GRACE NOTES
Notes from Mother Jean…
January 2016
writes in his second letter to the
Corinthians:
It’s here! Or nearly
here, depending on
when you get this
newsletter! 2016!
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a
new creation: everything old has
passed away; see, everything has
become new! All this is from God,
who reconciled us to himself
through Christ, and has given us
the ministry of reconciliation; that
is, in Christ God was reconciling
the world to himself, not counting
their trespasses against them, and
entrusting the message of
reconciliation to us. So we are
ambassadors for Christ, since God
is making his appeal through us;
we entreat you on behalf of Christ,
be reconciled to God. (2
Corinthians 5:17-20)
Don’t you just love
the New Year? Everything is, well,
NEW! We get to start again. A do-over.
A brand new slate on which to write all
those things we’re going to get right this
year. All those resolutions. All those
plans. It’s a brand new day!
Except, as we all know, it doesn’t exactly
work like that. Sadly, on January 4th, we
still have to get up and go to work in the
cold, ashamed of the crabby thoughts
we’re having about those of us who are
retired. And all those resolutions, well,
they might last a little longer than the
Christmas tree, but not by much. I
usually never bother making them at all.
This New Year I am making a resolution
after all, and one I hope, with God’s help,
to keep. I am resolved to be a better
ambassador for Christ among you, in our
community, and in the world. Who’s
with me?
But lest you think me a Debbie Downer
(Google Saturday Night Live videos from
2004 – hilarious!) I have some good
news! We ARE made new! Every year
at this time we celebrate the birth of our
Savior, and commemorate that great
event that changed the world forever –
God becoming man, and in the process,
recreating us all. As the Apostle Paul
I wish you peace, love, health, and joy in
the New Year!
