Competition Motostudent is a challenge between university engineering student teams among Spain and other European universities. It consists of designing and developing the prototype of a competition motorcycle. It also involves the creation of an industrial project to manufacture 500 motorcycles a year with a maximum budget of 4500 Euros per unit. Currently, as required by Dorna Sports (MotoGP organiser), the prototype will use a 250 4T engine. Using such engine will adjust the competition to the current category of the worldwide Moto3. The competing universities will meet in sessions that will take place at Motorland Aragon. Oven these sessions, the teams with prove their technical development regarding innovation, creation and development. The competition is both promoted and developed by Moto Engineering Foundation (MEF). This organisation promotes the technological development in the motorcycle sector in the lines of research, technical practice and training. These are the companies that support this organisation 2 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Outstanding businesses in the motorcycle sector also contribute to Motostudent with the supply of a basic kit with the basic elements needed for the design and development of the motorcycle. 3 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Who are we? Motostudent Unizar In the third Motostudent edition, the team representing the University of Zaragoza is made up of 15 students enrolled in the industrial engineering and degree of mechanical engineering from the University of Engineering and architecture. Francisco Moreno Gómez, Professor of the Univeristy of Zaragoza, who belongs to the Area of Machines and Heat Engines, supervises such Project. Motostudent Unizar aims to implement and develop our expertise to design, fabricate and compete with a motorcycle, representing our University and Autonomous Community on the international scene. It is an ambitious and complex project that lasts for two years. Over this time, students will receive complementary training and will face the business world with seriousness, commitment and motivation. Also, this competition will Foster values that are needed in the current world of work such as teamwork, management and optimization of resources, organizational capacity, selfimprovement, respect and personal effort. In this third edition, the team members will continue the work carried out by colleagues from this project previous editions, trying to improve the results achieved and establishing the team as one of the most competitive ones in the competition. It is worth mentioning that it is not just an illusion but also a reality in which great results have been reached not only in competition but also in many end of career projects. This is made possible by the means and support offered by the University, state organisations, private companies and Vocational Training centres. Motostudent Unizar Team 4 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Background For this new edition of the contest, we rely on the experience and support of the teams that represented the University of Zaragoza in previous editions. In the first contest there were two teams, which resulted in the first and third positions. The first represented the school of Industrial Engineering and the third to the Centro Politécnico Superior. 1st Edition Team (EUTIZ) 1st Edition Team (CPS) In the Second Edition, the University presented a unique team that was created after the unification of both centres at the School of Engineering and Architecture. After holding a second position during the race, the team achieved the fourth place crossing the finish line just two tenths of a second after the second qualified team . 2nd Edition Team In both editions we obtained a great success, achieving the values and expectations that the competition wanted to convey. However, these good results would not have been possible without the support and financial contribution of Aragonese businesses, which were deeply impressed by the impact that won over both competitions. 5 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR The sponsors in the previous edition were: 6 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Areas of expertise The team is divided into different areas devoted to certain specific aspects of the motorcycle, so a greater specialization can be achieved. Members of the group take part in different areas; they will work cooperatively to achieve together the main target. Some teammates will work on the geometric definition of the bike, design of the chassis and axle, they will also work the modelling of the suspensions. Equally, they will start the engine, measure the exhaustion pipe and manufacture the components. Finally they will carry out the industrial project with the economic, feasibility and development surveys. The whole of this project will be the result of the application of the knowledge acquired in the classroom and tools used during the race. Likewise, there will be a joint collaboration between the University and vocational training centres creating a link between them. Vocational training students will put into practice those skills learned helping the team manufacturing the prototype. 7 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR WORK SCHEDULE In order to achieve satisfactory results in the contest, a schedule has been designed including deadlines for milestones to reach. These are the stages: I. Team creation and registration. II. Search for sponsorship and justification of sponsors. III. Design development and simulation. IV. Design finishing and prototype manufacturing V. Trial and bike adjustment. At the same time as the bike is being developed, the team will appear publicly in the media to inform about the state of the project. They will also use these public appearances to thank the support given by different organisations. The contest will finish with the real competition at Motorland Aragón Circuit. At this stage the following aspects will be assessed: Prototype test according to the regulations. Presentation of the industrial project: design, measuring, development and manufacturing. Test bench. Race in track. 8 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Join our team Benefits and impact Previous editions had a great significance and media coverage in the region; this was highly favoured by the location of Motorland circuit in our autonomous community. Many media echoed the participation of different teams, such as: Antena 3, Aragón TV, Cadena Ser, Aragón Radio, Heraldo de Aragón and El Periódico de Aragón. Similarly, numerous fans in motor world and politicians enjoyed the event in the circuit. We are fully aware that in order to achieve this project we need more than our will, sacrifice and work motivation, we also need also economic investment or in kind donations that will help us cover the costs for the implementation of the project. As in any other business, it is essential to get enough funding that will allow us to achieve the proposed objectives. Therefore, anyone is welcome to be part of our team and believe in a joint project. In exchange, we can offer advertising for your company through these media: Impact on newspapers, radio, television and social networks. Posters both at University and the team box. Parties and celebrations such as the team presentation. Customised clothing for public appearances. Advertising on the motorcycle. 9 MOTOSTUDENT UNIZAR Sponsoring Motostudent Unizar team will gets you advertising for two years at a lower expense than conventional advertising. Moreover, supporting the University and joint programmes with vocational training centres, which are responsible for the manufacturing of the bike, will provide not only with economic benefit but will also improve your business image by investing in future professionals. Thanks to your cooperation, we will be able to position Aragonese industry and engineering on the international scene, since both project and motorcycle are completely made in our autonomous community.
