Our Dream Girls, Dr Seuss, Tribal Instinct and Bird Set Free Dance Groups performed and were outstanding. Our students were exhausted by the end of the concert series but it was quite apparent that the excitement of performing in front of a live and supportive audience eased the tired muscles. We had some great feedback from the backstage crew about how well behaved our students were, which was very gratifying to hear. Congratulations and thank you to all of the people who helped with the costumes, our dance group choreographers including Kylie Foreshew, Stephanie Cascio, Kylie & Brooke Farah. Thank you also to Ann Cabrera, Jane Steen and Natalie Atkins for the support and encouragement of our Dream Girls. A Superb effort which once again showcased the amazing talent at Wattle Grove Public School, both amongst the students and teaching staff. Student Reports Student reports are currently being completed by all classroom teachers. All reports will be forwarded home on Wednesday 29th June 2016 (Week 10-Term 2). All reports are to be retained by parents, as copies have been taken for administrative purposes at school. Y3/6 Athletics Carnival Our Y3/6 athletics carnival has been re-scheduled to Tuesday 21st June 2016 (Week 9), at Dwyer Oval (Warwick Farm), due to the inclement weather. New permission notes have been issued to all students, reflecting the change of date. Please return the new permission note and money, as soon as possible. All parents are welcome to attend the carnival to support the students. Any parent able to assist with officiating should contact Mrs Finn or Mrs Dodd by indicating on the student’s permission note. Year 6 students and parents will also be selling snacks and drinks at the venue, as part of their annual fundraising efforts. Your help would be most appreciated. Sport Themed Disco The Sport Themed Disco will be held on Friday 24th June 2016. Thank you to Kristen McCanna and her fabulous fundraising team who worked tirelessly in organising this event. Holsworthy Community of Schools Proudly Supported by MOOREBANK SPORTS CLUB Bikes/Scooters/Helmets A small number of students continue to ride to and from school without the protection of a helmet. Students riding on bikes and scooters should always be wearing helmets, for safety reasons and as a matter of law. Mrs Wilson and I would appeal to all parents to ensure that all students wear helmets with the appropriate Australian standard, as part of an effective road safety strategy. Parents should also ensure that students secure the strap on the helmet appropriately, as some students seem to think it’s cool to wear a helmet with an insecure strap. In the event of a collision or fall, the helmet will not provide the necessary protection from potential head injury. Finally, all parents should regularly discuss with their children the routes being taken by their children, to and from school either by foot or on bikes and scooters. Students need to be educated about safe crossing points and be provided appropriate strategies in order to maximise their safety. Knowledge of who they are journeying with is also important, in terms of stranger danger. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Bulldogs Knockout Carnival Our school fielded three teams in the recently completed Bulldogs Rugby League Knockout Carnival, which was played yesterday 15/6/16. Teams include 9yrs, 10 yrs and Opens. Our thanks to Mr King for organising our teams, as well as coaching. Thanks also to Mrs Cook, Mr Hamblen and Mr Lawrence for their support on the day. STOP PRESS: All teams played extremely well, with the Opens playing in the semi-finals, the U10’s making the grand final but losing 20-16, and the U9’s winning the grand final. Congratulations to all players. The U9’s will now compete in the State Carnival at St Marys to be held later in the year. Under 9’s Under 10’s Opens School Swimming & Water Safety Program A reminder that the Special Swimming Scheme is scheduled to commence on Monday 1/8/16 to Friday 5/8/16 (Week 3-Term 3). A permission note was distributed last week to all students in Years 2 to 6. The first 50 students, who return their completed permission note and the payment, will be accepted into the swimming scheme. The venue will once again be at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. The cost covers bus transportation for the week, as well as the pool entry fee. Please note that the following criteria must be observed; Students must be in Yrs. 2-6. Students cannot confidently swim 25m. Holsworthy Community of Schools Proudly Supported by MOOREBANK SPORTS CLUB Wattle Grove Public School Facebook page This week we have launched a school based Facebook page, ‘Wattle Grove Public School’. We feel it will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the hard work and success of the staff and students, as well as give our school community a greater insight into the programs and staff training we provide to improve student learning and wellbeing. We invite our school community to become a part of this positive initiative and ‘LIKE” our page. The facebook page will be closely supervised and will only publish photos of students with parent permission. As a school, we feel this will be another facet to promoting our positive community based school culture and we look forward to sharing it with you. PLEASE NOTE: Your child's photo (no names) may be used in upcoming Facebook posts as part of their participation in school events. If you would like to update or change your child's permission to publish status, please contact the office. ‘Small Steps’ Anxiety Workshops ‘Small Steps’ is an anxiety awareness program that provides free presentations for primary school teachers and parents in NSW. Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning to support your child’s health and wellbeing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts. We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law. Phone: 02 97311355 stage 3 Bathurst Trip During Week 7 Term 2, Stage 3 students attended a fantastic three day trip to Bathurst where we participated in educational programs focused on Australia’s Goldrush era and Colonial days, including our culture, history and heritage. Whilst away we also visited the Jenolan Caves and Scenic World. Our nights were spent at Bathurst Goldfields where we enjoyed a movie night, songs and dancing. Our second day was spent exploring the Goldfields where students were involved in viewing a blacksmith at work, gold panning, a museum tour, erecting a tent, making damper and mud/straw bricks. The students behaved admirably, receiving praise from the educators, bus drivers and the general public. I would like to thank the teachers – Mrs Phillips, Mrs Cook, Miss Bateman, Mrs Robinson, Miss Ludemann, Mr Hamblen and Jarrod Lawrence - who attended the camp, giving so freely of their time, leaving their own families, to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students.
