony and the 'Piping'
ceremony. During the 'Antim Pag' the GCS were showered with flower petals from a helicopter.
Students enjoyed this flower shower the most.
Watching the entire ceremony amidst drizzle, was a wonderful and memorable experience for
them.

HE HEAD BOY SAYS
Today, as a boarder student I reminisce the days of Bishop Westcott School in Ranchi. Though
DAV Public School days were just the customary ones, as I had always missed those boarding days of
Bishop Westcott. Then came the change on the way once again. I was given an admission by Lucent
International School for class XI.
Change is the essence of nature, and so do I feel now when I look back to my
by-gone days. Apart from the studies which become a typical happening for any school, I found the
lost life in myself; rather I could retrieve the way for my future by becoming a boarder student once
again. Then, coming to class XII, I was transformed from an introvert boy into the captain of my
boarding, and further, I was chosen as the Head Boy of my school.
The credit for this goes to Mr. Bhupesh Kumar and Mr. Srivastava. It is because of their vision
and foresightedness that I am being able to run along the track of principles of prefect body.
I must thank my colleagues in the prefect body-----Abhishek Jha (vice captain), Krishna Singh (vice captain), Ashish Kumar(prefect), Sonu Kumar
(prefect), Hitesh Kumar (prefect), Kisalay Kumar(prefect), Ayush Bohra(Prefect), Roshan
Kumar(Prefect), Mayank Parashar(prefect).
The aforesaid names bear the excellence and so my these friends have been helping me to
detach any knot of impediment on the way of our progress.
In the end my thankfulness goes to Mr. Bhaumik, the House Master, who has ever been
generous to all we boarders with his blessings and lessons of life. And so my teachers, I would like to
assure you that I will never let you down.

HE HEAD GIRL SAYS
Respected Principal Sir, teachers and my dear friends, it is indeed a historic moment in my life
to have been chosen as the Head Girl of this prestigious institution.
I am deeply grateful to Principal Sir, for having placed his full trust and confidence in me, by
selecting me as Head Girl for the year 2013. Your confidence and trust in me together with your
blessings will give me the strength and the courage to fulfil all my duties and responsibilities with the
utmost dedication.
I have called this as the most historic moment in my life so far, as what more could a girl of my
age could ask for and expect as it is a mark of dignity in the students' community.
The only way I can express my gratitude and thanks is to assure all the teachers, friends and
Principal Sir that I will not let you down, but will live up to your expectations and hopes.

Inter School Declamation
Sahodaya Inter School English Declamation contest for 2013 was
held on 17th August. The contest was hosted by Welham Boys'
School, Dehradun. Twenty eight participants from various schools
met at the venue, each to do their best.
The participants had to declaim an extract from a writing or speech
by Rabindra Nath Tagore or Swami Vivekananda. The participants
did it competently. However, yet it was a contest and so the day
spoke for Nidhi Rawat of class 8 from Indian Academy,
Dehradun.Participant from Lucent International School was Shreya
Saurabh of class 7.Apart from being a venue of contest, Welham
Boys' School became a sanctum of discussion about these two
luminaries, during those hours.
Inter House GK Quiz
The Inter-House GK Quiz was held on 17th August. The Quiz comprised of 3 rounds, viz. Science,
SST and Computer. In the 1st round. Jal House was eliminated and in the 2nd round, Agni followed.
Finally in the 3rd round, Hariyali won, eliminating the Surya house.
Inter School Folk Dance Competition

My First Day in this School
My first day in the new school made me the
laughing stock in class room. I was sent to the
board to write my name and address. Surely I
knew my name and address, knew how to
write them, how to spell them; but standing
at the board with the eyes of fifty boys and
girls on my back, made me almost frozen and
I was unable to write a single letter even.
The teacher said, "Write your name and
address".
I lifted the chalk to the board. The teacher
said again, "Don't you know your name ?"
I looked at him but gave no answer. All the
children were laughing. I was literally feeling bad.
The teacher put his hand on my shoulder and said, "What's your name ? Tell me".I told him and so he
wrote that on the board. I moved back to my seat. In the last period that teacher came to the class
room again. He spent a substantial time of about twenty minutes, speaking on confidence. I was
much relieved. Do you know friends who that teacher was ?
Well you may guess..........................

Friendship
In our life, the relations have so many names, but the best one is 'Friendship'.
Mom says : "Tell me beta, What's your problem, I am like your friend na !"
Dad Says : "Don't be scared, take me as your friend beta."
Brother or Sister says : "Come buddy, don't hide anything from me. I'm like your friend."
Only a friend says : "Why would you tell me ? I am not your friend na."

My Best Friend
I have many friends. Among them Kaushal is my best friend. He is one of the best boys in our school.
He looks very handsome and walks like a prince. He comes from a noble family. His father is a
businessman and mother is a house wife.
Kaushal has many good habits. He gets up early in the
morning to go out for a walk with his parents. After coming
back home, he takes bath. He prays to God daily. He goes to
school in time. He always keeps neat and clean. He studies
and plays at scheduled hours. Kaushal is a very good
student too. He is the monitor of our class. He is a good
speaker and also a nice singer. He is a good player of
football.
I pray to God that we always remain friends.

Railway Journey
This year in the month of June, I had gone to
Delhi with my parents. Father had bought three
tickets, and so we took a rickshaw for the station.
We entered through the turnstile and came on to
the Platform. It was a different world. There was
a great rush. Men, women and old, all waited
and looked ahead for their trains. The book stalls
glittered with shiny magazines. We proceeded to
a tea stall. I took a packet of cashew biscuits and
some cakes for the journey. We were now
having sips of hot tea, though the day was
hot.The train for Delhi came on the track. We
waited for the things to settle down. We then
went inside the compartment. I took the seat at the window. Soon the train moved off. It was
gathering speed. As I looked out, the farmers, fields, lamp posts, mosques, all seemed to run to the
opposite direction. The night was pleasant. After having dinner, I went to sleep. The next morning we
reached Delhi. On the platform, I found my uncle with a broad smile on his face. He had come to
receive us.

Why are We Getting Educated ?
I don't think that many of you have asked this question to yourself, and if ever you have aksed, it must
have been at the end of the session of class XII. However, by far the answer is for getting the job. Then
why is there so much job insecurity and unemployment ? The reason behind this is we have
misunderstood education and its aims.
The real aim of education is knowledge and understanding which enables a person to develop
completely in a dynamic way. That is the reason why school curriculum
consists of text book knowledge along with cultural and sports
activities. Education is the basis of understanding oneself, and
one's environment and the relation between both. For eg— we
all breathe, however, the study of respiratory system and
respiration gives us the knowledge and understanding of
the relation between human life and air.I think many of you
must have seen the movie ' 3 IDIOTS' which beautifully
describes why one needs to get educated. My dear friends,
only an educated person can speak through his actions
even in the midst of system that "All Is Well"I hope now that
this question will arise in your mind. "Yes, why are we
getting educated after all ?"

India, in the 21st Century
Our country has made tremendous progress after Independence and we have very optimistic picture
of it. If we compare the progress of the last four decades with the country that India was at the close
of the 19th century, we would wonder at the difference. Our present country has achieved great
success in economics, trade, industry, education and science. The day is not far when the whole
world will recognise our India.
The new century will see India and Sri-Lanka as good friends. India of 21st century will become like
the country of my dream. All the citizens will be proud of being Indian.

Friendship
A friend is someone who shares the special moments and memories of life with another person. As
told by Bacon, "The Principal fruit of friendship is the ease and discharge of the fullness of the heart,
with passion of all kinds, do cause and induce. It is a true friend to whom one opens his/her heart. It
is the true friend to whom one may impart griefs, joys, fears, hopes, counsels and whatsoever lie
upon the heart which could oppress it.
'True friendship' is healthful and sovereign for the understanding. By an hour's discourse with a
friend, one can get valuable suggestion to overcome one's problems. If a man is lucky enough to
have a true friend, he may feel almost secure that the care of those things will continue after him.
These are the benefits of having true friends.
Good friends are hard to find. Hence it is important to recognise all the friends one has. Fair weather
friends are of no use. They are flatterers and therefore, may be dangerous in the times to come. They
can ditch at any moment, they can cheat to any extent, hence one should be very alert while making
friends. While friendship with true man fills one's life
with good moments, friendship with a false
person makes the life worse than hell.
In this fast going world, it is very difficult to
find a true friend. All seem to be very
attractive in their modern styles and
fashions, but they are not those to
whom we may expose ourselves.
Before doing it, we have to be sure
that person with whom we want to
develop friendship, is true.

Where every dish is your favourite and here you love everything. A life where every morning brings
delight and where every night is so beautiful.
Being in a city as beautiful as Dehradun is like loving every moment in your life and living life to the
fullest. May it be hanging out with your friends as enjoying an ice-cream at Astley Hall even in the
chill of winter evening. May it be a long drive on Rajpur Road or a leisurely walk with friends at Race
Course. May it be Vishal Mega Mart or be Big Bazaar, may it be a happy meal at Mc Donald's or a dish
of 'chaat' at Kumar; here everything is just awesome. Living here adds beauty to life
There is something in Doon's air which brings you a sense of enjoyment. Here you see the people
around, who with a simle on their faces are always ready to love and help; you'll never feel like
going away from this place. Such is the beauty of this place. One just can't prevent himself saying "I

My Favourite Festival, Deepavali
My Favourite festival is Deepavali. It is also known as Diwali. Diwali comes in the month of October
or November. We burst crackers at night. Before that we all worship Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that
on this day, Lord Rama, his wife Sitaji and Brother Lakshmana came back to Ayoodya after fourteen
years of exile to the forest of Panchvati. The people of Ayodhya lighted deeepaks (oil lamps) in great
joy of their beloved king's return.
Since that day, people light oil lamps and burst crackers in honour of this. I enjoy this festival very
much. On this day my mother prepares nice things to eat. This is one of my favourite festivals.

The Day when Everything went Wrong
I woke up late as I had slept late because of the long home work the night before. I went to the
bathroom but found that it was engaged. Anyhow, I moved for the breakfast. Mother had prepared
boiled eggs which I have always disliked. I ate half of it and went out to look for the school bus.
I could only pity myself seeing the bus leaving. I took to walking. The bell had rung and I was late by
some twenty minutes. I had to give an explanation to my class teacher. Somehow I managed to
convince him, but the next situation was turning even worse, when I was madly looking into my bag
but the home work note book wasn't there. How could it be if I had left it at home !
Second period came and another trouble knocked the door of my day. I had not done the home
work that was given for Maths.
The lunch break came. I could relax for some time and so proceeded for the canteen; but my
favourite snack, 'samosa and aloo chaat' had just finished. I
became furious but could not do anything.
Luckily, the last two periods went without bringing any
untoward incident. I came home with a sad face and
hungry stomach. The door was locked and a
message hung at the door that I should have
maggie, kept in the kitchen, as my mother was
away for a matinee with my aunt who had
arrived in the afternoon.
At last I said, "Really, what a day it has been
today !"

CBSE Vs ICSE
Teachers, friends and dear Lucentians I want to
share some common things which you all may not
be aware of.
From the day when students enter class XI, not a
single day of respite comes to their fate. The
colossal course to deal with is just a part of it.
People already alert them about it. But none of
them ever put in words the following for them that
"Dear child, when you enter Std XI, you will have to
face a different lot of the ICSE students, who know
everything, everything "EXTRA", for the simple reason that
it was in their syllabus, Poor CBSE syllabus look grossly
overshadowed by the mighty ICSE course.
English : They have studied Julius Caesar from class IX and mind you they have read the whole
book while the poor CBSE folks had only two acts of their course.
Physics : Is any law left on this earth that the ICSE books have not included ?
Chemistry : Ahh !! No fear about it, all the chemical reactions and formulae are on their tongue.
Biology : They are masters of it as their syllabus was quite elaborate. They know all about the
enzymes.
Maths : They are expert in logarithms and know the Set theory even before entering 11th.
Computer : Oh ! Troubled and vexed. Java programming is a childs play for an ICSE student.
Dear friends, No wonder the ICSE syllabus is like Lord Ganesha's belly which seems to encompass
all. However, I think that CBSE is quite more scientific than ICSE, and CCE is quite successful in
lessening the loads and pressure upon the students when they are in Std Xth.
But for ICSE students I wonder who stopped them from sitting in entrance exams just after their class
Xth ? why did they take admission in CBSE plus ????? WAS IT JUST TO HUMILIATE US ????

Nargis Dutt, The Film Star
You might even know her as the mother of Sanjay Dutt. Born in 1929, Nargis must have remained a
lovely, distant apparition beyond the approach of many earthly mortals in her time.'Mother India' in
1957, the film for which she got the Padma Shree award. In fact Nargis was the
first one among the film actors to receive the prestigious Padma Shree.
She was as beautiful as she was unassuming and friendly. The thing
which rouses interest in me about her, was her faith. Was Nargis a
Muslim or a Hindu or both or nothing ? She wore a bindi on her
forehead, married a Brahmin, gave her children Hindu names,
and was often seen in Swami Muktanand's Ashram at
Ganeshpuri, in Bombay. Nevertheless, she was buried with
Muslim rites in a Muslim graveyard with her Hindu husband
reciting the 'Fateha'.
I can't think of any Indian family which better exemplified
the principle of Sarva Dharma Samabhav. Apart from her
milestone film, 'Mother India', even rest of all her films were
no less popular or impressive, such as Shri Charso Bees,
Awara, Barsaat, Bheegi Raat, Jaagte Raho and Chori Chori.
No doubt so many persons have been nominated in the Rajya
Sabha ever since to fill her place, but the void Nargis leaves in
the hearts of millions of her countrymen, will never be filled.
She left us in 1981.

On The Way to Dehradun
It was the month of May, when I decided to leave my home town Patna for Dehradun. The decision
wasn't sudden and it wasn't also true that I was going to shift myself from a familiar city to an
unknown place. In fact, I was going to take up a job of teacher in a very famous school of Dehradun.
I had heard several times about the beauty and charm of this city that is possessed with beautiful
scenery in abundance. Dehradun is also very famous for its school education in the world and many
renowned persons have blossomed themselves in the lap of Dehradun. Perhaps, it might have been
the most relevant cause for me to catch an opportunity of being a teacher in this famous city.
I always ponder over a question that I simply ask myself "Why have I become a teacher ?" and I find
the answer of this question within myself. It may be because of my paternal heredity that I possess
by birth or it may be because of the voice of my eternal soul to rectify the whole system and
illuminate the way for others as far as possible. Whatever may be the reason, but it is true that I have
always enjoyed a lot and this profession has given me a height of satisfaction.
Life often gives you some unprecedented experience. It so happened with me on the way to
Dehradun. There was no bond of my joy and I was in a great hurry to catch the train. I just packed
my luggage and rushed to the station without making a single minute's delay. I was before the time
because the traffic jam in Patna is so jumbled and hectic that always creates problems for travellers
and it is always good to manage your time if you don't want to miss any opportunity to reach your
scheduled place. Being familiar to this situation, I made a forward step to reach the station and no
doubt I was before the time. The train was late for an hour and I perched on the bench and started
reading a newspaper. Suddenly, I felt a jolt and turning to my right, I found almost an 11 year old boy
who was in tattered clothes, was just standing before me. Perhaps he was begging alms. Like a good
motivator and teacher, I decided to give him lesson and asked abruptly — "Why do you beg alms
instead of studying ? Where is your father ?" My tone wasn't severe but the reflection of his face was
pitiable. I could only see drops of tears in his eyes. After some time, he wiped out his tears and
answered, "I have lost my father in my childhood. I have no other means of life. In this situation, tell
me how can I study ?"
I was dumbstruck by this answer and I had the only option to give him some coins without asking
any further question. I boarded my train on its arrival but there were lots of questions in my mind
that simply bothered me throughout the journey. In India, where 'Right to education' has become a
fundamental right for children, inspite of this, so many children are deprived of this opportunity.
And once again I asked a question to myself "Would I ever be able to illuminate the way of such
underprivileged children through my profession ?"
Alas ! I still don't find any answer to this question.

Teacher's Treasure
Student's Symptoms
A teacher is great,
Because none can grasp his trait.
He always depends on his fate,
He never wills to do tit for tat.
Students are wild,
But their minds are mild.
You can put them in any mould,
So students are called.
He is such a creature,
None can know by his nature.
His everything is strange,
So he always appears in change.
He is such a creature,
None can gauge by his signature.
What he appears is perhaps unreal;
What he doesn't, is perhaps real !
He can't be nurtured even on stretcher,
Because he is a very strange creature.
He ought to be handled with care,
Not showing tear or with hard blare.
So mind is powerful than body,
Knowledge than degree.
Experience than money,
Kindness than unkindness.
Even sweet sword blade than harsh word !

They are very curious,
But sometimes they turn furious.
You can control them easily,
If your mind is knitted neatly.
Their minds are like blank paper,
You can write on them any letter.
Whether you write wrong or better,
So you should think of teaching before or later.
They are a very precious creature,
Because they are our country's future.
We should give them proper nurture,
So that they may never lie on stretcher.

Dream
Books & Books
In a dream,
Impossible is possible,
Life is really possible;
Filled with joy and excitement,
Sometimes even with sentiment.
Books are our best friends,
They are of various kinds,
But not to confuse our minds.
I wish to walk in the air,
And see the world from there;
Sometimes I wish to bring the moon,
And keep it in my room.

The Riddle of Life
I grew from the ground,
I was a seedling;
By getting a little sunlight,
I grew for human being.
The journey begins with our
entrance to the earth,
And it ends with the exit of us.
Is that all, life meant for ?
Money is heaven,
Penury is like hell,
Is it the reason why man fell ?
I grew and grew,
By looking at this tree and that tree;
Until I became like them,
And then turned into a tree.
I had a lot of flowers,
Including pink, blue and green;
Juicy and colourful were the fruits,
They looked so serene.
I had brown hard wood,
Which attracted the wicked manhood;
They then cut me for making paper,
And so sent me to the mill at Sherwood.
I was then written upon and thrown away,
But I want to tell you humans,
We don't need you,
Rather you need us.

Life is the precious gift that
God had once supplied,
But despite knowing its value,
We made it futile !
A child crying for love and care,
An adult looking for an opportunity
to bloom, is now rare.
We have just forgotten the meaning of life,
And have made our life
a useless risky hive.
We do our best to deceive,
Doing so, on sinners we believe !
We've forgotten the joy of living,
Yet there is a hope for green.
For if we just wake up and see the world,
We will find in every human,
There is a heart within.

It expressed its pride
When I did something right,
And made my name spread and shine.

Smile
When Oppressed or depressed,
Sometimes deeply distressed,
Under a mountain of worry,
Just Smile.
When you have promises to keep,
Miles to go before you sleep,
Just stop for a while and smile.
When tragedy blends with its might
And dearest ones depart,
Have a good cry for a while.
Then Smile.
When wrongly criticized,
Rediculed or slandered,
Don't be shy with bites, but Smile.

Life is just like mathematics,
Friends are added,
Enemies are subtracted,
Friends are multiplied and
Sorrows are divided.
Life is just like science,

It is also like a game; play it,
