CHRISTINEESSEL
Special Election! Tuesday, December 8th
Over 30 years of experience as a
business and community leader.
Deep roots in our community: Christine Essel was raised
in the San Fernando Valley, attended local public schools
and went to Cal State Northridge. She and her husband,
Peter, currently live in Studio City.
A record of creating jobs: Chris built a successful career as
a leader in the entertainment industry, helping create jobs
for Valley residents. As a Corporate Affairs executive at
Paramount Pictures, she worked to balance studio budgets,
manage dozens of employees, and turn a dilapidated studio
lot into a state-of-the-art production facility.
As Chair of the California Film Commission for nine
years, Chris fought for L.A.’s fair share of funding
from Sacramento. She also worked to save thousands
of local production jobs, leading the Commission’s
fight against “runaway” film production.
Proven leadership on LA’s toughest problems: Chris
was appointed by Mayors Tom Bradley and Richard
Riordan to the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment
Commission. As a Commissioner, she helped to turn
around Hollywood Boulevard and she led efforts to
create the Community Redevelopment Agency’s first
Green Building initiative. That’s the kind of
effective leadership we need on the City Council.
