CSRA MUSTANG CLUB
AUGUST, 2013
From the President
Don Blackstock
Summer is out..School is In.
Where did it go? Back in the day - way, way back- we did not return until Tuesday after Labor day. August and
school in the same sentence, just does not sound right.
Hope everyone can make it to our August meeting. We have BIG NEWS to announce!
Mike Anchor has stepped up to the plate and will be our show chairperson, and Matt Hunter has also
expressed an interest in working along with Mike to make our show more successful.
They will be reaching out for volunteers at our meeting; it takes everyone to make it happen.
Our Evans Home Depot Show will be September 28th. Originally, we planned on having it on the 21st. We saw
that several shows were planned on the same day, and we decided that we would benefit more by moving ours
back to the 28th. Once again, we will be donating our show funds to Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Augusta Harley-Davidson will be having a bike/car show July 27th. 11-4pm Registration begins at
8:30-10:30am. If you are going please contact Mike Anchor or Matt Hunter as we need to pass out our show
fliers.
Time is running out, don’t forget to make your plans for the Mick Yard Show.
See ya at the Grill.
"The Road Goes On Forever and the Mustang Party Never Ends!!"

Mike Sez:
I took a few days off and went to Mustang Week with my son, Zane. We went to the drag races at Darlington
Dragway prior to heading to Myrtle Beach for the weekend festivities. While at the drag strip, we witnessed a
93 Cobra that appeared stock, blow the doors off of a Coyote 5.0. If I recall, the Fox Cobra ran the 1/4 mile at
126 MPH. That was the fastest time we saw. Impressive.
While at Mustang Week, we entered the 2012 Mustang in the annual show. I’ve heard reports that there were
600 cars in the show. It was packed! There were tons of vendors and sponsors, and Mustangs galore (and
LOTS and LOTS of volunteers!). Thanks to the cleaning efforts of my personal car detailer, we came home
with an “Award of Excellence.
I spoke with a representative of Steeda Motorsports. While talking with him, I found out that there was a
plant in Valdosta, GA (who knew??). I asked him if they gave tours, and much to my surprise, he said that
they did. I’m thinking “club ROAD TRIP!!!” I also encountered Dan Neve. Dan had an awesome Shelby GT500
that was adorned with “Cruise for a Cause” logos. I thought that this was a Ford sponsored car, but I found out
that it was Dan’s personal vehicle that he uses to promote his charity. He had a very interesting story. You
can visit his website at www.cruise4acause.org to check it out and to purchase raffle tickets, t-shirts, and
other items to help support his cause; Breast and Prostate Cancer research. Dan was a great person to talk
to, and his cause is worth supporting if you are able.
A large contingent of Foxes gathered for a cruise on Saturday. I think there were 136 cars that cruised to the
mall for the yearly Saturday Cruise-in. James and Jarod Aldridge participated in the cruise. A fun time was
had by all, and we enjoyed hanging out with the Aaron’s at the House of Blues on Friday night. Aaron drove
his sleeper Coyote-powered Galaxie to the beach. I’m sure he toyed with a few Stangs while there.
Please mark your calendars for Sept. 28. That is our show. I, along with Matt Hunter, were tricked into being
Show Co-chairmen. I learned that I should have NEVER asked what being a show chairman entailed;
inquiring gets you volunteered around here! Having said that, I already have people in mind to head up a few
things. If you are wondering what you can do, never fear, Matt and I will find something for you to do! We
need you to pitch in if you can. We will discuss the show at the meeting. Please think about where you’d be
willing to help.
At last month’s meeting, a motion was made to amend the cost of dues. The request had to be made in writing,
and Fred Hartenstein sent an email requesting the change to the by-laws. The request/motion was to permit
the increase of membership dues from $10 for MCA members to $15 and non-MCA members from $20 to
$25.
See y’all next week!
WELCOME BACK!!!!!

Ford News & Notes
Saleen’s Flagship 351 Mustang Enters Production
Last week Saleen Automotive announced it had finalized the merger of the original Saleen Autosport with founder
Steve Saleen’s more recent SMS Signature Cars project. The company also revealed that it was sitting on a pile of $3
million in fresh investment.
Part of that investment, Saleen said, would go to fund the development of a new generation of supercars as well as
electric cars.
While it’s great to see Saleen diversifying into more segments, we’re also glad the company hasn’t forgotten its roots.
In a follow-up announcement, Saleen revealed that production of a new generation of its flagship 351 Mustang had
begun at its plant in Corona, California.
First announced at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and then previewed in prototype form at April’s Fabulous Fords
event held in Buena Park, California, the latest Saleen 351 Mustang looks to live up to the reputation of its
predecessors: delivering extreme performance.
The latest 2014 Saleen 351 Mustang is Saleen’s most extreme Mustang to date, in fact. In keeping with its name, the
vehicle features a 5.75-liter (351-cubic inch) V-8, which is supercharged to the tune of 700 horsepower and 655
pound-feet of torque.
An intercooler and high-flow fuel injectors make sure the engine runs fine, and a number of forged internals should
mean longevity. A six-speed manual is standard and is fitted with a high-performance clutch and lightweight flywheel.
The final gear ratio is 3.73:1.
To ensure the car handles well, a custom suspension setup is installed, along with 20-inch wheels, 14-inch brakes with
four-piston calipers, and a downforce-generating body kit.
The interior also receives a number of special elements including two-tone leather and Alcantara trim, Saleen door
sills and a serialized dash plaque.
All this can be yours for a very reasonable $82,634. Saleen also provides a 3 year/36,000 mile limited warranty on all
its products.

Low Mileage Cobra R Hits Auction
The 1993 SVT Cobra R is one of the rarest Mustangs ever built with just 107 produced, so it’s not very often
that one comes up for sale. A pristine example will be up for grabs next week, though, at Auction America’s
California sale in Burbank. Lot number 474, the car has been a part of two collections over the past twenty
years, and amazingly has amassed only 600 miles during that time. As you might guess, the car is in
immaculate and original condition. It will cross the block at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport on
Friday, August 2nd.

Rumor: 2015 Mustang Being Built with
Right Hand Drive?
This shouldn’t be super surprising. The Mustang is destined to be a world car after this model ends, so it makes sense that
they’ll also be building right-hand drive models. At least, that’s the word from Automotive News.
The UK and Australia are the two big markets that this’ll serve. I predict it’ll do especially well in Australia, purely due to
Ford abandoning the Falcon down there. A pony car isn’t going to make up for the loss of a RWD sedan like that, but Ford
fans are going to need something to do burnouts in. I hear they’re pretty good at spinning the tires down there. Of course, Ford hasn’t verified this because they “[do] not publicly discuss future product plans.” That said… It’s pretty clear
that this is going to happen. So far as we’ve heard, foreign markets are only getting the v8 variant. Honestly, it seems strange
that they’re only marketing the least fuel efficient model in locales with such high gas prices. I can only assume that the
market for the Mustang in Europe doesn’t really care about gas that much. It is a sport’s car after all.

The Ford Mustang turns 50 years old this year, and this is the logo that will announce the milestone occasion
on a special line of merchandise. The graphic is the result of an internal design competition, and Ford will
give 50 different companies the license to use it on traditional logo merchandise like shirts and watches,
along with some untraditional items like pinball machines.
Ford is going to begin the celebrations at the New York Auto Show and continue them throughout the year,
but April 17 is the official birthday of the the pony car that just won't quit. You can expect to start seeing
anniversary merchandise in the next couple of weeks.

YUK, YUK!!!!
Very early one morning two birds are sitting at the side of a large puddle of oil. They see a worm on the other
side. So ... the one flies over and the other one swims through-which one gets to the worm first? The one who
swam, of course, because "Da oily boid gets da woim."
There was a man who entered a local paper's pun contest. He sent in ten different puns, in the hope that at
least one of the puns would win. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.
