Anheuser-Busch. “Try this ale with clam or corn
chowder, triple-cream brie or camembert
cheeses, or pork roast with applesauce
and toffee pudding.” Whether at
home or out with friends, this
beer is best enjoyed in a widemouthed glass showcasing its
rich auburn color and foam
collar.
“Fans of last year’s

forward to the return of
Winter’s. We think they’ll also be
pleased it’s now in bottles so they
can enjoy it at home with a holiday
meal or share with friends,” said Bruce Eames,

Anheuser-Busch’s popular Winter’s Bourbon
Cask Ale is back for a second year to entice the
taste buds of beer lovers everywhere.
For those who appreciate a smooth, robust
brew with rich aromas, this seasonal
offering is brewed with dark roasted
carapils, caramel and two-row barley
malts and imported Hallertau and
Alsace hops. It is then aged on
bourbon oak casks and whole
Madagascar vanilla beans.
Available through February on
draught at bars, clubs and restaurants,
Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale will now
also be sold in 12-ounce bottles in sixpacks at grocery and convenience stores.
“Winter’s is a great beer for not only sipping
at your favorite bar, but also as a nice match for
seasonal fare. Just as we tend to enjoy more
flavorful, hearty meals during colder months, our
choice of beer should complement these seasonal

working with me, and together, we will
accomplish great things.”
“Anheuser-Busch is ready for the next
generation of leadership,” said Mr. Busch III.
“August IV has successfully prepared himself
by leading the U.S. beer company through a
period of great change and challenge. He brings
with him the new thinking of his generation, yet
appreciation for the great traditions and values
of this company.”
“August IV follows a man of leadership and
conviction in Pat Stokes,” said Mr. Busch III.
“We are grateful for Pat’s vision, stewardship
and his countless contributions to this company
over his 37-year career. We have worked sideby-side for many of those years, and I have the
greatest respect and admiration for all Pat has
given Anheuser-Busch. He leaves a tremendous
legacy.”
“It has been a great privilege to lead
Anheuser-Busch for many years and to be an
active chairman of the board,” said Mr. Busch
III. “This is a dynamic, engaging business, and
this company is like no other. For me, this has
never been just a job, it has been my passion.
I’ve taken great pleasure in working with people
of character, creativity and commitment and who
have become my second family. Above all, it is
the men and women with whom I have worked
that I will miss most.”
Mr. Stokes said, “I have been fortunate to
work with a great team of people during my 37
years with Anheuser-Busch. I have worked
directly with August Busch III for more than 30
years and have learned from him and appreciated
his support.”
“As president of the domestic beer company
from 1990 to 2002, I formed valued associations
with wholesalers across the country,” Mr. Stokes
said. “As chief executive officer, I have had the
privilege of leading our company and working
with our international partners around the world.
I have every confidence in August Busch IV’s
ability to build on the success of the company
and I look forward to serving our shareholders
as chairman of the board of directors.”

NBWA worked closely with industry
partners to gain support for the legislation. Its
numerous supporters include the Beer Institute,
the Brewers Association, the Wine and Spirits
Wholesalers of America, the Distilled Spirits
Council of the United States, the Wine Institute
and others.
Beer distributors play a vital role in the statebased regulatory structure. The distribution
system provides a transparent and accountable
chain of custody in the sale of beer, making it
easier to enforce state laws and local ordinances.
The system also regulates retail sales, ensuring
that retailers hold the appropriate license, do not
sell to those under the legal drinking age, pay
state and local taxes, and generally comply with
state and local alcohol beverage laws.

effective underage-driving prevention measures
that we already implement and support. AnheuserBusch and our wholesaler family have long

The NBWA said beer distributors and their

The National Beer Wholesalers Association
(NBWA) applauded the U.S. Congress for voting
to pass H.R. 864, the “Sober Truth on Preventing
(STOP) Underage Drinking Act.”
This important legislation addresses the
serious health and safety issues involved with
underage drinking while providing the necessary
tools to government at the federal, state and local
levels to help prevent alcohol consumption by
those who are not of a legal drinking age. It also
acknowledges the important role state-based
regulation of alcohol beverages plays in keeping
alcohol out of the hands of youth.
“The beer industry is serious about the fight
against underage drinking,” said NBWA
President Craig Purser. “While much progress
has been made due to the efforts of parents,
teachers, law enforcement and others, we can
and must do more. The STOP Underage
Drinking Act will go a long way in providing
the necessary resources to bolster these efforts
and ensure states retain appropriate control over
alcohol beverages within their borders.”
Anheuser-Busch President and CEO August
A. Busch IV said the act “recognizes the
importance of the three-tier system and promotes

Contemporary adults today demand
individualism, customization, and variety. Spykes,
a new beverage from Anheuser-Busch, gives every
consumer the freedom to have all three. Spykes
adds a unique flavor to beer and is infused with
caffeine, ginseng, and guarana.
Spykes is a “new to the world” product that
allows consumers to be mixologists with their
drinks. It offers an extra “spyke” of flavor that
many contemporary young adults are looking for
in their beverage of choice. It is a premium 12%
ABV malt beverage, brewed, fermented, and aged
with the same quality as other Anheuser-Busch
malts. This
includes only
the
finest
quality barley,
malt, hops,
purified
water, and
cereal grains.
This premium
malt is then
combined
with one of
four sweetheat flavors:
Spicy Lime,
Spicy Mango,
Hot Melons,
and Hot Chocolate.
Spykes is available in cases of 24 2-ounce
plastic bottles or as a sampler with 24 4-pack

Missouri beer drinkers will soon be able to
drink “Missouri’s New Specialty Beer” from
Anheuser-Busch. Mule Kick Oatmeal Stout is
scheduled to be available by mid-January.
Visitors to an Anheuser-Busch website voted
for Mule Kick Oatmeal Stout, crafted and
brewed by a small team of local employees at
the St. Louis brewery. Mule Kick Oatmeal Stout
will be available across Missouri as a draughtonly brew.
Mule Kick Oatmeal Stout is a mediumbodied, oatmeal stout with flavor notes of
caramel and chocolate and a double-heeled
“kick” of roasted coffee and oatmeal. This
chestnut-colored quaff is a true salute to
Missouri’s official mascot — the mule. It
contains 5.9% alcohol by volume.

customer who is being treated for cancer.
“People remember help with the little things,
Gary said. “They may be little to us but they
can be very important to the customer.”
Gary noted that the majority of his customers
are women. “From Monday through Thursday,
up to 70 percent of our customers are women
and Friday through Sunday, it’s about 50-50.”
On a recent Friday afternoon, customers were
purchasing supplies for St. Louis Cardinals
playoff games. “Those post-season games added
the equivalent of two more weekends this year
in sales,” Gary said. “This year we’ll have 54
weekends instead of 52.”
Lukas carries 6,400 brands of wine, 1,425
different spirits and 800 brands of beer. “Beer
is our top performer with Bud Light and
Budweiser Select leading the way,” Gary said.
The store has 31 cooler doors for beer which
is cooled to 34 degrees. Lukas has a separate
area where customers can buy singles to “build”
their own 6-packs and sales of draught beer kegs
are a substantial according to Gary.
“I can always rely on Grey Eagle,” Gary said.
“Steve Jones (Area Sales Manager) and Sean
Patton (Sales Representative) are easy to work
with and anticipate our needs.
“It doesn’t matter whether a customer is
buying a case of Bud or planning a party, we try
our best to make sure that the customer is
satisfied and that they have received our fullservice,” Gary said. “That’s the way we measure
success.”
And, judging from the parking lot and instore traffic, Gary and his staff at Lukas Liquor
Superstore are doing . . . super!

said. “I think our success will be copied because
we are leading the way in providing a large variety
of products for our customers.”
Gary is a Texas native with 37 years of retail
experience. He talks proudly of his employees,
many of whom have been at the store since it
opened. “Our customers appreciate the fact that
we load their purchases into their cars,” Gary said.
“That may seem like a little thing to some people
but it is just one of the many small things we do
which add up to a pleasant shopping experience.”
He interrupted an interview to talk with a
woman who needed advice on what to serve with
a particular entrée. He helped her with the
selection and accompanied her through checkout.
Later he explained that the woman is a regular

Gary Bilder believes that customers at Lukas
Liquor Superstore in Ellisville deserve first class
service in addition to an extensive selection of
beer and other alcohol beverages.
“We provide service with a smile but we also
load each purchase into the owner’s car, we
conduct samplings and tastings so consumers
can know the characteristics of the beverages,
and we have experts on staff to help customers
choose their purchases,” Gary said.
Gary Bilder opened Lukas Liquor Superstore
at 15921 Manchester a block west of Clarkson
Road, almost seven years ago and, with 24,000
square feet, it is one of the largest package liquor
retailers in the Midwest. “Stores this large are
more common to the east and west coasts,” Gary
