Gian Burrasca's
Diary tells the Adventures
of Giannino Stoppani, a fictional
character nicknamed Gian Burrasca (Hurricane Johnny) for the number of tricks he plays.
He is a very incorrigible naughty 8 years old boy who lives in
Tuscany with his wealthy parents and three older sisters, at the
beginning of the XX century. He receives a diary for his birthday and this spurs him into doing what he does best (naughty
things that distress everybody around him) and writes about it,
from his very own point of view. He breaks vases, floods his
home, "fishes" the only tooth of Uncle Venanzio out of his
mouth, paints his Aunt's dog, red, to have him look like a lion...
Finally, his parents put him in a boarding school, but even
there he continues with his tricks and pranks, and he also leads
students’ revolution against the school teachers.
The book is by "Vamba", whose real name was Luigi Bertelli.
The book was originally published as a series in the
“Giornalino della Domenica” in 1907, and in book form in the
1920’s.
