domestic violence and help those in need.
News from our Executive Director
Collect Items
Visit our website and view our shelter wish list under the Donations tab. If you belong to a group, consider collecting a few
items from this list on a monthly or quarterly basis depending on the size of the group. Of course you can also collect these
items individually. Get some friends together and have a fun reward for the person who collects the most items by a certain
target date. Do I hear free dinner?
Adopt a Room
Our shelter has so much traffic in and out on a daily basis. Many of our rooms are in need of some tender loving care. We
would love to have volunteers who enjoy cleaning and/or interior decorating that can help create a home atmosphere of
tranquility and peace.
Plan a Fundraiser
This does not have to be anything elaborate – from as simple as a bake sale to a fashion show or wherever your creative ideas
take you. The proceeds from your event can be designated to our shelter or transitional house.
Include your Kids
One of our church supporters had a birthday party for his daughter and instead of the guests bringing presents, they were
asked to bring needed items for our shelter. Kids can also donate items specifically for another kid their age at the shelter –
something they would appreciate having themselves if they had to leave all their belongings behind.
Community Education
We encourage you to take an active role in our community by helping to create awareness on domestic violence. Help us
reach churches, civic groups, businesses and other agencies with information on available resources, safety issues in the
workplace and ways to help someone who is in an abusive relationship.
Donate
Make a financial contribution to Promise Place on a one-time, monthly or yearly basis. This is a great way to help support the
operations of our shelter. Our shelter is a 24/7 operation and our costs include utilities, food, maintenance and client needs.

News from our Shelter
We have had a house full of children all summer,
and are always wanting to know about programs
that they would enjoy that are free. Please let us
know if you know of any.
One of our shelter’s biggest goals is to have the
carpet in the shelter removed and then laminate
or hardwood flooring installed. We would be
extremely appreciative if any organizations knew of
people who would be willing to do this for us.
School is in session so our current wish list
includes:
We have started a great project called Revival
Wrap. We partner with an independent artist who
brings small balls of material that the residents can
choose to braid. For each braid, they receive one
dollar. It has helped women feel empowered,
connect to each other, connect to their children, and
earn their own money that they have control over.

News from our Legal Advocates
We would like to formally introduce Tamia White as the new Fayette Legal Advocate. Tamia, a native of Chicago, Illinois,
migrated to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 9 with her family. Recently married, she is the proud mother of two wonderful children
and three wonderful step children. Tamia received her early education with the Atlanta Public School System and is a recent
college graduate from Shorter University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services. Proving that it is never too late to set a
goal and achieve it, she will be attending Graduate school to obtain her Master’s degree in Social Work. Tamia is very active in
her faith community and desired to turn her passion for helping others into a career. With over 20 years of experience in the
banking and finance industry, Tamia White joins the Promise Place family in pursing her passion in helping others and helping
them in their journey of becoming self-sufficient. One of her favorite quotes is, “Always treat others how you want to be treated,
because everyone has a story.” Welcome, Tamia!
Research indicates that financial abuse occurs in 98% of abusive relationships. At the same time, survivors often report that one
of the top reasons for staying in or returning to an abusive relationship is concern over their ability to provide financially for
themselves and their children. Because understanding the basics of credit and how to manage debt are important to helping a
survivor work toward economic security, the advocates will be receiving training for “Helping Survivors Navigate Credit and Debt
Issues.” Topics for the training include how to access and interpret a credit report and score, how to improve credit, how to
manage and pay off debt and the pros and cons of various debt resolution methods.
The advocates will be attending several community events this month. Please stop by our table for valuable information at the
following locations:
 Tamia White will attend the 5th Annual Prevent Childhood Abuse Day event on Saturday, August 2nd at Fayette County
DFCS from 10AM - 2PM. This fun-filled event will include: a balloon artist, face painting, games and prizes, moonwalk, slide,
fire truck, petting zoo, pony rides and information on community programs, services and resources to build stronger families.
 Tammy Bradberry will attend the 2014 Back 2 School Bash on Saturday, August 2nd at the Griffin City Park from 11AM 2PM. This fun and free event will offer school supplies, food, activities and information on community resources.
 Sara Perdue will be attending the annual Share It Forward Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 30th at the Pike
Community Memorial Building from 9AM - 10:30AM. The event provides school supplies to students in need.

Promise Place is excited to announce three of our upcoming fundraising events!



On September the 13th, from 3PM - 7PM we will be holding our 2nd Annual Dove Shoot at Walker’s Farm in Pike County.
On October the 3rd, from 5PM - 8:30PM, we will be hosting our annual Run From Domestic Violence 5K Run/1 Mile
Walk at Drake Field in Peachtree City.
On October the 11th, at 9AM, we will be holding our first Run the Ridge 5K/10K in Meansville, GA.
If you are interested in joining us for any or all of these three fabulous events, or if you would like to help us out with these
