Inserting the battery

The LEICAZ2Xis powerdd by a 3 volt Lithium battery (e.g. CR123).To insert the battery, open the battery compartment cover
(20)by pushingin the directionof the arrow.

pole facing forward as indicatedin the battery compartment;close the cover until it

Checking the battery
Switch the camera on (see p. 7). The protective lens cover then automatically
opens and the lens (12l' moves to the
,,ready" position. lf the symbol 4i-- ap-
lf the lens does not move into the ,,ready"
position,whenthe ON/OFFbutton is pressed, the batterymay be low, insertedincorre c tl yo r m i ssi ng.
Also, after a series of exposuresin close

Changing the battery
When there is a film in the camera,insert
a new battery immediatelyafter removing
the old one. lf the camera is left more
than 10 minutes without a battery, the
f rame counter in the LCD data panel resets to ,,1" when you insert a new battery, regardlessof the number of pictures
taken.
Attention.' Keep battery-contactsclean. Do
not dispose of used batteriesby throwing
them into an open fire; do not try to recharge, break open, disassembleor heat. Do
not disposeof used batteriesin normalhousehold garbage, as they contain toxic
wastes that are dangerousto the environm e n t . R e t u r nt h e m t o y o u r l o c a ls u p p l i e ro r

you switch off the camera when it is not
used for long periodsof time in order to
extend battery life.
Switching the camera'' onloff
To do this, press the ,,ON/OFF" switch
(3). The protective lens cover opens, the
lens extends to the ,,ready" positionand
the LCD data panel(9) displayappears.
When the camera is switched off all displays disappear,the lens returns to the
transportpositionand the lens cover cloSES.
When the camerais not used for aprox.5
minutesafter being switched on, the data
panel display and the camera electronics
are automaticallyturned off. The lens is

4. Close the camera QFck The camera
switches on and the''/'filmadvancesautomaticallyto the first frame. The camera is ready for the first exposure

H o w e v er ,if t he , , 1" fl a s h e s , th e fi l m
has not been loadedproperly.
Reopenthe back,removethe film and reinsertit as describedin sections2 to 4.
Setting the focal length
The button to select the focal length
(zoom selector,2) operateslike a seesaw.
Pressing ,,f" (tele) on the right of the
roc$pi causes the lens to zoom to longer
focdl' lengths. Pressing ,,W" (wide-angle)
on the left of the rocker causes the lens
to zoom to shorterfocal lengths.
Holding the camera
To avoid camera shakg,, hold your LEICA
Z2X as shown in the photographs.Also
c h e c k t h a t t h e l e n s , f l a s h ( 1 0 ) ,a u t o f o c u s
sensors/auxiliary
light (6,41and exposure
meter window (11) are not inadvertently
coveredby your hand, the carryingstrap,
etc.
For verticalformat photographs,ensurethat
the flash is always at the top as lighting
f rom above produces a more natural
rmpresslon.
It is also advisablewith verticalformat photographyto use the thumb to press the
shutterreleaseto minimizecamerashake.

pressureon the shutte'freleaseto indicate flash readiness.The red LED flashes and the shutter releaseis blocked
when the flash is not yet ready. Flash
recycling time with f resh batteries is
about 5 seconds.

For photographswhers the main subject
matteris off-center:
lf the subjectthat is to be sharplyfocused
lies outsidethe autofocusframe, the focus
memoryfeatureshouldbe used.
Holdingthe camerato the eye, point it at
the subject matter so that the most important portionsto be in focus are insidethe
autofocusframe.Now lightlypressthe shutter.,release button to pressure point. fhe

Using the focus memory feature is also
usefulwith difficultautofocussubjectssuch
as structureswhich do not presenta substantialsurfaceon which to focus, low-contrast subjects in front of similar backgrounds or subjectsthe structuresof which

With portraits photographedusing flash,
an undesirable,,red-eye" effect is possible, when the flash is reflectedfrom the
retina of the eye directly to the camera.
