Mini Maker DIY Hack Camp
Ages 7-11
For more information, call (510) 790-5546
As a Maker or a Hacker, young people will have fun learning to
‘hack’ a solution to a problem or make a fun craft using odds-andends of common household objects, duct tape and other fun things.
Have you seen the Rube Goldberg contraptions that make something happen? A Rube Goldberg apparatus is a deliberately overengineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task
in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. We
are going to look at some basic machines and techniques (like an
animal trap or a toaster) and figure a way to improve it. Everything
will be safe and well thought out as we will engineer that into the
solution. Bring a snack, lunch, and water. Registrants may enroll in
Extended Care at the Central Park Teen Center from 8:00-9:00AM

Young Riders Camp
Take part in two valuable camps when you enroll in full day camps
which combine two fun, back-to-back camps from Code for Fun!.
Parents maintain peace-of-mind by dropping children off only once
for an extended period of time so students can learn coding and
skateboarding. After rocking it with skateboarding, let’s use the afternoon time to learn computer science fundamentals and solve puzzles that real engineers solve every day. Don’t delay on this fantastic
opportunity. See individual descriptions on page 31 for more information. Registrants may enroll in Extended Care at the Central Park
Teen Center from 8:00-9:00AM. See page 38 for more information!

Follow Me Robot
Ages 7-12 NEW!
How would you like to build a robot that has four built-in microphones? It will detect the sound source and in turn it will move and
turn accordingly. It is your own robot to build and take home. Wow!
It starts flashing and plays Do-Re-Me. Make it move the way you
want it to move. It is so smart. It will move in its own routine if it
does not get a signal in 1 minute. It will go to sleep if you do not
issue any commands in 90 seconds. However, you can wake it up.
Learn about the different gears and sensors as you build it. Get to
build other robots working in groups. Join in our Sumo wrestling
and obstacle course events with what you have built. See everything happening as you build. That’s the Sciensational way!

30 different projects and experiments are built with your own electronic kit to keep in this hands-on workshop. The Science Electronics Lab will stimulate kids’ minds by using easy to understand
experiments to increase their knowledge of electronics. Science
project ideas will come alive as they build the 30 projects while
working with Electronic Circuits. The electronics kit is reusable.
Have fun designing your own projects once you’ve built all 30. Kids
can proceed at their own pace. Each participant will keep: an 80
page manual, 1 solderless circuit board, 12 resistors, 2 capacitors, 2
light-emitting diodes, 2 transistors, 1 battery snap, 1 diode, 1
speaker, 1 timer, 1 photocell, 1 rectifier, 1 potentiometer, and 1

Hover Craft - Design Your
Own Vehicle - Egg Drop Car!
Ages 6-11 NEW!
Do you want to design and build things that you create- not just a
model you purchase? Well this is the place for you. Build and keep
an air powered Hover Craft. You make it defy gravity. Once it’s up
and moving, then using your creativity, control its direction. Get to
build and take home your own car. The purpose is to build a super
car powered by more than one source of energy. This can be one
crazy looking vehicle. We provide you with many materials for that
dynamic vehicle that you will build. Also get to build a Egg Drop
Car. The purpose is to build a gravity vehicle that can cushion a raw
egg as the car holding the egg is dropped from a high height. We
provide you with the material to cushion the fall. You have to be
creative. In these three challenges in one workshop, you will learn
about Laws of Motion, Energy, Air Pressure, Friction, Lift, Speed and
Acceleration. You are never to young to learn and have fun in a Sciensational hands on way.

been kept a secret from you. You will experience the thrill of discovery, much as prospectors did. You will be able to identify each one.
Your specimens are in a hard clay material the same as prospectors
found. You will have to get them out without breaking or scratching them. That’s not that easy. You will get an excavation tool, specimen brush, log book, sorting trays and labels. You will, as a
Prospector, record the color, both wet and dry texture, and its ability to float for each of the 10 specimens you dig out. Make an educated guess with our help to whether each one is a rock, gem, or
fossil. See how good you are. You will learn from us the exact name
and classification. We give you hands-on science...Prospectors style
- fun - educational - exciting!

Bootstrap teaches algebraic and geometry concepts through computer programming (Racket Code). At the end of the camp, students
have a complete workbook filled with word problems, notes and
math challenges, as well as a video game of their own design,
which they can share with friends and family. Students will also
learn image editing in order to personalize their characters in the

fun photography tips and tricks, interacting with other shutterbugs,

tools, exploring your camera’s focus mode and focus areas, and experimenting with lighting and flashes. Each attendee must have access to a functional digital camera. Nothing too fancy, but we
recommend a point and shoot camera with some manual capability
to maximize the photography experience. Instructor will make his
best effort to monitor the careful use and safekeeping of all cameras, but some risk remains.

Behind the Scenes Theater Camp is all about what goes into a play
before it begins and what happens backstage. Students will learn
about stage orientation, help build props and backdrops and learn
how to make set changes. The projects that the students work on
will be used in a summer musical theatre camp later in the summer. It will be displayed on the last day of camp for friends and
family to see what they have accomplished in just one week of
camp! Bring water and snack with you to each day of camp. You
may get paint on yourself so make sure to wear old clothing and
shoes. See you there!
