These will be celebrated for the next six weeks as we prepare for our annual celebration of Festa on Pentecost weekend (May 15th). While these celebrations are a wonderful part of our parish history and provide an opportunity to dress up and celebrate cultural themes let us not forget the primary focus of our liturgies and parish events is the Easter Season. Easter is, of course, not just one day in our calendar but is an ongoing celebration lasting through Pentecost. We must always be careful not to let local practices or traditions overwhelm the universal celebrations of the Church. Please keep in your prayers the members of our parish who are preparing for the celebration of First Eucharist (April 16th) as well as those preparing for the celebration of Confirmation (June 5th). To help put some faces to those in preparation we have put together some photo boards which will be displayed in our sanctuary. As we continue to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy I thought I might share with you some brief thoughts on The Spiritual Works of Mercy. The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual wellbeing of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help our neighbor in their spiritual needs.” The seven Spiritual Works of Mercy are listed below. C O U N S E L I NG TH E DO UB T F U L Everyone has moments of doubt in their faith journey. Nevertheless, we should always remember that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and turn to him along our way. I N STR U CTI NG TH E IG NO RA NT Learn about our faith and be open to talking with others about our beliefs. There is always something more to discover about our faith. A DM O N I SH I NG TH E SI N N E R Do not judge, but be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes. Together we can learn to walk more closely with Christ. CO M F O RTI NG TH E SO R R O W F U L Be open to listening and comforting those who are dealing with grief. Even if we aren't sure of the right words to say, our presence can make a big difference. F O RG IV I NG I NJ UR I E S Forgiving others is difficult at times because we do not have God's limitless mercy and compassion. But Jesus teaches us that we should forgive as God forgives, relying on him to help us show others the mercy of God B EA RING WRO NG S PA TI ENTL Y Do not be bitter about wrongs done against you. Place your hope in God so that you can endure the troubles of this world and face them with a compassionate spirit. COMMODITIES The next food distribution will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
