o ,FOOT -ST<T ilvenmclo, Washingbon " USA September 9-17th Message from the Chairman of the IWSF World Barefoot Council str, f" v t? iÈ ,WSF Welcome to Adna and the beautiful Lake Silverado Barefoot ever see, well now you know why. Club. Everyone said that this site was one of the sweetest we'd It's been 25 years since the World Barefoot Championships last came to the western United States. A quarter of a century ago almost to the day, we were down in San Francisco at Marine World Africa. Brett Wing came away as our World Overall Champion and together with his fellow Australian team members, secured the team gold as well. lt'd be interesting to know how many of us were there then and are with us now. I can think of a few. How many do you know? It's great to be back, and together with our hosts and my colleagues on the WBC, it's a privilege to welcome you to the 7th World Junior, 5th World Senior and 15th World Open Barefoot Water Ski Championships. These really are the World Barefoot Water Ski Championships! This week marks another first for our Sport; the first ever combined World Barefoot Championships. My congratulations go to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), led by Dianne & Doug Jordan and their team for having the tenacity, drive and ambition to take on what has been a mammoth task. You will all share in the fruits of the wonderful work that has been going on here on our behalf for the past 17 months. Just remember how hard they have worked to enable us to revet and enjoy in what is always a truly amazing experience - being part of a Worlds. Tell them how much you appreciate the fact that we are all here because of their tireless efforts. Join me in thanking them again and again.... We have all made many sacrifices to be here; taken the kids out of schoot, taken time off from work, travelled thousands of miles, emptied bank accounts, Ioaded up credit cards; the list goes on and on, but I can tell you that in the short time that we are here, all those sacrifices will be worth Make sure every single one of you enjoys the experience to the full so that it. you never forget the brilliant time you have here in the beautiful state of Washington. I welcome our IWSF Barefoot Water Ski Officials. like the LOC and their team, our officials will also be working hard from around 7am through till around 7pm each and every day of the Championships. They have a very important job to do here, for you and for the sport. They make those same sacrifices too so join me in saying thank you to them. Some of their decisions may be tough to accept, but remember that each and every one of them gives entirely impartial, unbiased and fair judgements every time, for each and every competitor. My thanks to the townships of Adna and Olympia for hosting us so proudly and to atl the championship sponsors and service providers whose support and input is vital for an event like this to succeed. lt couldn't happen with you. I wish all our competitors the very best of luck this week. Training time is over. lt's time to deliver the goods. Go and do just that, for you, for your team and for your country. Ski clean and make sure our fans and spectators have plenty to cheer about when you're out there on the water. Have a great time everyone. Andy Harris August 2006 WELOOME IfO TIIE \MORLDS It is with great pleasure that I welcome skiers, spectators and officials on behalf of the International Water Ski Federation at the 2006 Barefoot Water Ski World Championships. We all hope you enjoy your stay in the US and can find time in your schedules to enjoy the beautiful Northwest. To the skiers, we wish you all the best. Let us not forget, however, the words of the "Barefooters Prayer" which states, "...there are winners, thosc who do not mcct their expectations, but thcre are no losers." It is the positive attitudes alluded to in this statement that makes our sport great. I would ask that you please take time to thank Doug Jordan and his LOC for the hard work they have done in preparing for the first ever Combined World Barefoot ChamFionships. Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful time renewing old friendships and building new ones. Many of you I have not seen since Fergus Falls in 2000. I am looking forward with great anticipation to seeing and./or meeting all of you. Again, on behalf of the American Barefoot Club, we wish you all the best and if there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable, do not hesitate to ask. Doug Koch ABC President us A message from the Local Organizing Committee Welcome to the 2006 World Barefoot Water-ski Championships! Siluerado INGTON,USA The World Barefoot Water-ski Championships is where athletic skill, extreme balance and skier determination meet at the highest level of competition. These athletes train in many different conditions, in various and distant parts of the globe, but all come together today in the small town of Adna, Washington to show the world how they do it in their town. The Chehalis lndian tribe and south sound cities of Centralia, Chehalis, Adna and Olympia have come together to help us welcome these top athletes to Lake Silverado and introduce barefooting to the residents of this great area of Washington state. We built Lake Silverado nearly fifteen years ago with the interest of creating a world class training facility to prepare ourselves for these types of events and so it was with great honor that we accepted the invitation to host the World Championships. The requirements of a good barefoot tournament are smooth consistent water, fast boats and an energetic, enthusiastic, LOUD crowd. Lake Silverado provides the great water, Sanger and Gekko boats provide the second component and if you, the crowd, can come through with a rebel yell to bring the skiers to their highest we will surely have a memorable world championships for all those who have traveled so far to be with us. Barefooting is a combination of balance, strength, and speed which when done right is an athletic feat so graceful it brings awe to the viewer, when done wrong brings a gasp of disbelief as the fall generated by the physicalforces of speed and water send a skier like a rag doll thrown, tumbling and flipping in unimaginable contodions. We have pet names for these falls that all barefooters know only too well: The stinger, the scorpion, the eye-peeler, all pedormed unwillingly when the balance and the grace escape us. We hope that there are few examples of these and many examples of the best barefooters at their highest capability. We welcome all the athletes to America, to Lake Silverado, Washington, and we invite them to bring the best of their world to ours. With best regards and best of luck for a fantastic result at the 2006 World Barefoot Water-ski Championships, Doug & Dianne Jordan Eric & Tenley Cederstrand and all of Team Silverado Officials Brian Price Dale Stevens Peter Taylor Marga Lindeque Te.ry Jones Linda Heeney Claire Willard Eddie Wilson Andrew Crouch Joe Malenfant Mike Ozanne Jan Cummings Jackie Cilliers Bob Gregory Andy Harris Tim Pellaton Andrew Linton Jan Ter Wee Mike Schoenke Hilmar Wehner Dan Cummings Lou Sloot Rick Soublier Country Chief Judge Assistant Chief Judge Homologator Chief Calculator Calculator Calculator Judge Judge - CJ Secretariate Judge Judge Judge Judge Judge Judge Judge Australia USA Australia South Africa Canada USA New Zealand New Zealand Australia USA Canada USA SouthAfrica Germany Great Britain Chief Driver Driver Driver Driver USA New Zealand Reserve Judge Reserve Judge Reserve Driver Safety Director Germany USA Australia USA The Netherlands USA World Barefoot Council Brian Price Dale Stevens Andy Harris Hilmar Wehner Richard Gray Dawn Farrell WBC WBC WBC WBC WBC WBC Oscar Mann WBC AlexandraVigireaux WBC Geoff Davis WBC Brian Carroll WBC - Honorary Member Claire Willard WBC Reserve Australia USA Great Britain Germany Canada USA Australia France Australia New Zealand New Zealand Special Guests GilI HilI Dou" Koch IV/SF ABC President Great Britain USA Participating Nations â The Barefoot Water-ski World Championships comes to Washington, September 9-17.
