WHY DO WE JUDGE THE ABNORMAL To be normal is to be the same as everybody, so for being different you are seen as a nobody. By different I mean that you are either a handicap or your mental, Everybody says that you are so crazy but inside, you are actually gentle. I bet there is a handicap in the world right now being stared at and teased. He hates it and inside he is saying please, stop that. Well my advice to you my friends to just stay true and just be you, who cares if you’re different because you are you. You’re amazing in every way yet you never have a say. You have your own little swagger and you got your moves like Jagger. You’re beautiful because he made you, In the whom he shaped you. He doesn’t make mistakes, No, it’s not his nature, And if you hate yourself for being ugly then don’t blame the creator. You know God made all of us in the image of him. To be handsome or ugly, to be fat or to be slim. Some of these people go on a wheelchair and they can’t even walk, Some of these people have no arms and they can’t even talk. Yet we judge them. Yes we all go to church and we tell Him to forgive our sins, But right after we just go back to mocking the handicaps face or their skin. You know these people aren’t aliens that is for your information, They are earthly angels and they are Gods creation. Born with an operation, never been on a vacation, never played on a PlayStation. Yes they might have a big head or they might look like a deer, But none of that matters it’s just what’s in here. Barbara has won three medals at the Olympic Games. She talked about all her achievements and shared her journey with us. The main purpose of her story she shared was to spot all the opportunities in life and to achieve your goals. My favourite part was when Barbara showed us a short clip that inspired us to take risks no matter what happens to you get up and keep going until you hit that finish line. This happened with the help of Mr Thompson the head of the Health Department. We would like to thank him for giving us the opportunity to listen to Barbara Kendall. I hope to take her words of wisdom and to use it in my future. This year 37 students studied hard and passed their learner licence so far. The next step will be six months later; these boys can now apply for their restricted licence. Pictured below are a group of students who passed their written learner licence. WELL DONE BOYS. Any students applying for Apprenticeships, NZ Police, Armed Forces or NZ Security are required to have already sat their restricted licence or full licence. Start planning for your future boys. Page 6 De La Salle College Newsletter Cricket The unpredictable weather was always a concern, for cricket and touch this term. The Cricket A team taking out the 8 A-side tournament between Onehunga High, and One Tree Hill. Fast-pace bowlers in the Hakeagatoa brothers, and powerful batting by the boys saw our team demolish Onehunga in their first game. They then took on One Tree Hill, convincingly putting them away also. Well done to Mr Ulu Hakeagatoa’s Junior Cricket, and we plan to put together an 11-aside team for term 1 in 2015. Rugby Our Under 15’s entered the first ever Under 15’s 7 A-side Tournament. They went up against Kelston High in their first game, marginally losing to them. They were successful in the remainder of their games, unfortunately did not manage to clinch the fourth spot for the semi-finals. We would like to thank Mr Andrew Va’a, Mr Stuart Ramsey, and Mr Anthony Brown for the hard work you have invested into our boys, and wish you all the best with the senior Rugby 7’s team at the Condor Rugby 7’s Tournament this weekend. Touch We had enough interest with touch this year from our year 9 and 10’s, so we put two teams into the competition. Our Blue team which was made up of year 10’s and Year 9 Pita Fakaongo, represented our school with pride and determination. The team battled hard with their captain Nevor Lesa running practices while their coaches (Year 13’s) Kaivai Finefeuiaki and Tyson Tanuvasa were absent due to their exams. Proud supporters cheered on the side lines as the coaches called out plays, to see our boys play their way into the top 6. Play off’s within the top 6 saw De La Salle Blue play: Mangere College (1st) 7 – nil loss Papatoetoe (6th) 4 - 7 Win Otahuhu College (5th) 4 – 3 Southern Cross (2nd) 4 – 2 loss loss Kings College (3rd) 3 – 4 Win Our boys finished in the top 4, missing out on regionals this year. Though the excitement is there, and these boys are eager to continue into their senior years, where they will combine with last year’s regional qualifiers to make up our premier touch team. We would like to thank Kaivai Finefeuiaki, and Tyson Tanuvasa for coaching the De La Salle Blue Team. Also thank you to Year 11 students, Brent Tongatea, Villiami Finefeuiaki, and Sean Tanuvasa for coaching our De La Salle Maroon team whom finished 8th out of the 10 teams competing. A huge thank you to Mrs Oliana Tanuvasa whom stepped in as our official in term 1 and this term to referee our games. It is also a delight to attend these events and see the support of not only our boys, but especially our parents. Thank you to all whom supported both our touch teams. Volleyball Junior Our Volleyball this year was like our Touch teams, whom had enough interest to put 2 teams into the Auckland Championship Tournament. Our seeding’s going into the competition were Junior Premier 7 th and Junior A team 26th out of 26 teams. Our boys played with pride and resilience, ending the tournament seated 7th for the Premier Volleyball team, and 20th for the Junior A team. De La Salle could not have achieved as much as we have this year without the support and coaching skills of Fuamatu Nu’uvea (Father of Kosetatino Fuamatu – Year 11). Mr Fuamatu coached our Premier senior team to 2 titles this year: Winning the Southern Zone Division 1 Title and the Auckland Championship title. He also coached our boys for the National Volleyball Tournament held in Palmerston North in March – walking away with fourth place. At the De La Salle Sports Prizegiving Mr Fuamatu was awarded with ‘Coach of the Year’, for 2014. We would like to thank our coaches Fuamatu Nu’uvea who leaves us to focus on the Sparta Men’s Club Team. We thank you for your professionalism, and your belief in our boys. We would like to thank Ms Tauiliili-Lia whom managed our Junior Premier Team, and for her consistent strength to grow volleyball at our school. To our coach of the Junior A team Mr Atonio Siitia (Father of Josiah Siitia – Year 9), whom will take up the position of Senior Premier Coach in 2015, we thank you for believing in our boys, and wanting to further the strength of volleyball here at De La Salle. To Mrs Gloria Salanoa and Mr Tupi Hufanga (Father of Jonathan Tupi – Year 9), for the management of our Junior A team, and services to volleyball at the tournament. Our teams were able to participate with the financial support of ex-La Sallian students Leaupepe Iosefa Va’aga (owner of I Autos Direct Ltd), and younger brother Oscar Va’aga (Owner of Proclean Specialists Ltd – Subdivision of Proservices Specialists Ltd) whom donated funds to each of the teams to reduce the costs paid by parents for the event. Your support was greatly appreciated. Mrs Helen Annafjeh Sports Director De La Salle College “This week Mr Doogan’s fiancé Lorna Hefford presented to 7G and 8G.
