You also want to know if, and when, they are accepting new patients; and what you must do for your baby to become a new patient. Remember to consider the location of the doctor’s office you choose. Make sure it is easy for you to get to via car, walking, or public transportation. 2 1 You’re getting closer to making a final decision! Make sure you feel comfortable talking to the doctor and his or her team. Do they take time to answer your questions and discuss concerns? Is it easy to make appointments? You also want to find out how care is provided after office hours, on the weekends, and for emergencies. Congratulations! You’ve made your choice! This is the perfect time to ask if the doctor is able to see your infant in the hospital after delivery, and how soon after birth do they want to see your baby in their office. You also want to contact your health insurance plan to let them know who the child’s doctor is and add your baby to your health plan once he or she is born.
