THE SHELTER WAS ON HIGH ALERT BECAUSE OF HER PARTNERS THREATS ON THEIR LIVES MOST OF THE TIME SHE WAS AT THE SHELTER. HER 2 CHILDREN REALLY CONNECTED WITH 1 OF OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM WORKERS. ONE OF THE STORIES THAT MATI AND LEA SHARED WAS THAT THEY WERE VERY ANGRY – THEY LOVED THEIR FATHER BUT HATED HOW HE TREATED THEIR MOTHER AND EACH OF THEM & THAT THEY FELT LIKE A FAILURE, LIKE THEY HAD FAILED THEIR MOM & EACH OTHER BECAUSE THEY COULDN’T KEEP THEIR FAMILY SAFE. THIS FROM 11 & 13 YEAR OLD CHILDREN… CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE. 75% OF ALL CHILDREN WHO WITNESS ABUSE IN THE HOME WILL BECOME PERPETRATORS OR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE THEMSELVES. THE ONLY TIME THIS CHANGES IS WHEN THERE IS AN INTERVENTION, THE CHILDREN REALIZE THAT WHAT THEY HAVE SEEN BETWEEN THEIR PARENTS IS NOT A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP, IS NOT A RELATIONSHIP TO SEEK FOR THEMSELVES.
