If you would like to make a difference for those experiencing domestic violence, our 24/7 crisis hotline is a perfect place for you to become involved! Our crisis hotline volunteers are trained to offer support, resources, and guidance to both victims and survivors of domestic violence. If you would like to volunteer with our 24/7 crisis hotline, please call (770) 461-3839 X 112. Together, we can spread awareness about domestic violence and help those in need. News from our Executive Director At Promise Place we are so thankful for all the many lives that we are able to touch through our various services, our staff and volunteers who are committed to our mission, and our donors and supporters within this community who allow us through their giving to carry out our mission of preventing domestic violence. So far this year we have seen 81 women and 76 children come though our shelter. We received 1,409 crisis calls from individuals seeking relief from domestic violence through shelter, counseling, legal advocacy or emotional support. As we quickly approach the holiday season there are several opportunities to get involved whether it is preparing a meal for the shelter, adopting a child for Christmas, helping to organization donations or sponsoring our upcoming Christmas Gala which will be our final fundraiser for the year. On behalf of our board and staff, we wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving. Tone attended our 2nd Annual Improv show, “Promise You’ll Laugh” at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone on a Friday night, and began volunteering with us the following Monday. Tone began helping us out with our Youth Enrichment Program at our shelter on Wednesday nights, and then began with our 24 hour crisis line, and teen dating violence prevention education. Tone also served on our donor appreciation event committee that we hosted. Tone was born in Lillehammer, Norway, and began working for Pan American World Airways. She was relocated to Florida where she met her husband of 36 years, and ultimately landed in Peachtree City, Georgia. She and her husband have two children, Erik, and Ingrid, and two grandchildren. Tone has so many amazing stories and experiences that she shares with us about her time as a flight attendant with Pan American, even the fact that she was a Pan Am Lady, with the white gloves. Tone also volunteers with the Fayette Samaritan’s, considering herself lucky to help out the community in so many different ways. When Tone is not volunteering, she enjoys cooking, being in nature, and reading. We are thrilled to have Tone as a volunteer with Promise Place! Wendi Bozeman Volunteer Coordinator @ 770-461-3839 ext. 112 News from our Legal Advocates We would like to formally introduce Sonya Nicholson as the new Pike and Upson Legal Advocate. Sonya was an assistant teacher with the state of GA Pre-K program from the time it developed in 1993 until she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Child Development and Education and began teaching herself. She decided to go back to school because she wanted a bit of a change. Her desire was to continue to be involved with the human issues of those that many face on a daily basis in which she observed throughout her career as a teacher. With God’s help and blessing, she received her BA in Psychology with Honors from Ohio Christian University. Sonya feels that God has opened a door to her to be a part of Promise Place and being a small part of helping a person when he/she feels the need for help, makes her day. She is encouraged to move forward through God and in helping others. She may even go back and get those last six classes she needs in order to obtain her substance abuser counseling license. Welcome Sonya! Tammy Bradberry Senior Legal Advocate Page 3 A special thank you to Greyson and Jennifer Emory for their donation of books for the ladies/children of Promise Place! We know that our client’s will thoroughly enjoy all of the great reads! Dennis Scott and some members of the Southside Riders installed a new custom built cabinet in our kitchen at the shelter as well as a double oven unit. A reliable oven had been much needed for our families to cook in and thanks to this team everything is working great! We are so fortunate to meet amazing people who give of their time and resources to help others in need. Thank you Southside Riders! Promise Place was invited to speak at Fayette County High School's Girl's Empowerment Movement Club meeting, and we are beyond humbled! These young ladies spoke openly about teen dating violence/domestic violence, and were very receptive to all the information that we provided to them. Seeing the younger generation being involved with the community, and issues at hand warms our hearts! Thank you GEM members, and we look forward to next time! Page 4 Panasonic Automotive recently renewed their Annual Sponsorship agreement with our organization. Pictured are members of the Charities Committee team. We thank them for their contribution of $15,000 which included a digital camera for use by our domestic violence advocates. It is wonderful to see a business that takes an active role in combating the societal issues going on within our community. Yamaha Golf Cart company presents a check at the Flat Creek Niners golf tournament. A special thank you to the Thomaston Rotarians and their donation for the children at our shelter! It is because of organizations like these that we are able to help those dealing with domestic violence. Thanks for all you do! A huge thank you to the Flat Creek Niners Golf Club and corporate sponsor Yamaha Golf Cart Company for raising a total of $8,641 for our program! What a great group of people that we had the privilege of meeting.
