La Chapelle Musicale intensément !
De Muziekkapel draait op volle toeren!
L’année 2015 fut une année de transition et d’évolution avec l’ouverture des nouvelles infrastructures et
le lancement de la saison MuCH. L’année 2016 est une année de consolidation et de pleine croisière avec
une chapelle dynamique et toujours en essor. Les mois de mars, avril et mai 2016 seront des mois d’activité
intense :
2015 stond in het teken van overdracht en verandering met het betrekken van de nieuwe infrastructuur
en de lancering van het seizoen MuCH. 2016 wordt een jaar van consolidatie en kruissnelheid met een
dynamische Muziekkapel die continu in ontwikkeling is. De maanden maart, april en mei worden intensief:
• En termes de diffusion, aussi bien à travers la saison « MuCH » qu’avec le nombre impressionnant de
concerts « On tour », parmi lesquels:
• Op het vlak van verspreiding, zowel met het seizoen MuCH als met het indrukwekkende aantal concerten
‘On tour’, zoals:
Het Galaconcert van 8 maart in Bozar rond het werk van Lalo.
Le concert de Gala du 8 mars à Bozar autour d’œuvres de Lalo et dont un enregistrement de l’œuvre
concertante sortira au même moment. (coproduction avec Outhere, OPRL & Fondation Bru Zane).
De integrale vioolsonates van Beethoven in Flagey, van 10 tot 12 april, door Lorenzo Gatto en Julien
Libeer, en met de deelname van Augustin Dumay en Maria João Pires op 12 april.
L’intégrale des sonates de violon de Beethoven données à Flagey du 10 au 12 avril par Lorenzo Gatto et
Julien Libeer et la complicité d’Augustin Dumay et Maria João Pires le 12 avril.
Of nog een driedaagse aanwezigheid van de Kapel in de Fondation Louis Vuitton, van 22 tot 24 april, met
masterclasses en concerten door José van Dam en jonge zangers.
Ou encore 3 jours de présence de la Chapelle à la Fondation Louis Vuitton à Paris, du 22 au 24 avril, avec
des masterclasses et concerts de José van Dam et de jeunes chanteurs.
• Op pedagogisch vlak, MuCH open Labs van onze meesters in residentie en twee gasten: de befaamde
mezzosopraan Sophie Koch en altviolist Michael Gieler.
• En termes pédagogiques, des MuCH open Labs de nos Maîtres en résidence et de deux invités : la célèbre
Mezzo-Soprano Sophie Koch et l’altiste Michael Gieler.
Plus que jamais, la Chapelle poursuit ses efforts pour apporter aux jeunes talents transmission et aide à la
diffusion. En cette année de Concours Reine Elisabeth de piano, la Chapelle Musicale accueille comme à
chaque édition instrumentale, la mise en loge des finalistes, à la fin du mois de mai.
Saison 16-17 - Un nouveau maître en résidence à la Chapelle Musicale, Louis Lortie : Nous sommes
heureux d’annoncer l’arrivée du pianiste canadien Louis Lortie, déjà proche de la Chapelle Musicale depuis
une dizaine d’années et qui a, par ailleurs, une grande expérience en tant que pédagogue. Il sera assisté
dans cette nouvelle position par un grand professeur, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, membre de la Hochschule de
Vienne. Maria João Pires, après 4 années de présence à la Chapelle Musicale, quittera sa fonction de maître
en résidence en juin 2016. Des liens seront évidemment maintenus avec cette grande artiste dans les années
à venir à travers les projets Equinox et Partitura, qu’elle a initiés pendant sa résidence à la Chapelle. Dans la
volonté de Louis Lortie d’inviter des guests masters afin d’apporter d’autres éclairages aux jeunes pianistes,
nous pouvons déjà annoncer notamment la venue de Piotr Anderscewski pour une masterclass lors de la
saison 2016-2017.
Meer dan ooit blijft de Kapel zich inzetten om jonge talenten overdracht en steun bij de verspreiding
bij te brengen. Dit jaar staat de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd in het teken van de piano en, zoals bij elke
instrumentale editie, onthaalt de Muziekkapel de finalisten in de loop van de maand mei.
Seizoen 16-17 – Een nieuwe meester in residentie aan de Muziekkapel, Louis Lortie: Het verheugt ons
bijzonder om de komst aan te kondigen van de Canadese pianist Louis Lortie, die reeds een tiental jaar nauw
samenwerkt met de Muziekkapel en bovendien beschikt over ruime ervaring als pedagoog. Hij wordt in deze
nieuwe functie bijgestaan door een vooraanstaand docent, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, lid van de Hochschule van
Wenen. Maria João Pires legt in juni 2016 haar functie van meester in residentie neer, na een aanwezigheid
van vier jaar op de Muziekkapel. We zullen in de toekomst uiteraard contacten onderhouden met deze
gerenommeerde artieste, via de projecten Equinox en Partitura, die ze tijdens haar residentie hier heeft
opgestart. In het kader van de wens van Louis Lortie om gastmeesters uit te nodigen om de jonge pianisten
nieuwe visies bij te brengen, kunnen wij nu reeds de komst aankondigen van Piotr Anderszewski, voor een
masterclass tijdens het seizoen 2016-2017.

The Music Chapel – intensely!
The year 2015 was a transition year, with the inauguration of new infrastructures and the affirmation of
new ambitions, not least the launch the MuCH season. The year 2016 is a year of consolidation, while still
continuing to grow. March, April and May 2016 will be very busy months:
• In terms of public appearances, both thanks to the MuCH season and the impressive number of concerts
“On tour”. Among others, let’s mention:
The Gala Concert on 8 March at Bozar, an event that will turn the spotlight on Edouard Lalo: together with
several of its partners (Outhere, the OPRL and the Fondation Bru Zane), the Music Chapel is releasing the
composer’s entire concertante works.
The entire Beethoven sonatas performed at Flagey from 10 to 12 April by Lorenzo Gatto and Julien Libeer,
and with the complicity of Augustin Dumay and Maria João Pires on 12 April.
Or the presence of the Chapel at the Louis Vuitton Foundation from 22 to 24 April with master classes and
concerts by José van Dam and young singers.
More than ever, the Chapel is pursuing its efforts to support as widely as possible our young talents in
terms of knowledge transmission and in terms of public appearances. Also, this year, the Queen Elisabeth
Competition will be devoted to Piano and, as for each instrumental edition, the twelve finalists will be
housed at the Chapel in the second half of May.
Season 2016–17 – A new master in residence at the Music Chapel, Louis Lortie: We are pleased to announce
the arrival of a new master in residence, Canadian pianist Louis Lortie, who has been a close partner of the
Music Chapel for about a decade already due to his frequent presence at concerts and in master classes and
who, moreover, has gained extensive teaching experience over the years. Louis Lortie will be assisted in this
new position by a great professor, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, a member of the Vienna Hochschule. After four
years at the Music Chapel, Maria João Pires will leave her position of master in residence in June 2016. We
will of course remain in close contact with this great artist in the coming years through the Equinox choirs
and the Partitura program, two projects which she inaugurated during her residency at the Music Chapel.
We can already announce the presence of Guest Master Piotr Anderscewski for a master class during the
2016-17 season.

“It is with great joy that I have just accepted to take charge of the piano section of the Music Chapel
from September 2016. I profoundly admire the tireless devotion of this institution to help develop
a new generation of musicians thanks to leading performer-professors and an extremely devoted
administrative team.
I hope to help open up gifted young musicians to the rich world of possible interpretations, young
musicians who must learn this demanding task of the modern world: to continue the in-depth
exploration of their art with the utmost interiority in a space whose temptations are often far
removed from the genuine objectives of an artistic quest at the service of the great composers.
I particularly look forward to bringing these young artists in contact with an admirable associate
professor, Avo Kouyoumdjian, a member of the Vienna Hochschule who will assist me in my
functions, and a myriad of professors who will visit us for the master classes: musicians from all
horizons and a range of backgrounds, from baroque to contemporary music.”

Lors des rendez-vous MuCH Open Lab, le public est invité à découvrir le laboratoire de la
Chapelle Musicale, et à assister au développement des musiciens en résidence, à la source
même de leur apprentissage. Avec des maîtres en résidence, ou invités, ces MuCH Open
Labs sont des moments de transmission et de partage.
Op de MuCH Open Lab-ontmoetingen kan het publiek kennismaken met het laboratorium
van de Muziekkapel en de ontwikkeling van de muzikanten in residentie, aan de bron van
hun leerproces. Met de meesters in residentie, of genodigden zijn deze MuCH open labs
momenten om ervaringen door te geven en te delen.
La transmission de la maestria veut dire : partager la connaissance acquise à travers
l’expérience. Une approche du passé offre une mesure pour la tradition. S’affranchir du
poids de la tradition pour libérer « sa propre musique ».
Sophie Koch is a French mezzo-soprano : She studied at the Paris Conservatory with the
great singer Jane Berbié. She graduated with a First Prize and then won the top prize in
the ‘s Hertogenbosch Competition. She has a very large repertory, not only opera, but also
concert and oratorio performances, and excels in travesti roles.
Muzikaal vakmanschap overdragen betekent: het delen van kennis verworven door
ervaring. Zich richten op het verleden biedt een maatstaf voor traditie. De druk van traditie
van zich afschudden om ‘de eigen muziek’ tot haar recht te laten komen.

Formé à la Monnaie, le quatuor entretient une affinité particulière avec l’opéra. Il doit son
nom à la célèbre diva Maria Malibran qui, par sa vie passionnée et son dévouement à la
musique, est pour le quatuor une source d’inspiration continuelle. Dans le choix de leurs
programmes, les membres du quatuor s’intéressent notamment aux pièces de compositeurs d’opéra tels que Verdi et Puccini ; et, en musique contemporaine, aux compositeurs
d’opéra de Belgique et d’ailleurs, notamment Philippe Boesmans, Benoît Mernier et Pascal Dusapin. Ils s’attachent à explorer en profondeur le répertoire pour voix et quatuor à
cordes, avec des œuvres de Respighi, de Chausson et de Schönberg, et en passant commande d’une nouvelle pièce pour soprano et quatuor à cordes. Met een voorgeschiedenis
die in de Munt ligt, heeft het Malibran Quartet een natuurlijke affiniteit met opera. De
naam van het ensemble verwijst naar de legendarische opera-diva Maria Malibran, die
door haar passionele leven in het teken van de muziek een blijvende inspiratiebron vormt.
In de programma’s van het kwartet komen geregeld operacomponisten als Verdi en Puccini aan bod, naast hedendaagse componisten als Philippe Boesmans, Benoît Mernier en
Pascal Dusapin, die door hun creaties een vooraanstaande plaats innemen in het huidige
operalandschap. Het kwartet wil ook het repertoire voor strijkkwartet en solostem uitdiepen, met werken van Respighi, Schönberg… en schreef een compositieopdracht uit voor
sopraan en strijkkwartet.

Depuis quelques années, la Chapelle Musicale a développé un partenariat avec l’académie du
Royal Koncertgebouw Orchestra d’Amsterdam, de façon à permettre aux musiciens des deux
institutions de développer de nouvelles expériences, et de nouveaux projets de musique
de chambre. L’Orchestre royal du Concertgebouw (Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest) met un
point d’honneur à choyer les jeunes talents musicaux. En effet, depuis 2003, il dispose d’une
académie, l’Orkestacademie, qui permet aux jeunes musiciens talentueux de suivre un cours
individuel accompagné auprès de l’Orchestre royal du Concertgebouw. Le cours académique
de l’Orchestre royal du Concertgebouw s’étend sur une saison.
Het koesteren van jong muzikaal talent staat hoog in het vaandel van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. Zo heeft het orkest sinds 2003 een Orkestacademie. Deze biedt begaafde
jonge musici de mogelijkheid een individueel begeleide orkestrale leergang te volgen bij het
Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. De academieleergang van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest beslaat één seizoen. Bovendien krijgt de academist verschillende workshops en trainingen aangeboden, onder meer Alexandertechniek, Feldenkrais Methode, Yoga, proefspel-,
mentale en educatietraining. De Academie van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest wordt
volledig mogelijk gemaakt dankzij de Stichting Donateurs van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, alsmede de Vereniging Vrienden in België van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest.

Il y a longtemps que je ressens une attirance naturelle, presque physique, pour les musiques
du Sud et plus particulièrement pour le tango, celui d’aujourd’hui, plus inventif et multiforme que jamais. Il m’a toujours paru évident, un peu à l’image de “l’arbre qui marche” se
déplaçant grâce à ses racines pour mieux trouver le soleil et le terreau le plus favorable à
sa croissance, qu’un artiste n’est jamais exclusivement influencé ou inspiré par les moyens
d’expressions liés à sa région ou à son pays d’origine. Plus que jamais, mes racines musicales
ont tendance à migrer pour s’ancrer au coeur des différentes ramifications stylistiques de ce
monde musical argentin. Mes rencontres avec quelques-uns des musiciens et compositeurs
les plus fameux et les plus représentatifs de cette musique m’ont amené à la création de ce
projet. L’association des cordes et du bandoneon, mélange sonore étonnant et fascinant,
n’est autre que l’un des éléments fondateurs du tango, intrinsèquement lié à son histoire.

A l’initiative du Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, La Belle Saison – Concert halls œuvre en
réseau et fédère les théâtres et les salles de concerts qui par leur qualité acoustique, leur
jauge adaptée et leur environnement servent la musique de chambre dans les meilleures
conditions. Chaque saison, le réseau ainsi constitué se donne comme mission d’initier, puis
de produire et de diffuser dans ses lieux un certain nombre de programmes de musique
de chambre de haut niveau. La Belle Saison – Concert halls programme et produit des
musiciens prestigieux, régulièrement associés aux talents émergents repérés en France et à
l’international. Les artistes s’investissent collectivement dans la programmation de saisons
musicales innovantes, mutualisées, inscrites dans la durée et conjuguées à des activités de
médiation culturelle pour les territoires concernés dans le cadre de résidences. L’ambition
est de donner du temps aux artistes qui eux-mêmes donnent du temps au public, le temps
de la pédagogie, de la rencontre et de la découverte.

F. J. Haydn: Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze
Dans son œuvre écrite à l’origine pour orchestre, Haydn désirait traduire les ultimes paroles du Christ en croix et destinait cette partition à accompagner une partie des cérémonies du Vendredi saint. Miguel da Silva et les artistes en résidence à la Chapelle Musicale offrent une magnifique version pour quatuor à cordes du chef-d’œuvre de Joseph
Haydn. Avec rigueur et pureté ces musiciens proposent une interprétation émouvante de
cette œuvre fragmentée par un récitant. Michel Serres, de sa voix chaleureuse, porte un
commentaire de méditations et de réflexions soumis à chacun d’entre nous. Professeur à
Stanford University, membre de l’Académie française, Michel Serres est l’auteur de très
nombreux essais philosophiques et d’histoire des sciences, dont la série des Hermès (éd.
de Minuit), Rameaux et récits d’humanisme (éd. Le Pommier). Il propose une vision du
monde ouverte et optimiste, fondée sur une connaissance des humanités et des sciences.
Le principe de cette œuvre est, pour chaque séquence, d’énoncer la parole du Christ et d’y
ajouter ce qui est nommé “paroles des hommes”, à savoir des méditations qui dépassent
le temps historique, le Golgotha, pour s’étendre à la généralité humaine, particulièrement
en notre siècle.

rondreizend traject voor op 16 partnerpodia met nagenoeg 15 programma’s, voor een
zestigtal concerten en evenveel artiesten.

who will take over the second violin position with immediate effect. In a musical chairs
scenario, Gregor Sigl will assume the viola position in the quartet.

Equinox, Children’s Choirs
Le projet Equinox se consacre à la création et au développement de chorales d’enfants.
L’objectif, simple, est de partager l’excellence artistique de la Chapelle Musicale, avec des
publics qui n’y ont pas naturellement accès, un des objectifs majeurs de l’axe Durability développé par la Chapelle Musicale, intégrant projets sociaux, écologiques, etc. Het project
‘Equinox’ legt zich toe op de oprichting en de verdere uitbouw van kinderkoren. Het doel
is eenvoudig, namelijk de artistieke uitmuntendheid van de Muziekkapel – die te danken
is aan haar meesters en haar jonge musici – delen met een publiek dat er niet als vanzelf
toegang toe heeft.

The Van Baerle Trio was founded in 2004 by pianist. The name of the trio refers to the
street where it all started: the Van Baerle street in Amsterdam. The three musicians met
there during their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, at a stone’s throw from the
Concertgebouw, which they consider as their musical home. The Van Baerle Trio tours
extensively throughout Europe and is a regular guest on radio and television, both in Holland and abroad. Among its appearances at France Musique was the radio programme
“Génération... Jeunes Interprètes” of Gaëlle Le Gallic. Upcoming performances of the trio
include the Bergen Festival, Rheingau Festival and Philharmonie Essen.

This Item has become an important component on today’s opera house schedules. A
diversity of compositions from the field of opera, musical, music theatre, instrumental
theatre, or “sound installation” has emerged in recent years. But what comprises good
theatrical material? How does one write and compose for young ears with little theater
experience, how does one stage pieces for a young audience and how to play for young
people? The workshop will give an insight into the creation and production processes,
specifically intending to offer impulses for composing music and texts/libretto, for creating
roles, as well as impulses for the realization of staging ideas.
Kamermuziek thuis rond de piano : Classic | Jazz: piano solo, duo, trio en... drink. In een
gemoedelijke sfeer brengen jonge en ervaren muzikanten klassiek of jazz met piano
solo, duo, trio... telkens in een andere bezetting. Het wordt een unieke ervaring voor de
luisteraar, een intieme ontmoeting met muzikaal toptalent en gezellig napraten na het
concert met een glaasje.

In the midst of the performance, Tamino leaves the stage and starts his quest for a lost love
throughout four centuries of music and all over Europe. Thanks to the video, the audience
follows him from one city to another, guided only by the music. Tamino’s journey brings
together extracts by Britten, Lambert, Bellini, Stravinsky and Handel as well contemporary
pieces commissioned to composers Daan Janssens and Vasco Mendonça, which highlight
the vitality of the opera genre in Europe today.

convie à six nouveaux rendez-vous musicaux. Chaque concert se présente comme
un voyage imaginaire au cœur des partitions conservées dans notre institution. Des
interprètes talentueux et passionnés vous invitent à la découverte des trésors musicaux,
connus et moins connus, issus de leur répertoire. N’hésitez pas à les rejoindre en nos murs
pour savourer ces moments d’exception…
Nativitas est une ASBL qui a pour but d’aider les personnes en situation précaire ou isolées
en leur ouvrant les portes d’une maison accueillante située en plein cœur des Marolles,
“La Bicoque”. Parallèlement à l’aide matérielle qu’elle leur apporte, NATIVITAS a également
pour objectif d’encourager la culture en offrant l’accès à des activités culturelles et
artistiques aux personnes les plus démunies. C’est dans ce cadre que la Chapelle Musicale
désire collaborer avec l’ASBL Nativitas, de façon à offrir des concerts de haute qualité à «
La Bicoque » même, en envoyant des solistes en résidence et le support logistique adapté
à l’organisation de ces concerts atypiques. L’objectif, simple, est de partager l’excellence
artistique de la Chapelle Musicale, due à ses maîtres et à ses jeunes musiciens, avec des
publics qui n’y ont pas naturellement accès. La musique est une valeur contribuant à un
certain bien-vivre, et on ne peut que souhaiter qu’elle soit accessible à tous et toutes. Le
bénéfice est mutuel, à la fois pour le public, mais aussi pour l’artiste, que le contact avec
les publics différents enrichit de façon considérable. En effet le véritable artiste a aussi une

De Koninklijke Bibliotheek van België nodigt u uit voor zes muzikale ontmoetingen
tijdens haar seizoen middagconcerten 2015-2016. Elk concert is een denkbeeldige reis
naar het hart van partituren die in onze instelling worden bewaard. Getalenteerde en
gepassioneerde muzikanten nemen ons op sleeptouw met bekende en onbekende
muzikale schatten uit hun repertoire en nodigen u uit om samen met ons te genieten van
deze bijzondere momenten…
Dit seizoen zet de Muziekkapel haar pijler ‘Duurzaamheid’ in de kijker, door verscheidene
maatschappelijke projecten op te nemen in haar artistieke opleidingsprogramma.
