Galatians 5:13 (NLT) For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Generations of Faith July 2013 Volume 6 San Jose Word of Faith Christian Center Quarterly Newsletter True Independence is Being in Christ! Galatians 2:20 (NLT) My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Knowing who you are in Christ Jesus (Part I) The following is a synopsis of the prayer that the Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:14-20 (please read it at your leisure) outlining the things that each believer should aspire to saying: 1. That we be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inward man according to the riches of His glory. 2. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by Faith.. 3. That your rooting and grounding are founded in love will provide you with comprehension into the breadth, length, and depth of God’s love. 4. That you would know the love of God that transcends mere knowledge. 5. That you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Paul knew that God has lofty aspirations for each believer and the yearning of his heart was that they would realize this revelation. Yet we see many believers living beneath their privilege, because they do not understand the nature of the relationship that they have with Father God. Therefore, believers are related to God; we who are believers are His spiritual offspring, which means that we are heirs to the legacy left by Jesus Christ His Son. The prophet Isaiah not only inferred that we as believers are the spiritual offspring of God—but he also identified the event that caused God to reveal us as his sons saying, “...When thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed...” (Isaiah 53:10). The Amplified Version of the bible renders the phrase “His seed” in the above text to mean “His spiritual seed”. The Apostle Paul referring to this fact said, “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). This indicates that a legacy has been left us as Abraham’s posterity. A legacy indicates the presence of a will and covenant that we as heirs can execute. Jesus told us where the will and covenant is found, when He said the following in the midst of the Lord’s Supper, “...This cup is the new testament in my Blood” (I Corinthians 11:25). The Amplified Version adds clarity saying for this verse, “...This cup is the new covenant [reinforced and established] in my Blood.” The Apostle Paul in an effort to give greater insight into the scope of our heritage spoke prophetically saying, “But now hath He (the Lord Jesus) obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also, He is the mediator of a better covenant” (Hebrews 8:6). He spoke again saying, “For if the ministry of condemnation (The Law of Moses) had glory, the ministry of righteousness (referring to the ministry available to believers today) exceeds much more in glory” (2 Corinthians 3:9). From these statements, it is clear that God has left us with promises of an inheritance that far transcends those given to even His people in Israel. This is like priming the pump of a well. As you bring Him the sacrifice of thanksgiving, regardless of your feelings, His Spirit is able to work more freely within you. This produces more thankfulness and more freedom, until you are overflowing with gratitude. God showers blessings on us daily, but sometimes we are not aware of them. When your mind is stuck on a negative focus, you see neither God nor His gifts. In faith, thank Him for whatever is preoccupying your mind. This will clear the blockage so that you can find Him. Isaiah 12:2-3; and Psalm 21:6-7 says that you are to trust Him and don’t be afraid, for He is your strength and song. Think what it means to have God as your strength. He spoke the universe into existence; His power is absolutely unlimited! Human weakness submitted to Himis like a magnet, drawing His power into your neediness. However, fear can block the flow of His strength into you. Instead of trying to fight your fears, concentrate on trusting Him. When you relate to Him in confident trust, there is no limit to how much He can strengthen you. Remember He is also your song. He wants you to share His joy, living in conscious awareness of His Presence. Philippians 4:4; Psalm 95 1-2; and Psalm 9:10 tell us to rejoice and be thankful! As He walks with you through this day, practice trusting and thanking Him all along the way. Trust is the channel through which His peace flows into you. Thankfulness lifts you up above your circumstances. God does His greatest works through people with grateful, trusting hearts. Rather than planning and evaluating, practice trusting and thanking God continually. This is a shift that will revolutionize your life. Psalm 36: 7-9; Psalm 132:15; and John 6:12-13 depict that God is the I AM of both complex detail and overflowing abundance. When we entrust the details of our lives to Him, we are surprised by how thoroughly He answers our petitions. He takes pleasure in hearing your prayers, so feel free to bring Him all your requests. The more you pray, the more answers you can receive. Best of all, your faith is strengthened as you see how precisely He responds to your specific prayers. Juneteenth Celebration - June 16, 2013 Because God is infinite in all His ways, you need not fear that He will run out of resources. Abundance is at the very heart of who He is. Come to Him in joyful expectation of receiving all you need and sometimes much more! He delights in showering blessings on His beloved children. Come to Him with open hands and heart, ready to receive all He has for you. This however, also becomes the time in your life when you must learn to let go: of loved ones, possessions, and control. In order for you to let go of something that is precious to you, you will need to rest in His presence, where you are complete. Take time to bask in the light of His love. As you relax more and more, your grasping hand gradually opens up, releasing your prized possession into His care. You can feel secure, even in the midst of dreadful changes, through the awareness of His continual presence. The One who never leaves you is the same One who never changes: I am the same yesterday, today, and forever. As you release more and more things into His care, remember that He never lets go of your hand. In this you can have the security, which no one and no circumstance can take from you. Psalm 89:15; Hebrews 13:8; and Isaiah 41:13. Crossword Puzzle Through the Word of God, I learned the saving works of God on my behalf, but I also learned that one of God’s key purposes in doing these works is to put me to work myself. The Bible tells me that when Christ redeemed me, he did so in order that I might now be “zealous for good works” Titus 2:14; “Whom gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” When God works in me day by day, He does so in order to produce in me the desire and the power to work for His good Pleasure. Philippians 2:12-13; “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” I am saved by grace and not by works. I am God’s workmanship created in Christ for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that I would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10; “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” And as I am working hard at doing these works for the good of others, I experience the truth of Jesus’ Words: It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35; “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” I also find myself saying with Christ, my food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work. John 4:34; “Jesus saith unto them, my meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” The fact that God has prepared such works for me to do become a part of what makes the gospel reminds me of the love of God for me, but it also reminds me of the love of God for the works that He saved for me to perform. The liver is the second largest organ in your body and is located under your rib cage on the right side. It weighs about three pounds and is shaped like a football that is flat on one side. The liver performs many jobs in your body. It processes what you eat and drink into energy and nutrients your body can use. The liver also removes harmful substances from your blood. How does alcohol affect the liver? Alcohol can damage or destroy liver cells. The liver breaks down alcohol so it can be removed from your body. Your liver can become injured or seriously damaged if you drink more alcohol than it can process. What are the different types of alcohol-related liver disease? There are three main types of alcohol-related liver disease: fatty liver disease, alcoholic hepatitis, and alcoholic cirrhosis. Fatty liver disease Fatty liver disease is the build up of extra fat in liver cells. It is the earliest stage of alcohol-related liver disease. There are usually no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they may include fatigue, weakness, and weight loss. Almost all heavy drinkers have fatty liver disease. However, if they stop drinking, fatty liver disease will usually go away. Alcoholic hepatitis Alcoholic hepatitis causes the liver to swell and become damaged. Symptoms may include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and jaundice. Up to 35 percent of heavy drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis. Alcoholic hepatitis can be mild or severe. If it is mild, liver damage may be reversed. If it is severe, it may occur suddenly and quickly lead to serious complications including liver failure and death. Alcoholic cirrhosis Alcoholic cirrhosis is the scarring of the liver -- hard scar tissue replaces soft healthy tissue. It is the most serious type of alcohol-related liver disease. Symptoms of cirrhosis are similar to those of alcoholic hepatitis. Between 10 and 20 percent of heavy drinkers develop cirrhosis. The damage from cirrhosis cannot be reversed and can cause liver failure. Not drinking alcohol can help prevent further damage. What Does the Bible Say About Alcohol? Much of the debate over drinking comes from the known effects of alcohol. Many denominations feel that the effects of alcohol pull people away from a relationship with God, so they ban any use of alcohol. Others feel that drinking in itself is not sinful (after all, Jesus turned water into wine), but that excessive drinking can be sinful. Whether you adhere to one philosophy on drinking or the other, you need to know that God is with you, helping you to make the best decisions for your heath and your soul.
