After last years successful trip with Dr Hans Örnhagen to Curacao, we have decided to repeat this holiday. This trip is a combination of diving on tropical reefs and a thorough guide of diving in medicine, health and lifestyle. Hans Örnhagen is a well known authority on diving medicine and is also the club doctor for SSDF. Hans will have interesting lectures during the trip, including topics such as: Health requirements and obstacles for diving, equalization and adaptation to pressure, inert gas, dive tables and dive computers, development and treatment of decompression sickness, injury panorama and accident statistics and Oxygen in diving accidents. The group will stay together in Lions Dive Resort on Curacao in the Caribbean and will have the opportunity to do a lot of diving on the amazing coral reefs in the area. Lions Dive Resort

Curaçao has much to offer for divers, especially beginners, and among divers, is very similar to her more well known sister island, Bonaire. The best dive sites are located to the west of the island, and forty out of the islands sixty sites are located not far from shore and are therefore easily accessible. Curacao offers both boat and shore diving. One of the islands best dive sites is the wreck of the Superior Producer, a seventy-­‐metre long boat that has been resting on the seafloor for the past thirty years. A glide through Curacao´s signature reef dive -­‐ Mushroom Forest -­‐ is not easily forgotten. Mountainous star coral heads in no more then 20 meters of water have been eroded at their bases, sprouting mushroom-­‐like. This lush coral garden is tended to by loads of shelter-­‐seeking fish. In 1977, the 200 ft Superior Producer just set sail for Columbia when her cargo shifted, and she took on water and sank. Situated upright, between 20 and 40m, you´ll find three decades´ of sponges and coral growth, as well as loads of fish. Curriculum (in Swedish)

I can say from the start that although I have had a CMAS dive certificate for over 40 years, I am not a big diver. On the other hand, I have spent my entire adult life involved with diving medicine, dive medicine research and eductation in the subject. I am currently the club doctor for SSDF (Swedish Sport Diving Federation), and since 1977, I have been involved with educating the Swedish Navies dive doctors. Since 1999 I have held two week courses in the Maldives, in diving medicine for doctors according to the EDTC curriculum. I have written several books on the subject, where I have condensed what I have felt was the most important compenents that a doctor should know about diving medicine. Some of my recents titles have been "Diving medicine and hyperbaric physiology," which came out in 2011. Now that I am retired, I spend a great deal of my time learning about historical stories of diving, but I still continue to be a consultant within the dive medicine field.
