Morning Start off in the historic market town of Bridgwater and take a trip to the Blake Museum TA6 3NB, said to be the birthplace of the 'Father of the Royal Navy' Admiral Robert Blake, born in 1598. Head south on A372 to St Mary’s Church in Westonzoyland, to the Battle of Sedgemoor Visitor Centre TA7 0EB. Discover how royal troops defeated rebels supporting the Duke of Monmouth in his attempt to overthrow King James II here in 1685. Drive or take a short walk to the site of the Battle on Liney Road Grid Ref: ST351356. The Battle of Sedgemoor was the last pitched battle to be fought on English soil. It was here that the leader of the royal troops, Lord Faversham, is said to have slept the night before the Battle. Travel to Burrow Mump TA7 0RB or OS: ST359305, one of the most striking features of the Somerset Levels. Park to the eastern end of Burrowbridge village and walk the short distance to the site. The Mump is a natural hill, rising to 24 metres above the levels below, topped by the romantic ruins of a medieval church dedicated to St Michael. Journey to the Somerset Military Museum TA1 1AA located in Taunton Castle, telling the story of Somerset regiments both in war and peacetime from 1685 to the present day. End your journey either in Taunton or return to Bridgwater (12 miles or 20 minutes by car, follow the M5). Some sites have restricted access and are on private land.
