Campaign 2014 has come to and end. Here is a quick summary of the “unofficial” results for Tuesday’s election (the State Board of Elections will not certify the results for about a month). Federal: Dick Durbin cr uised to an easy victor y over Jim Oberweis (53% -43%) to retain his seat in the U.S. Senate. However, Sen. Durbin will serve at least the next two years with his party in the minority, as a national wave swept the Republicans into the majority in the Senate. In congressional races with local interest, three Republican incumbents all coasted to victory. Rep. Rodney Davis (IL-13) convincingly defeated Democr at Ann Callis by a mar gin of 59% to 41% . Rep. John Shimkus (IL-15) thumped Eric Thorsland by a 3-to-1 margin, winning the race 75% to 25%. Rep. Aaron Schock (IL-18) had similar r esults, soundly defeating Darrel Miller 75% to 25% . In total, the partisan make up of the Illinois congressional delegation changed from a split of 12 Democrats and 6 Republicans, to 10 Democrats and 8 Republicans. In other parts of the state, Republican challengers Mike Bost and Bob Dold, knocked off Democrat incumbents Bill Enyart and Brad Schneider, respectively. State: At the top of the statewide ticket, Republicans Bruce Rauner and Evelyn Sanguinetti defeated Democr ats Pat Quinn and Paul Vallas for Gover nor and Lieutenant Governor in a hard-fought race. Democrat incumbents Secretary of State Jesse White and Attorney General Lisa Madigan r etained their offices with relative ease. Republican incumbent Judy Baar Topinka defeated former Lt. Governor Sheila Simon in the race for Comptroller. The results for the final constitutional office remains too close to call, with Republican Tom Cross holding a razor-thin lead over Democrat Mike Frerichs in the Treasurer’s race. In local races for the Illinois House of Representatives, Rep. Rich Brauer (R-87), Rep. Wayne Rosenthal (R-95), Rep. Raymond Poe (R-99) all coasted to victor y unopposed. Rep Sue Scherer (D-96) defeated Mike Bell, 55% to 45% . Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-100) bested Josh Evans, 66% to 34% . Due to the staggered terms in the State Senate, only one race had significant local impact. Sen. Andy Manar (D-48) convincingly defeated Linda Little, 56% to 44%. 10 Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget your sacrifices President Harry S.
