Zó wordt u in ons prachtige vakantieoord gegroet.
„Moin“ is overigens niet de afgekorte vorm van
„Morgen“ of „Guten Morgen“. Het komt eerder uit
het Nederlands en wil zeggen „Mooie…“. Het is dan
ook begrijpelijk dat wij hier in het Ammerland op elk
moment van de dag iedereen begroeten met “Moin”:
“Moin” in de ochtend voor “Goedemorgen”, “Moin”
gedurende de dag voor “Goedendag”, en “Moin” ’s
avonds voor “Goedenavond”.
Wiefelstede is een bezoek waard, er valt van alles
te beleven en wij laten u dat graag op de volgende

Tussen de stadjes Oldenburg en Varel en de gemeenten
Bad Zwischenahn en Rastede ligt de gemeente
Wiefelstede.
Hier leven in totaal ongeveer 16.000 inwoners
(01.01.2014) in een landschap van houtwallen en
bossen waarin de land- en bosbouw, de tuinbouw,
boomkwekerijen, coöperatieve en particuliere
veredelingsbedrijven evenals commerciële en
industriële ondernemingen en het toerisme
belangrijke pijlers zijn voor de lokale economie.
Met haar idyllisch in het landschap verspreide
21 gezellige dorpjes ontwikkelde de gemeente
Wiefelstede zich in de afgelopen jaren tot een populair
vakantieoord. Vakantie in een gezonde en landelijke
omgeving. Met een bos van 800ha groot is Wiefelstede
de meest bosrijke gemeente in het Ammerland. Hier
kunt u – ver weg van het verkeer en de drukte –
door de bossen, weiden, akkers langs kleine beken
op zanderige paden of over met klinkers bestrate
landweggetjes wandelen of fietsen.

In Wiefelstede is fietsen de meest populaire
vrijetijdsactiviteit: Wegen die nauwelijks worden
bereden, wonderschone bospaden en speciaal
aangelegde wandelpaden nodigen u uit voor
recreatieve tochten.
Fietstochten zijn een ideale manier om het
parklandschap alhier in al haar diversiteit te ervaren en
tegelijkertijd iets goeds te doen voor uw gezondheid.
Bezoek eens een rustige plek in het bos, een vismeer
of een strand van een natuurbad, of ontdek andere
interessante oorden in deze omgeving!
U heeft de keuze uit verschillende fietsroutes.
Deze voeren ook door de andere gemeenten in
het Ammerland. In het Ammerland hebben wij 19
verschillende fietsroutes uitgestippeld. Een eenvoudig
nummeringssysteem maakt het gemakkelijk om van
route te veranderen. Uitgebreide informatie hierover

Tips voor routes:
Wandel/fiets mee in Wiefelstede op route 9 – de
voormalige Rhododendronroute – en ontdek de drie
rhododendronparken in het Ammerland. Deze route begint
in Wiefelstede en voert u richting Hollen en Linswege naar
het rhododendronpark van de familie Hobbie. Aann de
2,5km lange landweg door het prachtige parklandschap
vindt u vele bankjes om uit te rusten en te ontspannen. De
fietsroute naar Westerstede gaat verder door het centrum
van het stadje. Hier kunt u een koffiepauze inlassen
voordat u in Bad Zwischenahn-Rostrup de parktuinen gaat
ontdekken. Naast de rhododendrons tonen hier meer dan
90 thematuinen en plantenverzamelingen de fascinerende
kunst van tuinontwerp. Via Gristede - op de terugweg
naar Wiefelstede – passeren wij het Rhodopark van de
kwekerij Bruns. Het rhododendronpark ligt midden in
de Gristeder Büsche. Hier alleen al kunt u meer dan 1.000
rhododendrons en hobby-azalea’s bewonderen, maar ook
verschillende andere heesters. De fietsroute is 45km lang
en in de maanden mei/juni een echte belevenis wanneer de
rhododendrons zich in al hun pracht tonen. Deze fietsroute
kunt u in een weekend doen. Een kleiner alternatief is route
13 van Wiefelstede naar Rastede waarbij u ongeveer 35km
aflegt.

Bloiende pracht en
prachtige tuinen
Het rhododendronpark in Gristede
In het Gristeder Wald aan de weg van Bad Zwischenahn
naar Wiefelstede ligt het rhododendronpark Gristede van
Boomkwekerij Bruns.
De tuin van het rhododendronpark onder beschutting van
hoge dennenbomen werd vanaf 1950 onder leiding van
Erich en Wilhelm Bruns systematisch aangelegd. Bijzondere
aandacht werd besteed aan de aanleg van het parklandschap
en de teelt van rhododendrons. Zij gaven speciale aandacht
aan rhododendrons uit de Himalaya en Japan, die zij door
eigen waarneming reeds kenden.
De kern van de verzameling wordt gevormd door meer dan
1.000 soorten rhododendrons en azalea’s geteeld op koude,
volle grond.
Naast het oudere park werd vanaf 1985 een uitgestrekt
gebied met een prachtige vijver toegevoegd. Chinese
reuzensequioa’s zorgen hier voor veel schaduw. Japanse
esdoorn-, kornoelje-, hazelaar- en magnoliasoorten en
meerdere op zichzelf staande heesters scheppen daarbij een
prachtig plaatje te midden van de fascinerende verzameling
rhododendrons.
Het rhododendronpark is het hele jaar geopend en de
toegang is gratis.

Kneipp- en boerentuinen Gertje
Langs een 100 jaar oude heg van beukenbomen komt u
door een tuinhek in een idyllisch aangelegde tuin van
indrukwekkende grootte (1ha) en veelzijdigheid.
Langs betoverende weggetjes bereikt u via kleurrijke
bloemperken en klimplanten onderbroken door brede
grasvelden een paar zithoekjes met een romantische sfeer.
Op aanvraag vinden rondleidingen plaats.

Hostatuinen in Ofenerfeld
Deze 1.100m2 grote tuin is bovenal een Hostatuin met
meer dan 500 verschillende Hosta’s. De met hun naam
gemarkeerde Hosta’s worden op 5 verschillende velden
geplant. Deze decoratieve sierplanten worden onder
andere gecombineerd met irissen, clematissen, rozen,
rhododendrons of creatief gesnoeide heesters. De tuin
is verfraaid met een visvijver en een uit natuursteen
vervaardigde fontein. Rondleidingen in de tuin zijn
op aanvraag mogelijk of op vastgestelde dagen (zie de

Natuursteentuin Dubiel
Het is zeker de moeite waard een excursie te maken
naar de parkachtige tentoonstelling in Westerholtsfelde.
In het industriegebied “An der Autobahn” toont
Natuursteenhandel Dubiel een zeer uitgebreid aanbod aan
overtuigende ontwerpadviezen en inspirerende ideeën voor
elke smaak en plaats.
Natuursteen paden, zandsteen vloeren en -muren,
bogen, zuilen en balustrades zorgen buitenshuis voor een
zuidelijke atmosfeer. Bij het ontwerp van de tuin worden
mediterrane accenten gerealiseerd met zandsteen banken,
zandsteen bekkens tot fontein- en open haardinrichtingen.
Hoogtepunten worden bereikt door bekoorlijke artistieke
figuren evenals metalen structuren en echte Italiaanse
fresco’s.
De openingstijden zijn van maandag tot zaterdag van 9.00
tot 17.00 uur. Het is absoluut een bezoek waard! De entree
is gratis.

U kunt natuurlijk ontspannen en relaxed van uw
vakantie genieten – maar u kunt ook op een sportieve
manier van uw vakantie genieten. Bent u net zo
moedig als Indiana Jones, dan is een bezoek aan het
klimbos “Forest 4 Fun” hoogstwaarschijnlijk een
absolute must!
Vissen – rust en ontspanning
Sport- en hobbyvissers onder de vakantiegasten komen aan
hun trekken vlakbij Wiefelstede: In deze omgeving staan
privéwateren met een overvloed aan vis tot uw beschikking
en deze nodigen u uit voor een ontspannen visuurtje in
de open lucht en in een rustige omgeving. Er kan in het
vismeer “Almsee” gevist worden. Uw rijke buit bestaat uit
karper, snoek, snoekbaars, zeelt evenals baars en witvis. Een
grillhuisje en een rookkast zijn voorhanden en grillen met
eigen grill is ook toegestaan. Veel vismogelijkheden vindt u
bij ons op kantoor.
Boule / Boccia – rustig een boule werpen
Kent u de Franse sport “boule”? Bij deze sport spelen twee
teams die uit 1 tot 4 spelers kunnen bestaan tegen elkaar.
Het is de bedoeling met een eigen boule (metalen bal)
zo dicht mogelijk bij het butje (houten bal) te werpen.
Het but en de boules van de tegenspelers kunnen daarbij
weggeschoven of weggeketst worden. In Wiefelstede kunt u
deze sport op drie verschillende plekken uitoefenen. In het
dorp Wiefelstede vindt u de Jeu de boules-baan bij de Hof
Kleiberg. Tevens vindt u bij het vakantiepark in Conneforde
aan het Bernsteinmeer en in Metjendorf op het dorpsplein
een baan.

IJsstokschieten – een heel andere sport
In 2004 werd de Wiefelsteder Vereniging opgezet.
In Metjendorf ontmoeten de leden elkaar tijdens de
zomermaanden (april tot oktober) voor het evenement
“Zomer-ijsstokschieten”. Bij het Mehrgenerationenhaus op
Marktplatz 1 meten de liefhebbers van deze volkssport zich
iedere woensdag vanaf
17.00 uur met anderen. Als

Voetbalgolf – in de voetsporen van Ronaldo
en Langer
De voetbalgolfbaan ligt in Wiefelstede-Conneforde. Zoals
de naam al suggereert is dit een belevenis voor groot en
klein, een combinatie van de sporten voetbal en golf. Bij
voetbalgolf moet de bal met de voet (zonder clubs) met zo
weinig mogelijk kicks over verschillende hindernissen aan
het eind van iedere baan in
de hole worden geschoten.
Een rondje voetbalgolf
bestaat meestal net zoals bij
golf uit 18 holes.
Vliegen – zo vrij als een vogel
Co-piloten opgepast: In de gemeente Wiefelstede bevindt
zich een vliegveld voor kleine vliegtuigen. Maak een

Golf – recreatie met flair
Golf zorgt tijdens de vakantie voor uitzonderlijk
vrijetijdsplezier. De Oldenburger Golfclub onderhoudt in
het grensgebied van Wiefelstede/Rastede een schilderachtig
aangelegde golfbaan die ook door gasten mag worden
gebruikt. Golfers zijn voor een rondje op de 18-hole baan
uitstekend op hun plaats. Bovendien vindt men hier een
restaurant en een Pro-shop. Voor gasten met een licentie
voor Duitse golfbanen is de golfbaan na aanmelding het
hele jaar toegankelijk. Lessen zijn op afspraak toegankelijk
voor onervaren spelers. Golfclubs worden voor verhuur
aangeboden en voor individuele- of groepslessen zijn
professionals beschikbaar.
Klimbos –een uitdaging voor groot en klein
In Conneforde tegenover het vakantiepark aan het
Bernsteinmeer vindt u Klimbos “Forest 4 Fun” met 8
verschillende klimparcours. Hoogteverschillen tot 13 meter,
meer dan 60 klimelementen, unieke ongeveer 10 meter
hoge oversteekplaatsen boven het meer, hangbruggen en een
7 meter hoge Base Jump uit de top van een boom zorgen
voor de juiste spanning. De Monkey Tree is nieuw. Hierbij
gaat het om een onafhankelijk klimelement, waar u een
rechtstreekse beklimming van de boom tot 15 meter boven
de grond kunt maken. Vastgesjord in een zelfblokkerend
afdaalsysteem kunt u zelf omhoog klimmen en vervolgens
eenvoudig naar beneden laten vallen. Een absoluut
hoogtepunt voor grote en
kleine avonturiers.
Na de les die iedere bezoeker
moet volgen, kunt u het
klimparcours zelfstandig
met veiligheidsuitrusting
beklimmen.

gaat verder met het “rode parcours” met klimnet, klimwand,
trapeze en een balkbrug. Voor de moedige klimmers met
stalen zenuwen is er het “zwarte parcours” met wakkelige
hangbruggen, de Tarzansprong en de reuzenquirl en
tenslotte een bijna vrije val – een Base Jump van meer dan 7
meter, direct uit de top van de boom.
Natuurlijk komen in “Forest 4 Fun” ook de kleintjes aan
bod: het “lichtblauwe parcours” is ontworpen voor kinderen
vanaf 6 jaar. Kortom, “Forest 4 Fun” biedt gegarandeerd
klimplezier voor iedereen. Het maakt niet uit of je jong of
oud, ervaren of een beginner bent.
Bij sommige klimroutes is er een leeftijdsgrens ingesteld.
Het klimpark is onder begeleiding van volwassenen te
beklimmmen vanaf de leeftijd van 6 jaar.
Belangrijke tip: Draag sportieve en degelijke kleding en
gesloten, stevige schoenen. Sandalen of open schoenen zijn
niet toegestaan.
Nordic Walking in uw vakantie
Wie het liever iets rustiger aan doet kan in Wiefelstede
Nordic Walking proberen. Bij de gewrichtsontzienende full
body work-out worden met de juiste know-how 90% van
alle spieren in uw lichaam aangesproken. Comfortabele
wandelschoenen en -stokken op de juiste lengte zijn
belangrijk.
Bij de lokale VVV is een flyer met de verschillende Nordic
Walking-routes beschikbaar. U kunt echter ook contact
opnemen met de Nordic Walking Gruppe, die op de
volgende tijden op de Ginsterweg bij elkaar komen: in
de zomer op maandagen van 18.00 tot 19.00 uur en in
de winter (vanaf november) op zaterdagen van 10.30 tot

Paardrijden – Hup paardje hup
Gasten die tijdens hun vakantie graag paardrijden hebben
verschillende mogelijkheden in Wiefelstede. Wanneer
u door de velden, bossen of op de baan paard rijdt,
ervaart u zeker puur natuur. Wilt u met uw eigen paard
komen? Dat kan. Er zijn verschillende opties voor stalling,
verzorging en bij paardrijclubs. Bijvoorbeeld bij de Bond
voor Paardensport in Gristede of bij de dressuurclub in
Helle. Op deze boerderijen wordt tevens rijles gegeven.
Buitenrijbakken evenals paardenboxen en paardenweiden
zijn voorhanden. Naast lespaarden zijn er in Gristede en
Helle tevens maneges en renbanen. De Reiterhof Warnken
specialiseert zich in Westernrijden en geeft lessen in deze
tak van sport.

Zwemmen – Zomer, zon en strand
Natuurbad – Vakantiepark aan het Bernsteinmeer
Het 12ha grote natuurlijke meer met glijbaan,
watertrampoline, vlot varen en een springtoren in het
midden nodigt uit voor veel zwemplezier. Het vakantiepark
biedt bovendien talrijke zandstranden om ontspannen te
genieten. Het Bernsteinmeer is de enige recreatieplas met
een vuurtoren en de waterkwaliteit wordt iedere twee weken
gecontroleerd.
In de nabijheid van het meer kunnen kinderen en tieners
zich in het kinderspeelhuis met ballenbad, water- en
zandbak en kleitafels en bij andere attracties zoals beachvolleybal, boule, reuzenschaakbord of tafeltennis uitleven.

Openluchtzwembad Wiefelstede
Van 15 mei tot en met 31 augustus biedt het verwarmde
openluchtzwembad in Wiefelstede zwemplezier voor de
hele familie. Het openluchtzwembad beschikt naast het
zwemparadijs met in totaal zes banen over een groot gazon
voor niet-zwemmers en een kinderbad met een kleine
fontein.
Relaxen op de zonneweide terwijl de kinderen
zich vermaken op de kinderspeelplaats of van de
reuzenwaterglijbaan (lengte 70m, hoogte 7.80m) naar
beneden glijden. Het aanbod wordt afgerond met
duikplanken (1 meter en 3 meter), een onderwatermassagejet, een kleine glijbaan, een beach-volleybalveld, een
biljart- en een tafeltennistafel.
Het water in het zwembad heeft trouwens een aangename
temperatuur van 24 °C.

Zwemmen in Neuenkruge
Het openlucht-zwembad in de deelgemeente Neuenkruge is
in principe geopend van 15 mei tot 31 augustus.
Door de gezellige atmosfeer wordt het bad zeer gewaardeerd
en vanwege de grootte en de overzichtelijkheid is het zeer
populair bij families. Het beschikt bovendien over een
babyspeelbad, tafeltennistafels en een grote speelweide.
Ideaal voor families en waterratten.
Binnenzwembad Swemmbad Wiefelstede
Het binnenzwembad biedt in de koelere periode van het
jaar voldoende plaats om iets voor uw welzijn te doen.
Het Variobecken met zijn vier 25-meter banen en een
beweegbare bodem hebben een watertemperatuur van
28 °C. Drie onderwaterbedden, twee jetstreams, twee
schouderdouches en een onderwater-geiser zorgen voor de
nodige afwisseling. Voor de kleinsten is een kinderbad met
leuk speelgoed om mee in het water te spelen aanwezig. De
watertemperatuur bedraagt hier net zoals in het bad voor
therapeutische behandelingen 32 °C. De relaxavonden in
het Swemmbad gelden voor mensen die op zoek zijn naar
ontspanning inmiddels als een insider tip. De badgast kan in
een rustige atmosfeer met discrete achtergrondmuziek bij een
watertemperatuur van 28 °C het alledaagse achter zich laten
en zijn baantjes trekken. Elke laatste vrijdag van de maand
ook met live muziek, bijvoorbeeld met gitaarklanken.
Voor kinderen en tieners vindt op elke eerste zaterdag van
de maand van 15 tot 18 uur een spelletjesmiddag plaats.
Op deze “Fun & Action Day” staan groovy muziek, veel
speeltoestellen in het water en animatie op het programma.

Skatebaan
Voor de jongere generatie zijn de skatebanen altijd een
hoogtepunt. Hier zijn zij onder elkaar en laten zien wat
zij zo allemaal op rollerskates kunnen. Bij het CASA
Mehrgenerationenhaus , Marktplatz 1 in Metjendorf vindt u
zo’n skatebaan. Een andere ligt bij de scholengemeenschap
Wiefelstede aan de Am Breeden.
Duiken – Een onderwateravontuur
De duiksportgroep Wiefelstede biedt aan alle ervaren
duikers de mogelijkheid in de meren van het Ammerland
te duiken. Hier kunnen lessen voor zwemdiploma C tot
aan het certificaat voor duikinstructeur worden gevolgd.
Hiervoor zijn 15 duikuitrustingen en een compressor te
huur. Degenen die deze
sport eens willen proberen,
zijn hierbij uitgeladen voor
een vrijblijvende gratis

Tennis – Spel, set en overwinning
Tennisfans komen in de gemeente Wiefelstede ook
aan hun trekken. In elk jaargetijde en onder alle
weersomstandigheden kan er worden getennist. Zowel

in het dorp Wiefelstede als in Metjendorf zijn in- en
outdoor tennisbanen, die op afspraak ook door gasten
kunnen worden gebruikt. De buitenbanen zijn van
mei tot september open en op aanvraag kunt u hier
tennisles krijgen. Bij het sportterrein “Am Breeden” zijn
zes gravelbanen en in Metjendorf vinden tennisfans een
tennishal met vier gras- en vier gravelbanen.

Wiefelsteder klimmen plezier
Een weekend in Wiefelstede met zeer sportief programma,
of als koppel of als groep. Klimbos „Forest 4 fun“ is voorzien
van diverse uitdagingen. Acht routes van makkelijk tot
moeilijk zijn ze om uit te kiezen. Toon moed en kracht in de
„paarse hindernisbaan“ met snelvuur stoel of in een „zwarte
parcours“, gevolgd door base jump. Wil je graag Indiana
Jones steken een meer? De „donkerblauw“ hindernisbaan is
100 meter zeereis hoogte van 10 meter voldoet aan deze eis .
Natuurlijk bent u eerder opgeleid door experts voordat het
„4 Fun Forest“ klaar om het klimbos te krijgen! Bent u in
staat om zelfs dezelfde dag voetbal golfen, een verrassing op
u wacht.
Voetbal Golf is een combinatie van voetbal en golf. Met
een „voetbal“ moet je een hindernisbaan te overleven. Het
beschikt over 18 tracks, die je moeten beheersen.

Welcome to Wiefelstede
When you come to our beautiful town for your next
vacation, you will quickly notice that the locals use
this greeting a lot : “Moin.” You might think it could
be an abbreviation for “morning” or “good morning;”
however, the greeting has its roots in the Dutch language and is used in place of the word “moijen,” which
translates into “beautiful” or “magnificent.” Hence, we,
the people of the Ammerland Region, use the greeting
all day long – you will hear “Moin” in the morning to
wish you a “beautiful morning,” throughout the day
in hopes that your day will be wonderful and in the
evening to make sure that you have a “great evening.”
On the following pages we will share with you a few
other tidbits you might want to know about and experience here with us in Wiefelstede. We hope you will

Our Tourist Information Office is located inside our
townhall right across the street from the St, John’s
Church - the oldest in the Ammerland. Regardless of

The community of Wiefelstede is located between the
cities of Oldenburg and Varel and the nearby villages
of Bad Zwischenahn and Rastede.
Our town has about 16,000 inhabitants (census of
01/01/2014). The unique landscape is comprised of
meadows, fields and hedgerows. Besides tourism, the
main pillars of the economy are agriculture, forestry,
gardening, tree nurseries, coop and privately operated
finishing plants as well as retail stores and other
commercial operations.
In recent years, the municipality of Wiefelstede, which
actually comprises 21 small cozy villages nestled
idyllically into a park-like setting, has evolved into a
very popular vacation destination for those who want
to plan their own stays in a healthful rural region.
Forests sprawl across 800 hectares, making
Wiefelstede and its environs the Ammerland’s largest
wooded area. Far from the noise of busy traffic and
hectic ways of life, our region offers you the
opportunity to hike or ride your bike through forests,
meadows and fields alongside rushing brooks on
sandy trails or brick covered roads.

Fun for Bicyclists
Riding bicycles is one of the most popular recreational
activities in Wiefelstede: There is hardly any
motorized traffic on the roads, the forest trails are
breathtakingly beautiful and the special round tour
trails beckon riders to enjoy relaxing excursions.
Bike tours offer an ideal opportunity to experience the
vast spectrum of nature’s diversity in the local park
landscape while also doing something that is very
beneficial for your health.
Head out towards a quiet place in the woods, a fishing
lake or the beach of a natural bathing pool or discover
numerous other interesting destinations in the
vicinity!
The many different bicycle tour routes, which will
also take you through other communities in the
Ammerland, will amaze you – there are plenty of
options to choose from. Overall, the Ammerland
Region boasts 19 distinct signage-guided bicycle trails.
A simple number system will make it easy for you to
switch to different routes. Just stop by our office to pick
up detailed informative publications.

Recommended tour:
Begin your tour in Wiefelstede on Route 9 (formerly
called the Rhododendron Route) and you will be able to
experience three Ammerland rhododendron parks. From
Wiefelstede you will take off in the direction of Hollen and
Linswege to the rhododendron park maintained by the
Hobbie Family. Once you get to the park, you can follow a
circular trail, which stretches across 2.5 km and offers plenty
of benches where you can stop to rest or just linger to enjoy
the park’s beauty. Next, the bicycle route will take you in the
direction of Westerstede and through downtown, where you
might want to grab a cup of coffee before you discover the
Garden Park in Bad Zwischenahn-Rostrup. Here you will
not only find magnificent rhododendrons, but also more
than 90 themed gardens and plant collections chockfull of
fascinating gardening art. On the way back to Wiefelstede
you will pass through Gristede, where we recommend
you stop by the Rhodopark maintained by the Bruns Tree
Nursery. This rhododendron park is located in the heart
of the Bushes of Gristede. Here you will have a chance to
admire more than 1,000 rhododendron and outdoor azalea
plants as well as a variety of woods. On this bicycle tour
you will travel 45 km. In the months of May and June it
is a breathtaking adventure as the rhododendrons are in
full bloom. Spend a weekend exploring the sights on this
bicycle tour. If you are looking for a shorter alternative, we
recommend Route 13 from Wiefelstede to Rastede, which
spans about 35 km.

Flowering splendor and
beautiful gardens
The Rhododendron Park in Gristede
One attraction you will find alongside the country road that
leads through the Gristede Forest from Bad Zwischenahn to
Wiefelstede is the Rhododendron Park Gristede maintained
by the Bruns Tree Nursery.
Erich and Wilhelm Bruns took the initiative to
systematically cultivate rhododendrons in the shade of
tall pine trees in 1950. They focused in particular on the
development of a park and the growing of rhododendrons,
especially those native to the Himalayas and Japan, which
they had a personal passion for.
More than 1,000 different species of rhododendrons and
outdoor azalea plants make up the core of the collection.
Besides the older parts of the park, work to enhance
vast portions of the terrain with a wonderful man-made
pond began in 1985. Chinese mammoth trees provide
plenty of shade. Japanese maple and Cornelian cherry
trees, witch hazel and variations of magnolia paired with
other decorative specimen plants introduce additional
eye-catching highlights amid the fascinating collection of
rhododendrons.

Kneipp and Farmer’s Garden Gertje
Amid a 100-year-old beech hedge you will find a garden
gate, which will lead you into an enchanted, well maintained
garden. Its size is quite impressive as it covers a full hectare.
The diversity of the landscaping is fascinating.
You will walk on mysterious garden paths through colorful
flower beds and sprawling greenery, interspersed with vast
lawns to cozy sitting areas while your eyes feast on romantic
garden elements.

Hosta Garden in Ofenerfeld
This garden, which covers an area of 1,100 m2 is first
and foremost a Hosta garden as it is home to more than
500 different Hosta plants spread across 5 different fields
marked with name labels. These decorative leafy plants
are planted in combination with irises, clematises, roses,
rhododendrons or topiaries. A fishpond connected to a
creek and a foundation made of natural stones also adorn
the garden. Guided tours of the garden are available by prior
appointment or on specific days (see event calendar).

Natural Stone Garden Dubiel
An excursion to the park-like exhibit in Westerholtsfelde is
certainly also a worthwhile undertaking. Located in the „An
der Autobahn“ (By the Interstate) industrial park, Natural
Stone Distributor Dubiel offers a diverse blend of rock solid
design advice paired with inspiring ideas for every taste and
location.
Thanks to natural stone pathways, natural stonewalls,
archways, pillars and balustrades, the ambiance at this
retail location is definitely Mediterranean. Those who are
interested in introducing Mediterranean elements into their
own garden designs will find plenty of options here ranging
from fountain or fireplace ensembles to sand stone benches
and troughs. Other highlights include artfully cast statues
and metal works but also genuine Italian frescos.
This venue is open Monday through Saturday, 9.00 am to
5.00 pm. Stopping by will be worth your while – admission
is free.

Here you will be able to enjoy a completely stress free,
relaxing vacation. However, this does not mean that
you have to rest on your laurels as we offer plenty of
options for those who want to exercise, participate in
athletic and sports activities. If you are an adventurer
like Indiana Jones, you definitely will have to visit the
“Forest 4 Fun” climbing forest!
Fishing – Peace and Relaxation
In the vicinity of Wiefelstede, there are plenty of spots where
fans of sports and recreational fishing will find everything
their hearts desire: privately owned bodies of water amply
stocked with freshwater fish are at the disposal of anglers and
beckon them to spend many exciting hours out in the fresh air
where they can recharge their batteries in the most peaceful of
settings. Among the popular fishing venues is the “Almsee,” a
lake where you can bring in a magnificent catch of carp, pike,
perch, tench as well as bass and whiting. A grilling cabin and a
smoker are provided on location, but you can also bring your
own grill to barbecue. For more information on other fishing

Boule / Boccia – Enjoy a Relaxing Ball Game
Are you familiar with the French/Italian ball game called
“Boule/Boccia?” It’s a team activity: Two teams play against
each other; each team may have 1 to 4 players. The objective is
to move one’s own ball as close as possible to a target ball. It is
permitted to move the target ball as well as the opposing team’s
ball by nudging it or push it out of the way with another ball.
In Wiefelstede boasts 3 courts where you can give this game a
try. In downtown Wiefelstede you will find a boule court near
the Kleiberg Farm, the other two are located in the northern
and southern part of the community in the vacation resort in
Conneforde on the Bernstein Lake and in Metjendorf on the
Village Square.

Curling – A Very Different Sports Genre
The Curling Association of Wiefelstede was established in 2004.
During the summer season (April through October), members
meet in Metjendorf for “Summer Curling Activities.” Every

Soccer-Golf –
In Ronaldo’s and Langer’s Footsteps
The Soccer-Golf Facility is located in Wiefelstede-Conneforde.
It’s a fun place for young and old and as the name indicates,
it offers a combination of soccer and golfing fun. Soccer-Golf
requires players to transport the ball into a hole at the end
of each stop using their feet (the use of golfing irons is not
permitted). The objective is
to do this in as few moves/
kicks as possible while
overcoming a variety of
obstacles. Just like on a
traditional golf course, a
soccer-golf round usually
comprises 18 holes.
Spread Your Wings – As Free as a Bird
Attention all co-pilots! The community of Wiefelstede does
have an airport for lightweight planes. Enjoy the thrill of a
plane ride high above the vast terrain in Conneforde or a
breathtaking flight across the

Looking for a Hobby with that Unique Flair?
Golf is the Answer
Playing golf while you’re on vacation is a unique pleasure. The
Golf Club of Oldenburg operates a course nestled into beautiful
landscapes on the boundary lines between Wiefelstede and
Rastede. The course is also open to guests. Since this is an
18-hole tournament course, golfers will find everything their
hearts desire at this facility – even a restaurant and a proshop. Guests who have a course-ready handicap have access
to the golf course year-round once they have registered. Trial
programs for beginners are offered by appointment. Loaner
irons will be provided; trainers are available for individual or
group practicing sessions.
The Climbing Forest – Swing from Tree to Tree
In Conneforde, right across from the vacation resort on the
Bernstein Lake, is the “Forest 4 Fun“ climbing forest, which
offers 8 different climbing stations. Thanks to equipment that
stands up to 13 meters tall, more than 60 climbing elements,
one-of-a-kind lake crossings at elevations of about 10 meters,
hanging bridges and a base jump from a height of about 7
meters from the treetops, the experience you will enjoy here
will be nothing short of enthralling. The MonkeyTree is a new
addition consisting of a single climbing element that allows you
to climb the tree directly all the way up to the top, which means
you will be 15 meters above ground. You will be hooked up to
a self-securing roping device
that will allow you to climb
to any height you choose and
then simply let yourself drop
down. This is a most thrilling
highlight for adventurers of
any age.
Once you have completed the
orientation session, which is
mandatory for every visitor,
you will be permitted to
explore the climbing stations
on your own using your own
safety equipment.
The following options are
available for you to try: The

easier “green round,” which features a tree trunk climbing
challenge and a hanging bridge or the “blue round” consisting
of the giant ladder, Neapl bridge, Tarzan jump, riveting lake
crossings and a Cacadu ladder. There is also the “red round,”
which comprises a net climbing challenge, climbing wall,
trapezoid and bar bridge. For those who dare and have nerves
of steel, there’s the “black round,” which features a nightmare
bridge, Tarzan jump and giant whirl. It ends with a virtual free
fall challenge – a base jump from a height of 7 meters, straight
from the treetops.
The “Forest 4 Fun” does of course also offer options for very
young guests. The “pale blue round” is designed specifically
for children who are 6 years of age and older. To sum it up,
the “Forest 4 Fun” is a venue where everyone will enjoy
climbing – guaranteed – regardless of their age, experience or
inexperience.
There are age limits for some of the climbing challenges.
Climbers have to be at least 6 years of age and minors have to
be accompanied by adults.
One important piece of advice: Make sure you wear tear
resistant clothing suitable for sports activities as well as closed,
sturdy shoes. You will not be permitted to climb in sandals or
any type of open footwear.
Vacation Activity: Nordic Walking
If you want to engage in a gentler form of exercise, we
recommend you try the discipline of Nordic Walking while
you are in Wiefelstede. This whole body athletic exercise is easy
on the joints, but requires you to move 90 % of your body’s
muscles – provided you use the proper technique. Also, please
make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and use sticks
of the correct length.
Come to the Tourist Information Office to pick up a flyer on
the different Nordic Walking routes in the region. Of course
you can also join the Nordic
Walking Group, which meets
at the Ginsterweg at the
following times: During the
summer season, Mondays
from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm; in
the winter season (starts in

Horseback Riding – Equestrian Adventures
For guests who would like to spend time with horses while
they are on vacation here, Wiefelstede offers several options.
Trail rides on horseback through the fields, forests and open
countryside will give you a chance to enjoy the purity of
nature. Would you prefer to bring your own horse with you?
If so, a number of boarding facilities with equestrian facilities
or horseback riding
clubs are available for
your convenience. Two
of the providers are
the Equestrian Sports
Association in Gristede
or the Riding Club in
Helle. These farms also
facilitate riding lessons.
Outdoor riding arenas, stalls and paddocks are on hand. Both,
Gristede and Helle have indoor riding arenas as well as race
tracks; school horses for beginners are also available at these
two locations. Riding Stable Warnken specializes in western
horsemanship and offers related riding lessons.
Local services will be pleased to organize and conduct carriage
as well as coach tours for adventurers and tourists by special
arrangement.
Swimming – Summer, Sun, Beach Life
Natural Bathing Lake –
The Vacation Resort on Bernstein Lake
If you like the water and swimming, the natural bathing lake,
which covers an area of 12 hectares and boasts a slide, water
trampoline, fun raft and jumping tower in its center, is a dream
destination for you. The vacation resort also offers numerous
sandy beaches where you can relax and enjoy the great
outdoors. Bernstein Lake is the only man-made lake that also
has a lighthouse.
The quality of the water is checked in bi-weekly intervals.

In the immediate proximity of the lake, children and
adolescents always have lots of fun at the Children’s Playhouse,
which offers a ball-throwing pool, a water sand sludge area and
other attractions, such as beach volleyball, boule, giant checkers
and ping pong tables. A true paradise for those who want to be
active on land or in the water!
Wiefelstede Public Outdoor Pool
Every year, from May 15 through August 31, the heated public
outdoor pool in Wiefelstede offers fun times for the entire
family. Besides the six-track Olympic size swimming pool, the
facility offers a large pool for non-swimmers and a children’s
paddling pool with a small fountain.
Relax on the tanning lawn while your kids enjoy the
playground or the giant water slide (70 m long, 7.80 m high).
To make the day fun for
everyone, the pool also
offers jumping towers
(1 and 3 meters high),
submerged massage
nozzles, a small slide, a
beach volleyball court, a
pool billiards table and a
ping pong table.
By the way, for your
comfort, the water
temperature in the pool never drops below 24 °C.

The outdoor pool in the district of Neuenkruge is open every
year from May 15 through August 31.

This pool is very popular with locals thanks to its familyfriendly atmosphere. Its size and easy to navigate structure
make it a favorite with families. This pool also offers a baby
paddling pool, ping pong tables and a large meadow where
children can play. The perfect place for families and pool
enthusiasts.
Indoor Pool Swemmbad Wiefelstede
During the colder seasons, the indoor pool offers ample space
to do something that will benefit your overall wellbeing. The
Vario pool with its four 25-meter tracks and moving base
boasts a water temperature of 28 °C. For soothing treatments,
guests have at their disposal 3 submerged lounges, 2 jet streams,
2 shoulder-massaging showers and a submerged geyser.
Toddlers and small children will enjoy the children’s paddling
pool with fun water toys that will allow them to burn off plenty
of extra energy. The water temperature in the children’s as
well as the therapeutic and exercise pool is 32 °C. By now, the
option of spending a relaxing evening at the Swemmbad, is
quite popular with insiders. The calming atmosphere and the
subtle music in the background allows pool guests to leave
their everyday cares behind as they enjoy the comfortable water
temperature of 28 °C while they swim from one end of the
pool to the other. Every last Friday of the month, the pool also
offers live musical entertainment, presented – for instance - by
guitarists.
An afternoon of games is hosted on the first Saturday of each
from 3 pm to 6 pm exclusively for children and adolescents.
The program on these “Fun & Action Days“ includes hot music,
lots of fun equipment in the water and animation exercises.

Roller Skating Rink
Skating rinks have once again established themselves as
attractive venues for the younger generations. They are a place
where young people can be amongst people of their own
generation and demonstrate their roller skating talents. One of
the skating rinks is located near the CASA Multi-Generations
House, Marktplatz 1, in Metjendorf. Another one can be found
by the Wiefelstede School Complex Am Breeden.
Diving – Underwater Adventures
The Wiefelstede Divers’ Sports Club offers all certified divers
the opportunity to dive in Ammerland Region lakes. The club
also offers courses for everything from the basic certification
to the diving instructor’s certificate. A total of 15 loaner outfits
and one compressor are available for these purposes. Nondivers who just want to try whether the discipline is something
they’d like to engage in are
invited to participate in a
free trial diving session; no
commitment required. For

Tennis – Game On, Match Ball, Victory
The municipality of Wiefelstede is also the perfect destination
for tennis fiends. It is possible to play tennis any time of the year
no matter what the weather is like.

Indoor and outdoor tennis facilities are available in downtown
Wiefelstede and in the Metjendorf sub-division. Visitors are
encouraged to make prior arrangements with the operators to
use these facilities.
Tennis lessons are also offered; prior appointments are required.
The outdoor courts are open from May through September. Six
ash covered outdoor courts are located near the “Am Breeden”
sports complex. Metjendorf boasts an indoor tennis facility
with four courts as well as four outdoor ash covered courts, all
of which are accessible to visiting tennis enthusiasts.

Wiefelsteder climbing fun
A weekend in Wiefelstede with very sporty program , whether
as a couple or as a group? Climbing forest “Forest 4 fun”
features various challenges. Eight trails from easy to difficult
are they to choose from. Show courage and strength in the
“purple obstacle course“ with rapid fire chair or in a “black
parcours“ followed by base jump. Want to like Indiana Jones
cross a lake ? The “dark blue“ obstacle course is 100 meters sea
crossing height of 10 meters fulfills this requirement.

Wiefelstede: Enjoy the pure cool air which travels to
our region from the North Sea in the winter. Walking
and hiking trails beckon visitors to explore the
landscapes and Mother Nature. You might just happen
to see some deer as you hike along the 8-km-long
Rehweg (Deer’s Path) in the direction of Mansholter
Büsche. Numerous hedgehogs and even foxes may
be visible in the quiet parts of the countryside.
Wiefelstede – a place where nature is still very much
alive.
Are you longing to recover from your stressful and
busy lifestyle? Do you want to take the bicycle out for
a ride or go for a hike? Can we talk you into trying our
famous green cabbage after a long stroll through the
woods? If so, the package we have to offer would be
perfect for you. It includes 2 nights’ accommodations
including a green cabbage dinner, admission to the
Swemmbad and coffee service at the Museum Café.

Bowling Fun in Wiefelstede
Spend a carefree weekend at a hotel in the countryside. Your
stay in Wiefelstede will be relaxing and fun, regardless of
whether you travel with your club or a clique of friends.
Program Schedule: Friday:
Arrival/check-in, welcome, a scrumptious dinner will be
served in the evening.
Saturday:
Enjoy a hearty breakfast; we recommend excursions into the
vicinity in the morning.
In the afternoon, visit the Museum Café to enjoy coffee and
cake. In the evening, participate in a bowling competition.
The winner will receive the „Wiefelstede Gourmet Basket.“
For dinner, you will be served a house specialty and after
you have eaten, just enjoy the rest of the evening in a cozy
atmosphere.
Sunday: A big breakfast will be served to prepare you for your
journey home.
