The 2015-2016 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now available. Any student wishing to receive financial assistance for college must fill this out. Priority consideration for State programs is given to those students who applied and whose application is received at the federal processor on or before March. If you need help filling out the FAFSA, please visit the The MI College Goal Website for locations around Michigan. Financial aid professionals are there to assist you. The FAFSA can be completed at: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Congratulations to our seventy-four CHS DECA students who attended regional competition at Ferris State University this week. We were among 18 schools that competed in 26 of the 30 Marketing / Business events. If you know any of our students, please congratulate them. Once final results are sorted out, we will highlight and share individual accomplishments. Nevertheless, as a team, 47 of our students earned a total of 90 medals in competition, testing, and as an overall finalist. Fifty of our students will be moving on to state competition in Grand Rapids March 13th - 15th. PSAT RESULTS Students that took the PSAT can pick up their results in Student Services. Feel free to contact your counselor with any questions about your results and what they mean. We had some amazing concerts this past week from our music department! If you missed it, check out this youtube link and catch the video. We have some very talented students. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb3ol9DB04NwZ1PJM78ZU5Q Currently Choir Concert is available. Check this link later for Orchestra and Band to be added. The class of 2017 (Sophomore class) does not currently have a parent committee to help organize the Senior all Night Party. This committee usually begins collecting funds and making arrangements 3-4 years in advance. If you are interested in helping, coordinating or running this awesome event, please contact Dawn Reigler in the office. At Spring conference time, our parents put on a great Teacher Appreciation Dinner for the Staff prior to Wednesday conferences. We are in need of someone to take over organizing this event. It is not a big job and so many parents always step up. All details and duties are clearly outlined and come in a handy organized binder. It only takes a few emails to help make this event happen! If you are interested in this volunteer job, please contact Lorna Hullinger at [email protected] or 891.8129. Caledonia Community Schools Says Thanks! Caledonia Community Schools and Aramark Food Service would like to thank you for participating in our electronic deposit system www.sendmoneytoschool.com, and maintaining your students account with positive balances. As a means of saying thanks, Caledonia Community Schools is going to absorb the bank administrative fee of your transaction for the month of January 2015. This is also an effort to save our families a little bit of money, especially after the holidays. As always, our electronic deposit has alleviated the amount of cash the students have to carry internally to pay for their food. The program also allows you as the parent to see what your student is purchasing and eating on a daily basis. If you do not have an account you can create it in a few minutes by going to the web page listed above. *Questions on opening your account can be directed to the Food Service Office at (616)891-0227. We try to do our best to promote healthy eating and provide quality meals that include fresh fruit and fresh vegetables daily. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your students’ life. Caledonia Community Schools To: Caledonia High School Staff, Students, Parents From: Jim Crites Re: 2nd Trimester Exams and MME The State of Michigan has made changes to the Spring 2015 Michigan Merit Exam taken by all Juniors, which has led to CHS needing to move up its final exam schedule by one day. Juniors will be exempted from their final exams, unless they wish to to take an exam(s) to improve a grade, or if they must take an exam(s) per the attendance policy. Final exam/MME dates will now be as follows: Mon, March 2: -5th Macro final exam, shortened 1-4th macros (full day) *Juniors do not need to report to school until 1st macro (9:23am) Tues, March 3: -1st and 2nd macro final exams (done at 11:00am) -ACT+Writing (Juniors) Wed, March 4: -3rd and 4th macro final exams (done at 11:00am) -WorkKeys (Juniors) The third day of MME testing, which has historically followed the first two, will now take place over several days in April. This new test is called the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (MSTEP). Junior students and parents will receive more detailed information about this school year’s MME as the testing dates draw nearer. Thank you for your understanding as we work to best coordinate our schedule with the new state requirements. Sincerely, Jim Crites Assistant Principal/MME Test Supervisor SENIORS 2015 ATTENTION: Class of 2015 Dear Senior Parents, Thanks to those who have sent in payments and contacted us with your plans. The holidays are fast approaching, and we know things will get crazy as we roll through SENIOR year. It is important that we get an accurate head count as soon as possible for the Senior All-Night Party. A payment of ANY amount will hold a spot for your student or RSVP to [email protected] for further arrangements! Please let us know if payments are an issue for your family so we can make this evening possible for your student. Donations may also be sent in for scholarships to anonymously help another student in need of assistance. Payments can be made at your convenience by sending a check made out to Caledonia Class of 2015 to the office at anytime in an envelope that is clearly marked. If you would rather mail it directly to Marcy, see the address below. This party is planned to give the students a safe place to celebrate and spend the night together with friends, food, and fun activities. Your payments are essential so that there are funds available to secure things needed to make this event a success! The total payment due is $130.
