Throughout the Bulldog Family Weekend, please do not
hesitate to stop by the Joe Frank Sanderson Center. The
“Sanderson” is the campus recreation facility. The facility
provides approximately 150,000 square feet of recreation
space. This space includes 2 Gymnasiums, 1/8 mile jogging
track, 8 racquetball courts, 500,000 gallon indoor swimming
pool, recreation room with table tennis, strength & aerobic
conditioning room, rock climbing wall, and 3 aerobic/dance
studios. The Sanderson is open to all family members who are
participating in Bulldog Family Weekend. As you enter the
Sanderson you will supply your nametag which will grant you
access. As a family member you will have to sign a waiver to
enter the facility. All accommodations will be open to you as
a participant of Bulldog Family Weekend. The Sanderson has
locker room and shower facilities. For more information please

Dance Marathon
February 26 / 6:00 pm / Newell Grissom Building
Ready to dance your socks off with your student, all for a good cause?
Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and
high school students at more than 400 schools across the country,
all raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in
their community. The yearlong fundraising event culminates with a
night where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games
and entertainment in celebration of the total amount raised that year.
Mississippi State’s Dance Marathon will benefit Le Bonheur Children’s
Hospital in Memphis. Registration, donations and more information

Celebration of Black Art

The Black Student Association and Black Voices will be collaborating
to host an evening of poetry, monologues, singing, & dance. This
event is free of charge.
Starkville Arts Walk
The Arts Walk is a self-guided walking tour starting in the Cotton
District through downtown Starkville. Visit businesses that feature
the work of local artists in their stores. You can also visit historical
buildings and neighborhoods, the community theatre, and farmers

The most photographed area in the community and a model for “New
Urbanism,” this district was formerly a collection of row houses and
shanties associated with the neighborhood cotton mill. This district is
now filled with award-winning, brightly colored buildings evocative
of Savannah, Charleston and New Orleans.

The city’s earliest identity as “Boardtown” disappeared with the
sawmill and boardwalks, but Starkville has kept the flavor and
character of its “boomtown” years around the turn of the 20th century.
Well-preserved churches and the 1925 Hotel Chester (on the National
Register of Historic Places) add character and charm.
Nash Street Historic District
MSU scholars and staff members built this neighborhood, Starkville’s
earliest subdivision, in Tudor-Revival, bungalow and craftsman styles,
dating from the 1930s and 1940s.
Greensboro Street Historic District
The cotton-hauling wagons that negotiated “Greensboro Road” to
the Tombigbee River were gone by the time Starkville’s prosperous
merchants and professionals made Greensboro Street the address of
choice for their Victorian, Tudor-Revival, bungalow and craftsman
homes from the 1860s through the 1930s.
Overstreet Historic District
These houses, built close to downtown and to Overstreet School (circa
1894), form Starkville’s largest historic district. Homes range from
ornate Queen Anne to mid- 20th century craftsman and bungalow
styles. An occasional cook’s house or smoke house can be seen behind
the main houses and are reminders of another era. The district is
bordered by Washington Street to the west, Wood Street to the south,
South Montgomery to the east, and Hogan Street to the north.
Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge

The 48,000-acre Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, located 13 miles
south of Starkville, is home to bald eagles, as well as alligators, redcockaded woodpeckers, bobcats, and wild turkeys. Both hunting and
fishing are allowed, and birdwatchers, hikers and photographers can
enjoy numerous nature trails and observation points there, as well.

BASEBALL FUN FACTS
Dudy Noble Field, Polk-Dement Stadium
Dudy Noble Field was built in 1967 and is one of the premier
venues in college baseball. Over the years Dudy Noble has
been nicknamed “The Dude”. Adjacent to The Dude is the
Palmeiro Center. The 68,000-square foot floor complex serves
as an indoor practice facility for both baseball and football.
Dudy Noble has served as the site of four SEC tournaments,
three NCAA District III tournaments, 12 NCAA Regional
Tournaments and one NCAA Super Regional.
Left Field Lounge TM
Left Field LoungeTM is home to some of the most highly prized
seats at Mississippi State baseball games. Beyond the outfield
fence you can find trucks, motor homes, and trailers that are
equipped with barbecue grills, plenty of seating, and food
and drinks for all. What began as a popular gathering spot for
students in the 1960’s, has transformed into college baseball’s
largest tailgate. Sports Illustrated dubbed Left Field LoungeTM
as, “#1 place to watch college baseball”.
First Round Draft Picks
First round draft picks have been a common occurrence over
the years at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have produced 12
first round draft picks, most notably Will Clark and Rafael
Palmeiro (1985), and most recently Hunter Renfroe (2013).
Bulldog All-Stars
Mississippi State has had eight former players play in the Major
League All-Star Game. Jeff Brantley, Will Clark, Sammy Ellis,
Dave “Boo” Ferriss, Buddy Myer, Rafael Palmeiro, Jonathan
Papelbon, and Bobby Thigpen are all former Bulldogs who
have made an appearance in the game.
Bulldogs in the Big Leagues
Fifty-two former Diamond Dawgs have played or coached at
the Major League Level. Current Major League players are:
Ed Easley (Pirates), Kendall Graveman (Athletics), Jacob
Lindgren (Yankees), Jonathan Papelbon (Nationals), Tyler
Moore (Nationals), and Mitch Moreland (Rangers). Current
coaches are first base coach Chris Maloney (Cardinals),
Bobby Thigpen (White Sox) and 2014 American League
Manager of the Year Buck Showalter (Orioles).

Attendance Records
The Dude is home to the NCAA record for on campus
attendance. 15,586 fans attended a 6-5 win against bitter
rival Ole Miss on April 12, 2014. The 2007 Super Regional
set a record for the top two all-time highest attended Super
Regional games with 12,620 and 13,715 fans.

WHO ARE THE ALUMNI DELEGATES?
The Alumni Delegates program is an organization that serves as a liaison between Mississippi State University students and alumni.
Their purpose is to improve the understanding of the role of the Alumni Association by educating and involving students in activities
and events of the Association. Student involvement will help foster lifelong relationships while continuing to maintain the Alumni
Association’s mission. Alumni Delegates are today’s student leaders preparing to be tomorrow’s alumni leaders. Thirty-five students
