L.A. City Controller,
Wendy Greuel
For 20 years, Supervisor Zev

is Christine Essel.” (9/12/09)
Who Can We Count On to Put Our Valley Back to Work?
Christine Essel
Putting Our Valley Back to Work.
Christine has an extraordinary track record of creating good-paying jobs in Los Angeles
for Valley residents. As one of the first woman senior executives in Hollywood, Christine
was tasked with the redevelopment of the aging Paramount lot. She invested hundreds of
millions of dollars in infrastructure upgrades, new facilities, as well as benefits for the
surrounding community. This resulted in the creation of thousands of good-paying
careers in construction as well as production, post-production and studio administration.
As our Councilmember, she will:
Establish Job Creation Tax Credits
Christine Essel will fight to implement tax incentives for L.A. companies that create
good local jobs, and to encourage new firms to locate in our Valley.
Launch “Stay in LA” Campaign to Bring Entertainment Jobs Back Home
Christine Essel will bring leaders from the entertainment industry, production and
location managers, neighborhood councils and economists together to develop an
emergency “Stay in LA” entertainment incentive package to bring jobs back home.
Renew Mayor Riordan’s Successful Business Outreach Teams
A former Riordan Commissioner and head of the Community Redevelopment
Agency, Christine Essel will work to bring back the successful business teams model
that worked to retain and recruit businesses in Los Angeles.

Christine Essel will cut red tape at City Hall in order to
streamline and reform the permitting and licensing
processes for local small businesses. She’ll stand up to
city bureaucrats who attempt to extract money from
mom and pop Valley businesses which has driven many
into more business friendly cities like Burbank,
Glendale and Santa Monica.
