A Message from your President…
The Ocean City Center for the Arts was humming with lots of activities this summer and it’s hard to believe an-
other season is upon us already. The ALOC partnered with the OC Recreation and Parks to bring art camp activ-
ities to over 170 children during the months of July and August. Not only did the kids enjoy creating paintings, sculptures, jewelry and more, but their parents and grandparents were also introduced to our beautiful new facility.
Then, over 50 painters from as far away as California swarmed in for our “Paint OC Paint Out”, a plein air event. If you missed the wet paint sale and the quick draw sale on the boardwalk, be sure to drop into the gallery during September to see how they captured the Ocean City area scenery. Thank you to Emily Schwab and her committee who worked hard to make this a great experience for the artists.
As we think “fall”, I hope you will enjoy visiting 10 fabu-
lous homes that are lined up for the 9 th annual Sand Cas-
tle Home Tour on September 19-20th as well as the kickoff cocktail party on September 11th at the home of Jim and Jan Perdue. If you haven’t made your reservations there is still time. This is the ALOC’s main fundraiser which will now be used for operating our wonderful new facility. It is exciting to see all the interest in new classes and workshops, including a dramatic pick-up in art sales and committees are lining up schedules for the coming year. Do you have some extra time on your hands? Consider volunteering to be a home tour or gallery docent, class assistant, library organizer, reception server, work on a committee or become a board member. We need all kinds of volunteer talent to accomplish our mission. Don’t wait to be asked, give us a call!

WHO’S WHO IN THE ART LEAGUE— Jamie Albright September
Carl Forsberg
October
Marian Bickerstaff
Jamie Albright, one of our new board members, grew up in Niagara Falls, NY, working with her father in the tourism industry - that means working all summer, and being de-
pendent on the weather and the vacation needs of the typical American family. After college, she was anxious to move away from small town life and go to a big city. She moved to Washington, DC, had a career in the retail in-
dustry and later met her husband, Jeff, who lived and worked in the tourism industry in Ocean City. Jamie found herself moving back to a tourism-oriented small town and loving it! Jeff and Jamie have lived in Caines Woods for 27 years, and have a son, Adam. Jamie is very involved with her business at Planet Maze and Lasertron at 33rd Street. She also works with the OC Chamber of Commerce and other local committees in helping to bring more visitors and viability to Ocean City.
Since joining our board, Jamie uses her talents in fundraising and special events. This is her 4th year co-chairing the Sandcastle Home Tour Cocktail Party, which is grow-
ing bigger every year. “I am excited to see the Art League and the Center of the Arts gain a wider audience,” says Jamie. “I think, as people see this center become a reality, they want to be a part of it. And it is not just a place for paintings, but for pottery, theater and music in Ocean City.
Jamie likes to play mahjong and tennis, and travel;; she is looking forward to a river cruise in France, after the sea-
son, of course.
~ Stasia Heubeck
MEETING ROOM SPACE AVAILABLE The new Ocean City Center for the Arts has multi-purpose meeting rooms available for group rentals, as well as the outside courtyard and grove areas, and the entire gallery for larger functions. Call the ALOC for details.

Adventure Camp
A highlight of summer for the Art League is always our children’s art programs. This year the building was filled with the joy of kids making art for four weeks, during Art Adventure Camp. One hundred seventy-three children ages 5-13 participated in the program. The camp was held in partnership with the Town of Ocean City Recreation Department, which han-
dled the registrations and provided the t-shirts, goody bags, and awards. Art Adventure Camp was held at the new Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th Street. The daily activities included a variety of projects, such as: painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber arts, clay, jewelry making, and sculpture. The kids got a chance to make their own felt, build sculpture out of ordinary materials like cereal boxes, tooth picks, and paper clips;; learn coil and slap clay techniques;; and express themselves through their artwork. Each four-day ses-
sion concluded with an art reception featuring their work.
The counselors were accomplished teachers Kathi Ste-
vens, Natalee Palmer, and Angela Pierce, and they were assisted by Monika Lilley and Katie Rosinski. Some of the children had participated in previous years and had been part of the “fish project,” an installation art piece on display at the Art Center. Others signed up for one week and enjoyed it so much they returned for subsequent weeks. Thanks go out to the guest art-
ists and volunteers who came out and assisted: Barba-
ra Doyle Schmid, Stasia Heubeck, George Hamaty, Re-
becca Morgan, Elizabeth Galloway, Sharon Hilty, and Betty Everson. Our gratitude to OC recreation supervi-
sor Al “Hondo” Handy, who has been inspiring young people in Ocean City for 33 years and to Kate Gaddis for her help coordinating the camp. Mark your calen-
dars for next year’s Art Adventure Camp and be sure to check out the new Ocean City Center for the Arts for year round art classes for kids and adults.
