Hello TOA,
We are facing some tough times, but as a club that has
been around since 1949, we have had our share of ups
and downs, just like any organization. We as a board are
working with Metro Parks to resolve the bridge issue.
Unfortunately it is in worse shape that what was first
known. The main supports for the bridge are rotten and it
is a danger for anyone crossing the bridge with a tonnage that exceeds the
rating, and it is not at the required height regulation. It is not as simple as a
repair the bridge, it has to be torn down and removed then replaced with a
new bridge that will have to meet the current regulations. Engineering plans
will have to be drawn up, reviewed and approved by the Rail Road. Since it
is crossing a busy Rail Road the time that it can be worked on is very
limited, nights and weekends because the tracks have to be shut down to
work on the bridge. We would like to say this is a going to be a quick fix,
but it will not be, and we are asking you to hang in and go the distance.
Metro Parks has waived the lease payment for 2016 to try and help us
through this period. However we are still facing expenses, insurance,
utilities, and taxes. They still have to be paid. The membership has faced
issues like this in the past, and because of the commitment our members
have made in the past, we are still around today. We need to stand
together and have patience. When this is fixed and we can access the club
again we are going to appreciate what we have so much more. We have
faced issues like this before and come through stronger.
We still have many events coming up, our Spring Camper Cruise to Maple
Grove Resort in Randle March 18th-20th, and the Big Rig Bike Ride on
March 12th. There is some dance April 2 that promises to be a good time
because Jr Past Commodore Joann Mills and her Captain Ron are hosting
it at Day Island Yacht Club and Don’t forget the Daffodil weekend April
15th-17th come down and cheer for your trivia team in your best Fun in the
Sun attire, or volunteer to join the trivia team and help them guess that
music and then Sunday vote for your favorite decorated float boat on
Facebook. And a whole summer of fun activities.
We cannot control the wind but we can adjust our sails.

Hello to TOA
The Daffodil marine parade is getting closer. The Daffodil weekend is Apr 15th-17th. Everyone is
welcome to attend all or just part of the festivities during the weekend. If you plan to bring an
RV or your boat to the event you will need to go to the Tacoma Yacht Clubs website at
www.tacomayachtclub.org and click on the Daffodil 2016 tab to register your RV or boat. You will
need to get your reservations in quick. The RV spots are filling up fast. I d ask that you also let
me know if you will be bringing an RV or a boat. On Friday night there will be a lottery drawing
for the token and the team seating. This year there will be prizes for best costume, team spirit
and bribes. I will be there for the drawing. The bribes will only be given during the first round.
This year’s trivia contest will consist of 2 rounds of music from the 50’s to the 00’s and 1 round
of marine pictures. I am still looking for a token to lead the parade and the team of 6 for the
trivia contest. If you are interested please let me know. I will be setting up our first boat
decorating meeting on Sat the 19th of March down at A&E Automotive. My plan is to fund this
event with donations from our membership. Donations will include funds for the daffodils we will
need a total of $220.00 to purchase the minimum amount, also a thank you basket for the
owners of the boat house that we will be using at TYC, and various materials for decorating. If
you would like to help out please let me know.
Boating safety, spring is right around the corner. So that means it is time to start at all the safety
gear on your boat IE life jackets, fire extinguishers and flares. Make sure your batteries are in
good condition and if you have a marine radio and GPS make sure they are working.
See you on the water

SPRING CLEAN UP MARCH 12, 2016
Spring is in the air and boating season is just around the corner, I have a project
that needs some help from our members we will be removing all of the remaining
docks so the don't get damaged during our closure of the club we also still need
to clean up our area to help make it look good we will be doing a work party on
March 12th starting at 8:00 am, until when ever in the afternoon I would plan on
bringing either snacks or a sack lunch as we have no way of cooking we will
have the BBQs if interested. You will still get points for the clean up for boating
family so don't forget.
Bring weed eaters and blowers and push brooms. Push mower if you have
