HOMEMAKERS BEGINNING DAY FRIDAY, AUGUST 28
It is time to begin a new year in the Greenup County Extension Homemakers Association. Now’s the time to roll up our sleeves and get back to the business of our organization.
If you are a new club president, please ask the former club president for the KEHA
notebook that they received at last year’s August Council. We hope to have updated
pages for this notebook in each President’s packets on Beginning Day.
If you are a new leader or a returning leader, we welcome you to the Council and
heartily encourage you to contribute ideas and suggestions to make your organization stronger. We value each person’s input.
We invite you to attend this August 28, 2015, Beginning Day meeting that will begin
with a continental breakfast at 8:30am, prepared by Homemaker volunteers, with the
meeting immediately following.
We will have a great deal of business in which to discuss and make decisions.
County Homemaker Officers, County Chairpersons, Area Chairpersons residing in
Greenup County, Club Presidents, Club Vice Presidents, Club Secretaries, and Club
Treasurers are all encouraged to attend.
“KNOW THE 10 SIGNS: EARLY DETECTION MATTERS”
SEPTEMBER 10 @ 1:30PM
SEPTEMBER LEADER LESSON
The human brain ages just like the rest of the body. Slower thinking and occasional
memory loss often accompany aging. According to the Alzheimer’s Association,
memory loss that disrupts daily life however can be a symptom of Alzheimer’s disease
or dementia. Ten warning signs and symptoms can alert individuals to early detection.
Access to these materials results from a partnership with the Kentucky Alzheimer’s Association.
Join us for this leader training on Thursday, September 10 at 1:30pm at the Greenup
County Extension Office. The instructor for this lesson will be Nellie Buchanan, Family
and Consumer Sciences Agent from Morgan County. We look forward to having you
join us for this important leadership lesson.
All club Family & Individual Development chairmen should attend the training and pick
up training materials for their club.

FOOD PRESERVATION 3-DAY WORKSHOP
TO BE OFFERED AT EXTENSION OFFICE
Few things taste better than fresh-picked produce. Greenup County residents can
savor the flavor of summer’s bounty throughout the year and save money on groceries by preserving fresh fruits and vegetables. The University of Kentucky Cooperative
Extension Service is teaching community members how to properly preserve a variety of foods by offering free food preservation workshops across the state.
One is coming to Greenup County Extension Office on August 4, 5 & 6, 2015, from
9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. A team of experienced home food preservationists will lead the
three-day workshop, covering a variety of methods, from water-bath and pressure
canning to drying and freezing. During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn
how to can green beans, dry apple slices, and preserve homemade salsa, jams and
jellies.
Most importantly, participants will gain the confidence and experience needed to
safely preserve food in their home kitchens. Food preservation techniques from the
workshops are based on new recommendations and use the safest methods. By
learning how to preserve food properly, residents will protect and maintain the health
of their families.
Call the Extension Office at (606) 836-0201 to register. Space is limited.
