History behind the Charity Challenge
2016 will be the thirteenth year since The Charity Challenge Golf Days were introduced to the Corporate
Golf market by its founders Gary Dawson OAM and Matthew Laverty.
The purpose of these days was to support a key group of smaller charities each year and highlight the
services and the roles they play in the community that perhaps don’t receive the high public profile or
adulation.
What Matt and I experienced was many charities calling and asking for our support. The support we
could provide 50 charities was limited. However, when we decided to help 10 in the beginning and now
extending to 15 we found we could provide a much better result and introduce these charities to many great
organisations like yours.
All the charities that are supported by the Charity Challenge Golf Series have either been as a direct result
of contact from the charities direct via Smokey or Matt.
Or have been introduced by supporters and sponsors who felt these charities would benefit from our
support. In the 9 years we have run these events and the Charity Challenge Gala Ball we have netted in
excess of 6 Million dollars.
Its been through the great support of individuals and companies like yours that have made these events a
true success
What has been the most pleasing aspect of all these events is the friendships and business links that have
been forged through the support of businesses such as yours.
Matt and I always believed that it was paramount for the Charity Challenge to be a success ,we had to
ensure players were getting value for money.
Our philosophy has not changed over the past thirteen years and we will continue to endeavour to improve
our service and golf experience for all competitors in 2016.
Another two Charities we have supported as a result of our very good friend Evan Fraser who recently
passed away were Hearts in Union and the Classic Wallabies.. It was because of Evan input this event got
off the ground and in 7 years the event has netted in excess of $200K

proud to be associated with such an important Charity as the Hearts in Union Rugby Foundation.
Hearts in Union have done an incredible job in vastly improving the lives of Rugby players who have suffered
a severe spinal injury during a rugby game. The Classics value this wonderful partnership which builds in
strength every year.
Importantly the Golf Day also gives due recognition to Shawn Mackay who died tragically while on tour with
the ACT Brumbies on the 6th April 2009. Teams on the day compete to win the Shawn Mackay Memorial
Trophy.
This year we will also play in memory of our great mate Evan Fraser who typified the spirit of a great club
man. The Rugby Club that has the best score of the day will play for the Evan Fraser Cup
We would encourage all our members and supporters to get behind the 6th Hearts in Union Charity Golf Day
on the 4th March 2016.”

The Charity Challenge Golf Day Series
7am Registration at the selected Golf Club where staff will take players bags. They can provide
pre-booked hire clubs and hire shoes if necessary. Carts included at all venues for our
sponsors.

Welcome & Event Run Down – Various Formats from 4 Ball & 2 Ball Ambrose Events, Teams
Stableford and American Foursomes
7.50am Players move to their allocated tees
8am Shotgun start, play commences
(available on course: beverages and light snacks from the Drink Carts)
12:30pm Players return and freshen up
1pm Lunch – presentation of prizes

2016 Charity Challenge Corporate package:
$12,000.00 inclusive of GST includes will include 8 Teams of Four and signage at 8 Charity Challenge Events during 2016.
Or you can nominate to have two groups of 16 at two events or even better have 32 players at one event.
Obviously ,if you intend to use all 32 in one hit it would be wise to check with Matt and I to ensure the event isn’t full. If
we get enough notice we will do our utmost to accommodate your organisation.
Lastly your corporate package will give you a Table of 12 people at our end of year Charity Challenge Gala Ball held at
The Hilton Hotel
