Documentary Writing You have a wonderful idea for a documentary and need to turn it into a winning proposal—but how can you write a proposal for a film that hasn’t been made? What elements can you use to effectively sell your story? Documentary filmmakers often use outlines and treatments in their project descriptions to give commissioning editors, foundations, granting agencies and other funders an idea of the film they intend to make. The very earliest people who made film were magicians.” – Francis Ford Coppola Filmmaking Post-Production Planning Post-production planning is one of the most vital, yet overlooked, aspects of filmmaking. This class includes how to name files, where to store media and how to best organize clips on your timeline, especially with regard to sound. Practical demonstrations in class will be done with Final Cut Pro but will apply equally to any general workflow. Production Planning You have a script and you’re ready to shoot. Or are you? This class introduces industry methods to organize and simplify the production planning process: conceiving and organizing a shot list to get the best coverage of your script, breaking your script down, creating a production board to organize the shoot efficiently, and scheduling the beast. 12 photography NEW Photographic Essays This course focuses on the creation of a photographic essay from a series of photographs.
