During the three-day expo, attendees visited
1,477 exhibitors to see live equipment
demonstrations—including hundreds of new
technologies—and compare products sideby-side to find cost-saving solutions. The
exhibits covered more
than 550,000 net
square feet. Attendees
also benefited from
the FABTECH educational conference that
included expert-led
sessions on some of
the hottest topics in
manufacturing.
“FABTECH gives
us the opportunity to
meet the type of customers that we couldn’t possibly know exist
out there,” said Arnie
Mayher, Jr., Stripmatic
Products Inc. Watch FABTECH show floor
videos here.
Manufacturers heard keynote presentations from senior executives at two Fortune
50 companies, Walmart and Google. In addition, a State of the Industry panel discussion
led by executives at leading companies such
as Caterpillar, Inc. and others offered insights
on the future of U.S. manufacturing.
In honor of Veterans Day, FABTECH placed
a special emphasis on military veterans during
events on November 11. A briefing was held
with five leaders of organizations dedicated to
helping close the manufacturing skills gap by
connecting veterans and National Guard
members with manufacturers. FABTECH
attendees and exhibitors in Atlanta also raised
money through the FABTECH Expo Cares
program to benefit Workshops for Warriors, an
accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
dedicated to training, certifying and placing
veterans in manufacturing careers. More than
$10,000 has been donated, and contributions
are still being accepted at www.fabtech
expo.com/fabtechexpocares.
One special networking opportunity at
this year’s show was the Industry Night event
held on November 12 at the newly opened
College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Nearly 1,000 attendees gathered to enjoy the
fan experience and network with industry
peers.
The next FABTECH event will be
FABTECH Mexico in Monterrey, Mexico on
May 5-7, 2015. FABTECH 2015 will be held
in Chicago on November 9-12, 2015. Stay

Wes Smith, president and CEO of E&E Manufacturing Co. in
Plymouth, MI, visited Washington, D.C. on
ADVOCACY
November 14 to speak at a Capitol Hill staff
briefing about several important tax issues for manufacturers including bonus depreciation and investment provisions.
“Not only do we need to maintain investment-tax provisions such
as Bonus Depreciation and Section 179 Expensing, manufacturers
need some stability,” said Smith. “We need to plan ahead.”
He continued, “Unfortunately, Congress is not helping.
Uncertainty from Washington causes employers like us to slow or stop
investing. If we can’t make these provisions permanent, at the very
least, Congress must extend them for all of 2014 and 2015.”

Congress, on October 26-29 in Strasbourg, France. There,
they networked with 200 metalforming-industry executives and spouses from
France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan and China.
The Congress offered an outstanding opportunity to discuss business issues,
attend plant tours and share industry-specific management practices with peers.
PMA ICOSPA Delegate Ralph Hardt and PMA 2014 Chairman of the Board
Jody Fledderman gave presentations on the North American manufacturing
market as well as PMA’s efforts to help members develop and train skilled workforces.
Immediately prior to the ICOSPA Congress, many PMA members gathered in
Hannover, Germany to attend EuroBLECH—the world’s largest metalforming
exhibition. Those in attendance enjoyed not only the tradeshow but also a PMA
networking reception and dinner, hosted by Tebis America.

PMA Receives “Delivering on the Promise” Award
from American Jobs for America’s Heroes
PMA is pleased to have been recognized by American Jobs for
America’s Heroes (AJAH), a nonprofit military
INDUSTRY
hiring campaign, for our work to help military
veterans find employment in the manufacturing sector.
PMA President Bill Gaskin attended AJAH’s first annual
“Delivering on the Promise” awards ceremony at the National Guard
Association of the U.S. headquarters in Washington, D.C., on October
23, to receive the award.
Brigadier General Ivan Denton, Director of Manpower and
Personnel (J1), praised PMA’s efforts, stating, “PMA has actively promoted the AJAH campaign on the PMA website as well as in frequent
newsletter articles, on blog posts and on social media to educate PMA
members on how to best reach veterans. PMA’s commitment to AJAH
shows that PMA knows that manufacturing is good for veterans and
veterans are good for manufacturing.”
In accepting the award, Gaskin commented, “PMA members who
have hired veterans report that these men and women have qualities
that make them exceptional candidates for manufacturing jobs—
qualities like a strong work ethic, a commitment to training, a respect
for safety and an attention to precision and detail. That’s why we’ve
been happy to be involved with AJAH and the good work this organization is doing.”
The AJAH campaign, which comprises more than 160 trade and
professional associations, nonprofit organizations and state
Chambers of Commerce, is a nonprofit coalition with the National
Guard to help unemployed National Guard members, veterans and
spouses find skilled jobs in the private sector. More than 1,300
