February Calendar of Events Church & Community Ministries Newsletter Becky Currin, Director 919-690-5120 February 2016 February 1 February February February February Praises: For dedicated volunteers whether they come once or twice a week or once or twice a year! Your God -given gifts & talents are what make CCM a beacon of light in our communities! For financial donations from churches, individuals, & other organizations. CCM could not do what it does without your assistance! And most importantly your prayers which are the backbone of this ministry! Thank you for all you do! We are hosting the NCBM Dental Bus on April 2. The bus will set up at West Oxford Baptist Church. Our target group will be residents from the Oxford Housing Authority apartments. If you are a dental professional, please let me know if you are willing to volunteer your time for a couple of hours that day. We will also need volunteers in several other capacities. Let me know if you’d like to help. February February February February 11 14 15 16 February February February February February February 18 20 22 23 25 29 We’ll participate in the Baptist Children’s Home ‘Food Round-up’ again this year. That focus begins in March & goes through mid-April. More info with be forthcoming. Rebuilding Hope Update from Randolph Wilson: Rebuilding Hope is in the process of acquiring the old Coca Cola Building on Raleigh Road in Henderson. This will be a permanent and more visible location for this ministry. You will soon hear more as we begin raising funds. Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. I don’t know about you but I am greatly disturbed by all the litter I see on the side of the roads. It is our responsibility to serve the Lord by caring for one another & for all creation. We can begin by educating our children & grandchildren against littering. As adults, we can set the example by not littering. Perhaps your church would consider adopting an area of highway to keep clean. Free trash bags & gloves are available from the Department of Transportation. Go a step further & separate recyclables from trash. Place in the recyclables in the appropriate bin at the landfill. I save the aluminum cans & sell them to raise funds for mission trips. Let work together to clean up & keep God’s world beautiful! 6:00 p.m. 12:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 8:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. FIRST Connect WORSHIP MINISTRY MISSIONS February 2016 Weekly Schedule Sunday Schedule: 9:45 a.m. Sunday School (all ages) 11:00 a.m. Morning Worship Service 6:00 p.m. Letter from The Pastor Youth—Dive Wednesday Night Schedule: 6:30 p.m. Adult Bible Study (Choir Room) M & M (Music & Missions) (Age 3 –Grade 5) Youth (Grades 6-12) 7:30 p.m. Adult Choir Practice Mission Schedule: Wednesdays—9:00- 11:30 a.m. Food and Clothing Mission Open Wednesdays and Saturdays—10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Cottage Thrift Shoppe Open First Baptist Church Creedmoor 119 South Main Street PO Box 38 Creedmoor, North Carolina 27522-0038 919-528-2351 www.fbccreedmoor.org Pleasant Grove is offering a unique opportunity which will allow you to raise funds for your mission trip or mission project. They are hosting a craft bazaar on April 9th, 9:00 – 3:00, through which you may rent table space for $20. You can sell handcrafted or home baked items. Register by March 30th. Contact Julie Dolinger at 919-744-9530 to request a registration form & more information. IMB Missionary Faye Cannady sends her thanks for the awesome response to her wish list. She is well supplied with foods but can always use yarn for the ladies Bible study group she is forming. Please keep the Cannadys close in prayer as this is an election year in Uganda. Elections cause volatile situations in third world countries. Because everything ‘shuts down’ during the week of elections, she asked me not to mail any packages until after the election which is in February. Faye asks prayer for the Ugandan Baptist Seminary they are affiliated with as well as their own personal safety. Please pray that God will use the Cannadys to make Him known as He gives them opportunity. Note: Faye’s birthday is March 25 if you would like to send her a card, please get it to me by the first of March. Call the shelter manager, Mangone Silver, at (252)-432-9494 or volunteer coordinator Jane King at (252) 432-9494 for an updated list of needs or an open date that you or your group can take a hot meal for 14 – 16 men. As I think of those who are homeless or are on the brink of homelessness, tears cannot help but form in my eyes. Yet unbidden thoughts come to mind, “Lord, how do people allow themselves to get into such situations?!” God reminds me that is not for me to question but it is mine & your responsibility to reach out & help those who are in need whether it is poor lifestyle choices or life simply throws them a curve. There is something we can do to help if we simply take the time to care. With the recent snow, several pleas came from Community Partners of Hope in Henderson. This nonprofit oversees the operation of the Henderson Vance Homeless Men’s Shelter. The shelter operates November – March & is dependent on volunteers to provide a hot supper for the men who spend the night there. The snow prohibited some meals from reaching the shelter so a plea was extended through Facebook. th 6:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 9:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. 5:30 p.m. Church Office Hours FBC Academy Hours Monday– Friday 9:00a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday—Friday 7:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m. Contact Information Rev. I hope that as you read these thoughts you are snug and warm and happy. So…let’s think about some fun times. We are planning a special Valentine’s gathering with good food and lots of fun. Get your ticket and join Doris and me in the ‘orchestra’ seats. FBCC may be the only place I can afford the best seats. As we look toward 2016, I would like some feedback. During Advent and Christmas, we moved our worship services from 11 AM to 10: 45 AM so that we could give ample time to some very special services. Many of you have given feedback that you like the earlier schedule and some have even suggested considering beginning worship at 10: 30. Of course, we would need to back up the Sunday school beginning time also. Please share with your pastor and deacons your thoughts regarding this. I want to share some thoughts regarding our stewardship needs. During 2015, we didn’t quite meet our budget and I want to make you aware that we have are providing some very good opportunities for people of all ages and my prayer is that we may be able to continue all these ministries and services. As I review our giving units and our tithing income, I am very much aware that our folks give generously. I never know the amount given by individuals but I do know that we have many who are very generous. I just wish to make you aware that our tithes and offerings for 2016 need an increase of approximately ten percent. I never ask members to give ‘til it hurt.’ I ask that we give until we ‘feel good.’ Doris and I are thoroughly appreciating our time with FBCC. Pray that we will deserve this opportunity of serving our Lord with you. This survey lists the various opportunities that First Baptist, Creedmoor has in which you can get involved. However, some of you may have questions about particular areas of ministry and service. Our current motto, “One Among Many Servants,” encourages folks to get involved. I believe that God gives each of us gifts, talents, and opportunities to serve Him. And I believe God leads us into areas about which we feel passionate. I would urge you to ask about any areas that you feel passionate about, and if you have an idea for a ministry area that you don’t see listed, please suggest it to one of our pastors. “One Among Many Servants” can grow and expand as you seek God’s will in your own life, and pursue the opportunities to which you feel Him leading you. Godspeed in 2016! Betsie Forsythe Mary Curl Group Hot Dog Luncheon The Mary Curl Group is having a Hot Dog Luncheon on Sunday, March 6th in the Family Life Center after worship. They will serve baked beans, homemade slaw and chili, all other fixings, chips, and homemade desserts. Donations will be taken to support their mission group. Food & Clothes Closet Need The Food and Clothes Closet is in need of plastic grocery bags and blankets. We thank you all for your continued support of this ministry. By: Kaitlyn King The College/Career Sunday School class will be hosted a Bumper Crop during the month of February. After worship and during the luncheon on February 14th, we will be passing out bags to help fill the shelves of the Food Closet. We will be picking up these bags during the Sunday School hour on Sunday February 28th. We thank you in advance for your support of both this bumper crop and the Food/Clothes Closet. A Reminder for Ministry Leaders In 2016 we are asking our Ministry Leaders to do the following: -All purchases must be pre-approved according the Purchase Order Procedure (effective 12/2013) -All meetings and events need to be on the Church calendar. (You may do this by completing Calendar & Event Planning Form) -All groups using FBCC vehicles must adhere to FBCC Vehicle Use policy. When using a vehicle, the ministry leader is responsible for using an approved driver, obtaining the vehicle keys from the Church Office and FBC Academy By: Amy Holder January marks the midway point for our curriculum and brings us into the long winter months. We are thankful for the seasonal changes and look forward to the teaching opportunities winter presents. We realize all children long for some snow days, however, safety is our constant prayer during the wintry weather. In addition to Spanish and Tumblebus, the Academy welcomed Barbra Laird with Sweet Songs Studio to our program in 2016. She began visiting our infants and toddlers in December and has scheduled all the classrooms every other Monday beginning in January. Mrs. Laird offers personalized classes that use music as the vehicle for whole-child development. We are excited about this new addition to our curriculum and welcome her as a part of our team. During the month of February, we will host our annual Scholastic Book Fair. It will begin on Friday, February 19th and run through Thursday, August 2012 February 25th. There will be an array of reading material offered to all of the children in our programs. Proceeds raised during this event will help to put new books into our classrooms. Exposing children to reading in their earlier years has significant impact on their overall growth and development. Please help support the Academy by visiting our annual Book Fair. Baptist Beauties Luncheon The Baptist Beauties will be hosting a luncheon on Sunday, February 7th following worship to help raise money for their Women of Joy trip in April. Maintenance/IT/Admin Issues If you see a Maintenance issue please let us know. You can either contact the Church office or email [email protected]. Special Thank You’ s To Our Church Family, I would like to thank our Church family for all of your prayers, phone calls, and cards during my recent shoulder surgery. All of my church family is in my thoughts and prayers each day. Thrift Shoppe News Wow, have we been busy. 2015 went out like a lion and the New Year has continued to follow the trend. We are so blessed with wonderful volunteers, gracious customers and a plethora of interesting donations. Don't miss out on our half price sales. Each week we will feature one or two items. Jeans, shoes, men's clothing, children clothing, electronics, kitchen appliances, linens, books, DVD's and pictures just to name a few. You should stop by to see what we are up to. Love, Don Washington Dear Church Family, I want to thank you so much for the prayers and support you gave me in September when my sister passed away and for the surgery I had as well. I appreciate all of the visits I had while I was at Brantwood. You are truly my family and I appreciate all of you. I don’t think that I could have received any more get well cards. Love in Christ, Claire Cash
